Tough Times? Jay Leno Forced to take $10 Million Pay Cut and Tonight Show Fires 20 Staffers
Jay Leno shows us that all that glitters isn’t gold, as the Tonight Show is having some tough financial times. The show has reportedly laid off 20 – 25 employees and the host has taken a massive pay cut of $10 million dollars.
It’s hard to feel bad for Leno, who was making way too much at $30 million, but it does send a signal that perhaps the show was a bit over bloated in the first place.
Leno, at the age of 62, is now collecting a cool $20 million. He also makes another $15 – $20 million from personal appearances and speeches. So, maybe he can afford to give another $10 million to help those staffers keep their jobs.
Other staffers don’t make as much as Jay, but they were told to take pay cuts or else. The show is highly popular, but still struggles to break even. The surprise comes from NBC right as the network was heavily criticized for showing delayed broadcasts of the Olympics and deleting Ann Curry from the Today Show.
The show’s weekly budget is from $2.3 million to $2.7 million.
Here is another piece of worthless information that you might find interesting. Jay Leno got his start as a comedy writer for Jimmie Walker. Leno also made appearances on the TV show “Good Times” back in the 1970s.

I can’t imagine taking a $10 million a year pay cut, I could never get by. Of course I hear Leno has 1/2 billion $ in the bank (some say closer to 1 billion) so he doesn’t have to worry about it. But d**n, I would reallly miss that $10 exrta million every year!
Poor jay, his problems make me sad (right-duh). Do u know how many people would love 2 make his salary and they really are funny. And jimmie wasn’t that funny @all, he was simple. So like I said ooooo poor J.
After the way he double-crossed Conan O’Brien I say “What goes around comes around” That show has been doing poorly ever since he (Leno) promised to give up the show to Conan. The network had Conan move his family and crew clear cross country to take over ,then Leno refused to give up the show. Conan sued for breach of contract and was rewarde nicely, but Leno’s popularity suffered greatly. Tha’ts justice!!
He’s a dip stick. I for one, stopped watching years ago in protest.

Well it seems like Mr. Leno should not have came back to late nite television let’s not forget what he did too Connon O’Brien he snuck in and quietly took Mr.O’Brien’s job and now he’s loosing a fortune when you do bad things to others it some how has a way of coming back on you.Mr O’Brien was paid a huge sum of money too step aside and he got his late show back I bet he is laughing at Jay Leno right about now.
Jay Leno was making $30 million a year, and now he’s down to $20 million? Aww how sad. I’m sure the man is struggling to pay his bills and manage million dollar homes, can’t put gas in his tanks, and has to abandon vacationing in Aruba. So sorry about his “financial problems” that aren’t really financial problems to Americans who go from a $50,000 salary to $0 because they’ve been laid off. And people who are,these days, glad to make just minimum wage. Shut the heck up Jay Leno. So sick of these whiney celebs making millions and act like the world came to an end when they lost what they’ve considered a few lousy dollars in the first place. You spend a million dollars so casually like you just bought a candy bar at the dollar store, but throw a b***h fit when it comes outta your salary? Don’t spend money you can’t afford to lose!!!
