MSNBC Contributor Bemoans All Those “Crazy Crackers on the Right”

MSNBC Contributor Karen Finney landed herself in a bit of hot water on Tuesday when, during a conversation about the future of the Republican Party, Karen Finneyshe pointed to “those crazy crackers on the right” and their use of  ”hateful language” as being the reason why conservatives can’t evolve on issues such as immigration.

Finney pointed out that the last time the Republican Party took on immigration reform, it ended up alienating more Hispanic voters than it brought in.

“We had evangelical Latinos wanting to meet with Howard Dean at the DNC,” said Finney, who worked at the Democratic National Committee. Finney was noting the shift which drove Latinos into the Democratic Party.

“We saw in droves the Latino community moving over to the Democratic Party largely because of the tone,” Finney continued. “Even Republicans in the Republican Party who were Latino just disgusted with the tone.”

“Those crazy crackers on the right, if they start with their very hateful language, that is going to kill them in the same way that they learned, at their little retreat, let’s not talk about r*pe,” Finney concluded.

Finney apologized for her comments on Twitter, saying “crackers” was meant to refer to “crack pots”, and that she never intended the comments as racial. But many of Twitter held her to account, noting that the term “cracker” has always been used as a racist term, and can’t be construed any other way.

I’m sorry that you don’t understand when you are being played!

White’s insulting White’s to show blacks they are on our side.
    “she is passing”

They sure don’t have to do much to win us over!

My concern is by the time we find out how bad we’ve been screwed it will be to late.

Blacks are such Lemmings, we hear something on NBC and think it’s all true They have an agenda and it does not include us, Just like Obama is being played like a puppet ( he has no political skills, no managerial skills, he and Jarrett are in so deep and so are we for believing every positive thing and condemning anything that is negative.

” If you have no critic’s , you’ll likely have no success”
    Malcolm X

The President is s******g things up like you have no idea, you had better start checking things out and stop believing the major media!

My people please, Know Our History. “Cracker” When our enslaved Ancestors were forced to work on the kidnappers’ fields, the bully (overseer) would come around on a horse with a whip. If he felt you were working too slow, not producing enough, or for no reason at all, he would raise that whip and crack you with it. Rules to keep you down, bending over. The kidnappers had rules that made no sense, the first one being, he enslaved another human being. He became (probably, already was)insane, deranged, when he raised the whip to hit you, it would make a cracking noise. When the Ancestors saw the bully coming, they would pass the word, the “cracker” is coming.
Today, we still have crackers, only they drive around in city, state, government cars, chauffeured in limos and in police cars. Officials that pass laws, rules that made no sense, other than to keep us down. That is what’s racist. Unlike the word n****r, cracker is not racist, it is a fact. Why should she be fired.?!
Often your boss is a cracker, has rules that make no sense, other than to keep you down. Sadly, we have adopted slave mentality in raising our children. We whip them. “ Go out and get me a big switch” (a whip) we use a rope, ironing cord. We brag about how we tore up that little a**.
We have become the bully, the big person standing over a child beating him. We teach our children violence, the way to solve a problem is to hit, (fight). Pick up a bigger whip, a gun.
Some of us, HONESTLY believe we cannot get thru to our children unless we beat them. Before we were enslaved, we talked to our children with love, explained the consequences, reasoned. We did not beat our children as the “slave master” beat our Ancestors.

Most of these comments are just sad to see. Rejoicing in, and encouraging, hateful language/behavior directed at a group by which you have been oppressed is not a positive path to change.

Was her comment pretty mild? Yup. What offended me about it was the unprofessionalism of her behavior, rather than the specific term “cracker.” But these responses posted here…how is that type of reaction going to promote positive change?
