Detroit Mayor Echoes Republicans, Says Workers Think They are “Entitled” to a Job
In an interview with CNN, Detroit Mayor Bing sounded more like a Republican than a Democrat when discussing his cash strapped
city. Bing’s comments were directed at city workers, who he feels have unreal expectations.
“We are in an environment
, I think, of entitlement, we’ve got a lot of people who are city workers, who for years and years, 20, 30 years, think they are entitled to a job and all that comes with it,” Bing said.
He then added, “Nobody wants to go backwards, but in order for us to move this city forward we’re going to have to take a step or two backwards — and then, I think, all of us have to participate in the pain that’ s upon us right now.”
Bing went on to say that there is only one man in this country who has a harder job than him.
“(My job is) to make the hard decision so this city would have a future, but it’s probably the second most difficult job in this country behind the president,” he said.

The REPUBLICANS have been claiming that …”we cannot tax the wealthy because they are JOB CREATORS” — for like 15 – 20 years now. Well…WHERE ARE THE JOBS ????
A lot of them were shipped overseas…via companies like BAIN CAPITAL (Romney’s Biz). Under BUSH we lost thousands of manufacturing jobs.
It is just outrageous and silly to try to blame workers — who have children to feed and bills to pay — for wanting decent jobs. There are some REPUBLICANS who want to get rid of the minimum wage…and thus, corporations can pay what they want…and keep folks enslaved to sorry jobs, debt, poor housing, etc.
The workers at WAL-MART are trying to WAKE US UP.
I am sure that the Mayor is correct, in some cases. I worked in the area for over ten years and I remember the attitudes.
He’s right. No one’s entitled to a job. People need to break out of their enslaved/socialist/ aka- take care of me mentality in order for things to get better.
People should begin pulling their resources together to get into businesses for themselves.
While the republicans are nothing but misplaced hate mongers, it would be a mistake to believe that democrats are your friends.
Bing sounds not so much like a Republican but more like a modern day Dixiecrat(today’s so-called blue dogs, or in the 1980′s “boll weevils”).
I often wonder if people are stuck in time? The world is changing and the way in which we approach it can make all the difference in our survival. Making concessions in hard times is a way of life. If the financial situation in your household changed for the worse, would you continue to spend as usual and not make the necessary adjustments to recover and eventually thrive again? New time, new mind. The Mayor of Detroit has a huge task ahead of him. I hope he, and the city government can find some common ground. If not, the entire city pays the price.
The truth about Detroit from an ex-Detroiter. Regardless of what they say in the news or the media might have you believe. Kwame Kilpatrick was a good a** Mayor. So the eff what if he was banging some assistant. (she was fine, lol) the only person who should have had a problem with that was his wife. And they are still married together. The whole Kwame mess started with 2 facts that the rest of Michigan didn’t like. He was a young, charismatic, black man with an education and a successful name behind him. During Kwame’s tenure. Not only did we host the Superbowel bringing in millions. We built 3 casino’s, convinced GM to keep its headquaters in Detroit and brought in the money from outside State businesses. Plus Kwame didn’t have the anti-racist legacy of Coleman Young to live up too. So, he could easily deal with folks in the Burbs as well as the City. The target on Detroit’s back has been for the last 20 years control of the State’s water supply. If you don’t know Michigan has the largest amount of fresh clean water of any State in the mid-west and on the Planet outside of Africa. Guess who controls the Water treatment plant and the supply. Got it? Detroit. The game is checkers not chess. By getting rid of Kwame they knew it was only a matter of time before Detroiter’s turned to someone who wouldn’t ever have had a chance during the Coleman Young era. A man like Dave Bing who already thinks like a typical Republican but we all know no way in Heck can a Republican get elected in Detroit. So the powers that be gave us a man they can control. Has Bing brought one business to the city like Kwame did? No. Has he re-vamped and cleaned up the Police and Fire Depts? No. Has he started any kind of amnesty program or work programs to clean up the neighborhoods that were not already in place struggling when he got the office? No. This is about Lansing wanting control and ultimately the money from owning the Water Supply and Treatment. The want to sell the water under our feet to other States for the highest bidder, make themselves rich and tax people in Detroint more money for the very water that is theirs. So, some people are whining about contracts that Kwame gave to family and friends. So what? Every politician does that. It’s only wrong when they don’t do what they are paid to do. You haven’t heard one story about someone getting a No-bid contract and not doing the job. So when you add it up. Even though he was good for the city as a whole. Because of personal issues and the hunt by people in Lansing to bring a Black Man down doing the same things they all do. You now have this step n fetch kneegrow talking about people being entitled to a job. Fool. Let me explain something to you Bing. You are a City Worker