83 Year Old Woman Shot and Killed by Police After She Called to Report Break In
The police are supposedly in our neighborhoods to protect and serve, but more and more, it’s looking as if inept and poorly trained cops are a threat to
our very way of life. There have been several recent examples of police injuring innocent people, most notably the NYPD fiasco where cops injured nine people near the Empire State building.
Now, an 83 year old woman who called police to report a break in is dead after being shot by police.
WDBJ7.com reports:
Relatives say the 83-year-old was wandering behind her house. WDBJ7 has learned Delma may have fired a gunshot through her back door.
She then left her house and tried to walk through her backyard to the home of her sister who, lives two doors away.
Delma got all the way to her sister’s back porch and that’s when family members say she was shot by a police officer.
“I heard something this morning on the news that something happened in Altavista,” Carl Barbour, the victim’s grandson said. “But I never thought it would be my grandmother. I mean, I thought it would be something to do with a drug-related problem, or something in that nature. Then I get called when I’m at work that it’s my grandmother. And I’m like ‘What?’ Because I can’t believe it.”
I’m sure it was dark, but the police couldn’t tell the difference between a would be robber and an 83 year old woman? And did the officer who shot the 83 year old woman even bother to announce himself? Or is the policy to now just shoot first and ask questions later? And why was the officer shooting at someone on the back porch of another home? There are more questions than answers, but police aren’t releasing any information.

Definitely a shoot first ask questions later approach.
Which is why the British police, and their government, continue to adamantly refuse to routinely arm police officers.
Seems to me (following the fatal shooting of an amputee a few days ago), that the last number you should dial, if you suspect you’re in any danger, is 911?
This story, must have been written by a 2nd grade student. It doesn’t even say where this tragedy occurred. Whoever this Denise person is, it is no wonder why she can’t find a job writing for an reputable news organization, she is not qualified.
The questions I would be asking are: why would any one, who can’t see and can’t hear (she didn’t have either her hearing aid in or her glasses on, and needed both to function) and suffered from dementia or alzheimers have a gun, and fire it? Her family was aware of her condition AND the fact she owned a gun, yet they didn’t remove the gun. If she was of sound mind and couldn’t see or hear, what was she shooting at?
Yea Kathi, that is the questions you would ask? Really? That woman should be shot because she didn’t have her glasses or hearing aid on? She was sleep walking and or crazy. Probably deserved it. Poor cops. Her family should be shot too for not taking her gun away. Right?
