Romney Defines Middle Income as $200,000 to $250,000 or Less, and Guess What? So Does Obama

by Yvette Carnell

Mitt Romney is under fire because he says he’s going to reduce taxes, but won’t offer a real plan. This has left researchers with no choice but to use Romney’s loose outlines and benchmarks to reach the conclusion that his plan would raise taxes on the middle class by as much as $2,000.

Romney steadfastly denies that this is true, and maybe he’s right. By that I mean, if you use Romney (and Obama’s) definition of middle class, as opposed to the traditional metrics, maybe he has a point.

On Friday, Romney defined middle class as those people earning $200,000 to $250,000 a year and less. Because that definition clumps in people who earn $15,000 with those who earn $100,000, it’s overly broad. But to include people who earn $250,000 per year as part of the middle class is also a high definition that Obama also subscribes to.

Romney made his comments during an interview broadcast on ABC’s “Good Morning America.”

“No one can say my plan is going to raise taxes on middle-income people, because principle number one is (to) keep the burden down on middle-income taxpayers,” Romney told George Stephanopoulos.

“Is $100,000 middle income?” Stephanopoulos asked.

“No, middle income is $200,000 to $250,000 and less,” Romney responded.

President Obama defines “middle class families” as those earning less than $250,000 but not individuals. The Romney campaign has clarified Romney’s comments to say that he was referencing families, and not individuals, as well.

What is left out of both conversations, though, is the poor. The median household income in this country is somewhere around $50,000 per year, so it is curious how both campaigns are concentrating their efforts on people in the six figure range, even though most taxpayers aren’t anywhere near that. Left totally out of the discussion are people in the $18,000, $9,000, and zero dollar range. When you adjust for inflation, the working poor and real middle income earners haven’t gotten a raise since the Reagan administration. Nearly half of Americans don’t even earn enough to pay income taxes. Can we talk about that?

This so called journalist is talking out of both sides of her mouth. Ignorance is bliss and she has it all wrong. Obama does NOT consider $200-250 middle class. He has never defined middle class by numbers. He simply offers tax cuts for those at $@250 upward. Stop creating lies to sell your useless and misleading article.

I enjoy reading black news, but it has forced me to conclude that black ppl are dumbs as a bag ‘o rocks.

@rasil, what do you mean Obama does NOT consider $200 -$250 middle class? Who are you arguing with? Your d**n self? Romney said middle class is $250-200k OR LESS, and so did Obama.

    From New York Times:

“In a discussion on “Good Morning America” about his tax plan, Mitt Romney suggested the cutoff for middle income was for households earning “$200,000 to $250,000 and less.” President Obama has used a similar threshold in talking about extending tax cuts for the middle class.”

Guess theyr creating lies to tank Obama too, huh? I’m tellin u, dumb as rocks ova’ here.

The middle class has sub-divisions. You have the upper middle class, the middle class, and the lower middle class. Within 12 years, the republican party practically financially annihilated the Middle. Now there are only two classes, The Rich and The Poor.

Well the only thing I can add to this argument. I should not be paying any taxes. Because I am retired and do not make anything close to $2000.00–$250.000 per year.Let hope people will hold them both for what they say. Those of us who make under $100.000 per year shouldn’t pay any taxes.

You people are just stupid, you believe anything this stupid b***h Yvette Carnell writes. There is nowhere that it is written that Obama defines the middle class as those earning between $200,000- $250,000. Yvette Carnell, must be a elementary school drop out, because she certainly has never learned reading comprehension. Those figures are for tax thresholds, and Obama wants tax cuts, tax cuts, and I’ll repeat this again for all of you that are mentally challenged like this stupid b***h Yvette Carnell, he wants tax cuts for those earning less than $250.000 per year, which the majority of people do. How can anyone, that claims to be intelligent, read this to include anything about $250,000, being middle class? If you earn $5,000, you’d get an tax cut. If you earned $10,000, you’d get an tax cut. If you’d earned $20, 000, you’d get an tax cut, and on, and on, and on until you reached the $250.000 threshold. Please people, learn how to read for yourselves. The republicans have stooges like this b***h Yvette Carnell, Boyce, West, and Smiley out there to deliver misinformation. They actually think that we are all uneducated idiots, that will believe anything they say, because you are too stupid, and lazy to read and investigate for yourselves.