too idiot. Let’s see you not get re-elected and then whine about not having a job. It’s always these types of clowns who want everyone else to work for pennies except them and their friends. Do you think you are going to find someone for minimum wage to investigate rape, murder and homicide? Do you think someone who passed a truck or bus driving test is going to pick up a bunch of wild public school kids everyday for 20 years, sober, for 5.00 dollars an hour? Do you think after the Michigan winter tears potholes the size of an elephant in the roads some fool is going to get out there risking his life fixing it for a bowel of hot soup and an old Army blankett? He is right about Detroit never coming back. But like most buffer kneegrows he will never say why. These men who run the corporation of the United States loved slavery. That is what built this country. Not rolling up your sleeves or pulling up some imaginary bootstraps. Slavery. Do you notice ever since Jim Crow ended 46 years ago the manufacturing base has been in decline to a point where its non existant. But just here in the US. Those jobs still exist. But they would rather some slave in China, Africa of South America who they don’t have to pay a living wage to or give health care works at that job. Remind you of anything? So the product isn’t cheaper, the cost to make it isn’t cheaper. Cars cost more than ever. The bosses make more than ever because they gutted the labor cost. So the trick question was how long could they keep doing this. 20, 30, 40, 50 years before no one has a job to afford their products and no one pays taxes for city employee’s. Well Detroit gives you the answer. It reminds me of the time a Police Officer always use to stop me for bs because I lived close to a strip club. Going to work get stopped. Going to McDonald’s get stopped. Going over my mother’s house to shovel her snow, get stopped. He always had some lame excuse other than I was a Black Man. The last time I laughed at him and told him good-bye and I was moving out of the City for good. No more 200 dollar tickets for whatever he felt like. You would think he would be happy getting rid of such a terrible driver as me obviously. He had this look of sadness because he knew the more people like me who woke up and left meant no more money for him. That was the point of stopping me. I was the new tax base for Detroit and he knew it. If they couldn’t get you with property taxes. They made sure they got most of us with fees and tickets to pay their salaries. No people no money. That is the moral for Detroit. Basically. It wasn’t crime, Kwame, lack of education that brought the City down. It was the fact that we live in a time where certain selfish people decided they wanted to make all the money in the world by re-instating slavery somewhere else and the equation couldn’t sustain itself for 50 years. Without people making money to buy products and give you a tax base you will have no city, no government and no job. Those of us who didn’t work directly for the auto industry also realized despite our education we were in this together with them. My money alone can’t fix schools, pay teacher salaries or keep the street lights on. Why should I or any sane person stay there if there is no infra-structure which is a direct result of citizen’s paying, working and living long term in any location? Do you ever notice how quick our government is to send drones at a million dollars a pop to blow up some goat herders somewhere. But whenever worker soladarity comes up across the globe the puppets they put in place to rape, kill, murder and keep those people in abject poverty/slavery never comes up. What is the point of being the smartest slave on the slave ship? No answer from the Bings of the world? So the same Mr. Charley that has an entire factory working for what they used to pay 1 worker for here in the US. What’s stopping him from doing it to skilled labor as well? Nothing. Everytime some politician says go to school so you can get those good jobs sounding like someone’s grandmother from the 50′s. Knowing full well the equation is like him whistling Dixie out of his b**t. The entire US will be full of food workers, care takers for the elderly and a few city workers and service industry people until we change the paradigm globally we are all looking at poverty for the rest of our lives. Don’t worry they will keep a few middle class people just to keep you broke m**o’s in check hoping that if you kiss enough a** they will let you in the club one day before you drop dead before collecting your Social Security at 72 when they raise the age. Or you might win the poor people’s tax aka the Lottery. Only a buffer kneegrow would say an American feels they are entitled to eat, own a home, pay for school, get married or anything else that comes with a danggone job. You know what normal people call that. Having a good life that you can be proud of and pass something down to your children. What ever happened to if you want to work you should be able to find a job? No more eh? Now the King gets to point to a peasant in the crowd and say you deserve the privilage of cleaning my toilet today scum. Pat yourself on the back. If Kwame was to run again. If vote him in a heartbeat. That’s not saying Kwame was great but he was better for Detroit than Bing.
@Sir Graves, you’re on point with everything said- except education. Lack of education for the masses or education viewed as a privilege makes it easy to enslave the masses.
People who know better always know that they have nothing to lose if they fight back.
