A Superstitious Obama Plays Basketball on Election Day

Mitt Romney will be campaigning today, but not President Obama. He will be playing basketball today, as he does every election day. One of the rituals President Obama has developed is playing basketball on election day, no matter what.

Former White House spokesman Robert Gibbs told The Washington Post that Obama sent an e-mail to his former personal aide, Reggie Love, to begin organizing his regular pickup basketball game in Chicago for Tuesday.

No Drama Obama.

“We made the mistake of not playing basketball once,” Gibbs said. “We won’t make that mistake again.”

According to those close to Obama, the one time Obama didn’t play basketball on an  election day was the same day he was defeated by  Hillary Clinton in the New Hampshire primaries.
Of course, conservative blogs are already going on about how it’s not presidential to play ball on election day… blah, blah, blah. But anyone who has ever followed elections closely knows that many staffers and politicians have election day rituals. Some male staffers refuse to shave, while others have lucky socks, or even keepsakes.
We’ll only know whether the election ritual works after all the votes are counted. We’ll know soon enough.
