New Washington Post / ABC Poll Puts Obama 3 Points Ahead of Romney
A Washington Post /ABC poll puts President Obama three points ahead of challenger Mitt Romney in the presidential race. This is one of the first polls
after the debate to place Obama solidly in the lead. Likely voters in the new poll split 49 percent for Obama to 46 percent for Romney, which more closely resembles polling prior to the debate than after.
Although most respondents thought Romney won the first debate, they also said that Romney’s performance did not change their view of the president.
However, many of those polled said they did view Romney more positively after the debate. The number of people who said they viewed Romney “very enthusiastically” skyrocketed after last week’s debate.
The poll also demonstrates that most voters believe that Obama is on the side of the middle class. According to the poll, 68 percent think he “favors the middle class,” while only 31 percent said the same for Romney. In fact, 58 percent said Romney “favors the wealthy.” In addition, 48 percent of those polled said Obama would better handle the company, compared to only 44 percent who chose Romney.
President Obama is also ahead on the issue of Medicare (53-38), health care (49-43), taxes (49-44) and international affairs (50-40).
Although President Obama has yet to make up ground for the first debate he lost, he has begun to recover. This puts even more pressure on President Obama to perform well in Tuesday’s debate. If he defeats Romney, he could pull away in the polls, but if he loses -again – people will begin to sense defeat in the air.
Will you watch tomorrow’s debate? Any predictions?
