Right Wing Goes Crazy Over Imaginary ‘Obama Phone’, Which is Really a ‘Bush Phone’… Let Me Explain
In case you haven’t heard, the entire right wing establishment is in a tizzy over the comment of one black woman who said Obama has her vote because
he gave her an ‘Obama phone.’ Right wing rag Drudge carried the non-story first, and because it played into the fictional narrative that Obama voters, blacks especially, are dependent on government help, it quickly went viral.
There’s only one problem with the story though; there’s no such thing as an ‘Obama phone.’
ThinkProgress reports:
Since 2009, there has been an urban myth that Obama created a program to provide free phones to low-income Americans at taxpayer expense. There is, in fact, a government program that will provide low-income people with a free or low cost cell phone. It was started in 2008 under George W. Bush.
But of course, nobody did the research before Rush “Oxycontin” Limbaugh went on the air, because this is what he had to say about the fabricated controversy over the supposed “Obama phone”:
So these are the people that don’t like Romney because of what he said about 47%? No, these are the 47%!… She knows. She knows how to get this free Obama phone. She knows everything about it. She may not know who George Washington is or Abraham Lincoln, but she knows how to get an Obama phone.
Actually, the woman in the video has Bush to thank for her free phone and if Limbaugh has a problem with that, then he should take it up with Dubya. But when have facts mattered to the right wing? This is just a distraction to take attention away from Mitt Romney’s 47% remark, which is still making news. Too bad it’s a lie. The conservative lie machine will need to try a little harder next time.
