“The Drug War is a Holocaust Against All Americans”: Danny Glover in Heavy New Documentary

by Dr. Boyce Watkins, KultureKritic.com

“The House We Live In” is a new documentary about the War on Drugs, a social experiment during which millions of people have been incarcerated for minor and major drug offenses.  The sentences have been long and dramatic, and there is no group of people who’ve been hit harder by this initiative than the African American community.

One of the things that we discuss in our Building Oustanding Men and Boys (BOMB) family empowerment series is that we must all confront what the War on Drugs and a distorted criminal justice system has done to the black family in America.  Fathers have been taken away from their children, leaving women without husbands and kids with half of the parental guidance and protection that they would have had before.  As a result, an entire generation of black youth leave many of us wondering what the future holds for some of these kids.  When you’re raised without much of a family structure, it’s hard to create meaningful structure of your own.

In a capitalist and racist society, it’s very easy to see why the prison industrial complex has been allowed to grow unchecked as a result of this war.  Companies and individuals make billions of dollars every year as human being are (in the words of this film) “fed into a machine like sausage.”  In order to keep the greedy capitalist machine moving, you must keep giving it more fuel.  In the case of the prison industrial complex, that fuel consists of human beings.  The prison system is the new slavery in America.

“The House We Live In” lays out the War on Drugs and explains how it is destroying America and the black community.  As President Obama begins his second term, it is highly suggested that he keep his campaign promise and directly confront both the War on Drugs and associated racial disparities.  This epidemic must come to an end, no matter what the cost may be.

My fiance is facing 9-150 years in prison behind selling drugs. It hurts b/c our kids will suffer the most. They miss their father sooo much, he was the one who took care of them and know he will be gone for who knows how long. I have three sons that I maybe raising by myself. I just pray to God that they do not end up in the same predicament. They are young now and they love going to school which is a good thing for me as a mother to hear, they even cry when they cannot go to school. they are good boys and I pray that God will keep them on the path to righteousness. Satan is working overtime to try to divide, destroy and conquer but the blood of Jesus is here to save us and God’s love and mercy will sustain us. God bless.

DANNY GLOVER does a lot of good work…and looks like he has another winner. Our whole nation needs to examine what the real causes for all the use of drugs are…and instead of imprisoning every petty dealer…we need to stop the big time traffickers. Who is really behind all the drugs getting into the country? Why are African-Americans given long prison time — as opposed to what WHITE DRUG DEALERS get? And is it necessary for marijuana to be illegal and carry such long jail time? Can we solve the problems of POVERTY, LACK OF EDUCATION, and UNEMPLOYMENT?

I met Mr. Glover last year when he came to our state to march against those wretched ” right to work ” laws and he was a Oak in the process. The news media tried to downplay his appearance, but the people fighting for their rights knew who is was and why he was there. The drug game- between sellers, users suppliers and the overseers(police) is a dangerous game of chicken and we keep losing. We have to quit selling heroin, cocaine and crack because it is a plague on our communities and if black boys quit selling that shyt, the white man would starve in certain areas. Its a trap( weed is not the problem) and the way u stay our of the trap is to know what the bait is that lures you in. Hell even fish adapt and new lures are made to try to catch them. We must adapt!! Ptah ra!!

My dad was robbed some years ago in his quite neighborhood by two guys on the 1st of the month. My dad gets a nice pension and a lot of others in his area and these thugs attack three other people. The thing that get to him even to this day is that he told the robbers” why don’t you go out there with the white folks and rob them, they got more than me” and they told him ” hell you got more than us.” He is bitter about the behavior of some of our brothas and sistas and i try to defend us but what can I tell a man that worked 45 years of life and all he sees now is cats that is his mind ” don’t want to work and all they want to do is rob or take from u.” Point of the matter is that there are many folks that should not be in the pen, but there are many( like the one’s that robged my old man) that should. PS. According to the Justice Policy Institute, the majority of the people incarcerated in the pen are there for drug crimes. How do we in our communities battle that plague that has ruined some of our most vibrant areas( Chocolate Cities as George Clinton stated in his one of his prized songs)? We need an immediate intervention. Got any ideas? Because the war on drugs has been a war on black people. Remember, IMMEDIATE!!

Thiis is stricly for tita. You are such a dumb son of a ass whole. You want the world to feel sorry for your damn kids while you lover was out there killing my kids and grandkids. Not only mine but my husband and everyone elses grand-kids. and many other families he and people like him distroyed. And you want the world to feel sorry fior you and your kids? This could be one of your kid tomorrow. Just go out there and and look what your lover has done to his own people to feed his own kids. Now your kids are exposed to what he has done to others. I remember seeing the bastard who introduced that s*** to my son. Now he has a son. I really don’t want to see anyone on that stuff but, he should get a taste of what he made me live through. And you who feel that this is only a nine to five job. YOU HAVE TO FEEL WHAT MANY OF US MOTHERS, WIVES, SISTERS, BROTHERS, GRANDPARENTS CHILDREN AND PARENTS FEEL. You want my sympathy. Please ask me. I got something for you.

every since this negro started hanging around with american haters like belafonte and poitier and loving on white women he has been acting a fool just like them. the fool has been brainwashed to abandon his american black community in favor of dating white women and pretending rascism doesn’t exist. he’ll be willing his money back to the white community like those 2 caribbean fools he is friendly with no. foreign blacks want to be white so bad, and are so self hating.
