It’s Official: GOP Senate Candidate Todd Akin Has a Problem With Women

First GOP Senate candidate  Todd Akin said during an interview that a woman is capable of rejecting a pregnancy if the rape is not legitimate. “If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down” said Akin. Next, Akin accused his opponent, Sen. Claire McCaskill’s (D), of not being  ”ladylike”, and now, Akin says that it’s perfectly fine for women to earn less than men for the same work.

Akin was taking a question from a voter who asked about the congressman why he voted against the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act: “Why do you think it is okay for a woman to be paid less for doing the same work as a man?”  asked the voter.

“I believe in free enterprise,” Akin said. “I don’t think the government should be telling people what you pay and what you don’t pay. I think it’s about freedom. If someone wants to hire somebody and they agree on a salary, that’s fine, however it wants to work. So, the government sticking its nose into all kinds of things has gotten us into huge trouble.”

As far as Akin is concerned, if a woman earns less than a man for the same work, so be it. That’s just how free enterprise works.

Most Republicans take the line that women actually don’t earn less than men when asked this question, but not Akin. He sees an opportunity to set a double standard for pay in this country, and he’s taking it.

See a pattern here? Akin is digging a hole for himself with his remarks, and all of the remarks that  have caused him trouble have been directed against women. I don’t know what Akin’s deal is with women, but there’s definitely something there.  It’s clear to all that he has a problem with women.
