MSNBC’s Chris Matthews Crushes RNC Chair Over Romney’s Birther Comment, Playing Race Card

On Monday’s Morning Joe, MSNBC’s  Chris Matthews and RNC chair Reince Priebus argued over whether Mitt Romney and his fellow Republicans were guilty of playing the race card. Priebus said Democrats were running a negative campaign, and that’s when Matthews let loose on him. Matthews disagreed with Priebus, pointing out Mitt Romney’s recent birther joke, and a Republican primary campaign where at least one candidate referenced Obama as the “Food Stamp President.”

“It is an embarrassment to your party to play that card,” said Matthews, accusing Republicans of playing the race card. Matthews also pointed out Romney’s ad about Obama removing the work requirement in welfare to work programs, a claim which has been debunked by several newspapers.

Mika Brzezinski said Romney’s was just “awkward joker,” while Priebus said it was just a “dumb issue” and a “distraction.” But Matthews is not new to the game of politics, and knows that these sorts of comments are dog whistles.

Matthews grew most angry when Priebus attempted to paint Obama as European in his vision for America. When pressured, Priebus said that a good example of Obama’s European influence is Obamacare, but then Matthews pointed out that several American presidents had tried to overhaul our health care  system, and none of them were derided as European, or foreign, because of it. That’s when Priebus gave up the debate, saying, “I’m not going to get into a shouting match with Chris, so..” and Matthews snapped back, “that’s because you’re losing.”

“I’m not going to get into a shouting match with Chris, so,” said Priebus, later calling his accusations “garbage.”

Good morning. I am a Vietnam Veteran and a great fan of MSNBC. I watch all of the shows. I stopped watching “Morning Joe” with Joe Scarsborough sometime ago. He is a rude individual and always interrupts Mika.
I was browsing through the channels yesterday and saw Christ Matthews was a guest on the show. I missed most of the conversation yesterday between Chris and RNC Chairman Reince Priebus. The portion I did see, Chris brought it home to Priebus regarding President Obama’s policies. I cannot believe many people in the Republican Party are United States Citizens. They are a group of liars and cannot be trusted. Mitt Romney’s lies is sending a bad example to the children here in America. Ruben

The last election was the most exciting but this one seems to be the most important. I wish I could find a group of Pan-African thinking people because in this election we will see if Americans will be blinded by hate. I am hopeful that if this country commits suicide by electing rmoney there could be a network of people not distracted by lies of white supremacy ready and willing to get to work re-building a middle class. I am only 45 but I have never seen so much hate on display at such a high level, I guess I should be great full.

I’m a faithful watcher of most of the MSNBS shows. And while everyone says that the campaign ads are not true, no one has come out and called them blatant”lies”, which they are. no one calls Romney is a lier, which he is. No one, not even President Obama!!

I do watch MSNBC Morning Joe show sometime but as Ruben previously said he’s rude and always is interrupting Mika. I’m a Vietnam Veterans also but MSNBC needed a strong black person to co-host that show with Joe because he dominate all is guest black or white unless it’s Rev. Sharpton who call it like it is and although everyone know the republican especially Romney and is crew is lying everyone is seem to be afraid to call them like it is even the main stream media. Where is Warren Ballentine he need a TV show.

BRAVA to Mr. Matthews for being one of the FEW white men willing to “tell it like it is”…..
    ONE OF THE FEW!!!!

We all know what’s going on, and unlike the Jews, they’ll tell us to “GET OVER OUR HOLOCAUST”…
I bet they would never tell one of their Jewish friends that they golf with “Oh the Holocaust never happened”, or “get over it”….
but we’s n****z…so it’s ok to insult our sensibilities….and Common sense.

Kudo’s to Chris Matthews for calling out Reince Prebius and not backing down until he had rubbed the RNC Chairman’s nose in the filth of the RNC campaign.

    CHRIS MATTHEWS FOR PRESIDENT!

It’s truly sad, to see some white Americans continue to play sick games blaming Obama for the country destruction. They know for d**n sure for many generations white are the only men that was in full control. The detriment of this country did not happen 4 years ago, why can’t these people attempt to face reality
