Man Arrested For ‘Penny Attack’ on Obama Campaign Workers

Republicans who hate President Obama are really coming up with creative ways to demonstrate their outrage. By now we’re all aware of the shooting of President Obama’s campaign office in Denver, but penny attacks? Really?

Texas Republican Gary Root, 71, was arrested for unleashing a penny attack on Obama campaign workers at Collier County headquarters. According to Root, he threw the penny because that’s all he had left after being overtaxed by the Obama administration.

Funny thing though: President Obama actually lowered taxes for middle class Americans, which is why PolitiFact, which assesses claims made by politicians, rated President Obama’s claim that he’s lowered taxes as “mostly true.”

PolitiFact reports:

We particularly give weight here to the tax cuts that were part of the stimulus and the payroll tax holiday, which reduced taxes for broad swaths of the workforce. Some small businesses may have been hit by new taxes that were part of Obama’s health law, but these would depend on the particular circumstances of each business. Also, there were new taxes on cigarettes and indoor tanning.

And although President Obama has stated that we need to eliminate the Bush tax cuts for those making over $250,000, he has yet to do so. So the question becomes, what is crazy ‘ol Gary Root complaining about? Is he just another right wing white dude looking to blame someone else for all of life’s problems because he feels he’s entitled to a certain standard of living? Isn’t that what you call white privilege?

Anyway, Mr. Root, who was drinking alcohol at the time of the penny attack, was arrested and charged with a misdemeanor. Maybe if he could stay out of the bottle, he could figure out where all his money is going. Hint: Obama didn’t steal it. Maybe the liquor store has it.
