V.P. Pick Paul Ryan Once Told a Student He Should Work 3 Jobs to Pay For College Instead of Taking Pell Grants
Well, this is how it works I guess. Rep. Paul Ryan was quite alright with getting Social Security death benefits from taxpayers after his father died, but 
that’s only for him. Only he’s entitled to government benefits and government help. The rest of us have to make it on our own, pull ourselves up by our bootstraps and all. This is the only explanation available for why Rep. Ryan told a student in 2011 that he should take three jobs to pay for school instead of accepting Pell grants.
During a town hall back in 2011, House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-WI) was asked by student Matthew Lowe why the GOP wanted to cut Pell Grants. Lowe said he received $5,500 per year in Pell Grants to pay for school, and although it didn’t come close to covering the entire cost, it did lessen the burden.
Congressman Ryan responded, saying, ”Cause Pell Grants have become unsustainable. It’s all borrowed money…Look, I worked three jobs to pay off my student loans after college. I didn’t get grants, I got loans, and we need to have a system of viable student loans to be able to do this.”
Ryan went on to offer his real reason for opposing Pell Grants; they leave little room for the private student loan shark industry.
“The second concern I have is, in the health care bill — people don’t know this — for budgetary gimmickry reasons, the administration and Congress at the time, took over the student loan industry. So they had the federal government, the Department of Education, basically confiscate the private student loan industry” said Ryan.
By that logic, Ryan should have sent the Social Security money he received after his father’s death back with a note that read “Sorry, I can’t accept this money because it’s unsustainable and it hinders the private loan industry.” Of course, that’s probably what he would’ve done if he didn’t view himself as more special and deserving of help than everyone else.

You all have got to be kidding. It’s called WORK ETHIC, something there is apparently little of anymore. The brainwashing has almost become complete. I did both, received grants and worked my way though college. Get your facts straight, Ryan’s father had died and he was a young teenager when he received Social Security “death” benefits which were due him.
Stop this lunacy and divisiveness. Folks are turning this country into a socialist, communist, marxist nation. Stop drinking the Koolaid. Sad when we no longer applaud having a good WORK ETHIC!
What is sad that adults wanting to oversee the lives of a nation of people, will lie and cheat to get their way. What is more sad, the ignoramouses who empathize with the sinful ways of these people.
Karen I don’t know how long ago you graduated school but if it was recently, it more than likely was from a very inexpensive school. Pricing for schooling has grown increasingly expensive for the middle class; they’re not rich enough to pay for it in full but don’t get enough aid for these ballooning tuition costs. Instead of limiting the resources because of sustainability of the program, regulate the pricing for these institutions.
Also, you even stated yourself that you received grants AND worked; if those grants were taken away how would you have fared? It has become a very marginal slippery slope for higher education with middle class America, maybe you should put the cup of KoolAid down.
Our Country is in store for a world of hurt if Romney/Ryan are elected. The Country will be owned by rich twisted men, and the Oval Office will be a place where transactions are settled. Instead of The Peoples House, the White House will become The Rich Peoples House.
They may call it the (Richard) Nixon house. You know these people find someway to idolize their wounded. If they do not rename the house, there is sure to be a Nixon chamber where the crooks can deal.

Ryan and Romney are going to screw any hard working person that makes under $1 million or less.
Ryan also wants to cut medicaid. Do you agree with that, too?
They are trying to repeal the healthcare act by stating it failed in Mass. It did not! 98% of adults and 99% of children ACTUALLY have healthcare in that state.
The voting rights act will do nothing more that affect older african americans. do your research! this guy is not a good person and you can talk about him getting social security when he was a child; but I can guarantee that he doesn’t want anyone else to get those benefits (even though every hard working person has been paying into it since they have been paying taxes). they want to do away with social security because BUSH (jr. and sr.) ruined that for everyone.
Before you start defending those two, you’d better do your research of their politics ‘before’ you vote (that is, IF you vote)

I HATE when people over the age of 30 talk about paying for school!! The cost of college has increased dramatically and whatever he paid in the 80′s has nothing to do with what students in 2012 are paying, so cut it the bs.
The idea is to outprice college tuitions for minorities and the underclass. You people are getting too smart and doing too much. You excell in every category: golf, basketball, football, presidency. If your money and education are gone, what do you have? Did slaves who came over on the boat have money or education? Biden spoke the truth but worded it right at the wrong time.
The thing here though is Ryan wants grants frowned upon because those funds are allocated by the government. He can well afford to pay for his children’s education and for of some of the neighborhood kids education too. Grants keep minorities
and the underclass able to attend college. He wants frowning on minorities and the underclass who are not wealthy to be a norm. He and his millionaire buddies probably meet and discuss if there plan to segregate, divide, and concur will work so that they can establish some holocaust of their own.

The Facts: there are not that many people getting federal aid for school because there are not that many people going to college. We are still a ‘stuck on stupid’ nation that doesn’t value high school, let alone college. Black kids can hardly read, let alone do math and science. How are you expected to work three jobs when it’s hard to keep 1 job in this economy especially when corporations/people keep sending jobs overseas? It’s really quite a conundrum.
Thank you so much, Christopher. Folks can’t even get ONE job these days, and many jobs demand so much of their employee’s time in terns of being flexible with availability of hours, etc.
If your one job wants you to be available for whatever schedule they put you on, how in the world will you be able to have a schedule for the other TWO jobs?? And furthermore, how does one get any sleep?
And Dana, I agree with you wholeheartedly. Back in the day college was MUCH cheaper. Now, students are weighed down with 60, 70, 100 thousand dollars with of debt when they come out of college and no job when they get out, to boot!

when I sit an think of of the true story of racism that my Grandmother, used 2-tell me cummin up as a child, he in The Racial south.
