Russell “Rush Card” Simmons: Romney Will Destroy Our People, Laugh All the Way to the Bank

Hip-hop multimillionaire and Yogi guru Russell Simmons decided to pen his thoughts about the upcoming presidential race, writing that Mitt Romney 
and Paul Ryan will “destroy our people and laugh all the way to the bank.”
Simmons continues, “EVERYTHING’S FOR SALE! And all of the money that is made on everything that is sold will be made on the backs of the poor and the working class. Take away social security, take away healthcare, privatize education, cut food assistance programs, outsource another war, eliminate services for women and then hide your money in off-shore accounts so we never know how much you made! In the Romney/Ryan administration, whatever you can pay for, you will be able to get, period.”
Simmons is right about the Romney and Ryan ticket, but his comments seem a bit duplicitous. I mean, isn’t Simmons “laughing all the way to the bank” at the expense of black people with his “Rush Card”, which charges outrageous rates of interest? What is the difference between pay day lenders and the Rush Card?
But this isn’t the first time Simmons has penned an editorial which has drawn criticism. He previously said that the age-old conflict between the Jewish nation and the Palestinian Authority is like a “rap beef” that could be fixed through “a little trust” and meaningful dialogue. That comment was probably one of the most breathtakingly naive ever, and bespoke a man who doesn’t understand the nature of the conflict, which is white supremacy. You’d think a black dude who made his millions in hip-hop would get that. Obviously not. Too much time paling around with Gwyneth Paltrow at the Hamptons, I suppose.
Simmons also came under fire when he tried to tamp down frustration over the Trayvon Martin killing, tweeting that “Trayvon Martin didn’t die so we can create a race war he died so we can promote better understanding. We must start honest dialogue.” Of course, Trayvon Martin died because George Zimmerman put a hole in his chest, not so Russell Simmons could use his Martin’s to promote his own meditation brand.
So, although I get the message that Simmons is sending, I doubt that he’s the one who should be sending it, since he plays on the same field, and by the same rules, as Romney.

yes simmons is a hypocrite, but so are you in allowing predatory for profit schools like virginia college and itt technical institue to adverstise on your sites to black people.
as you know, proprietary schools are under investigation by the federal government due to being the biggest crooks in education when it comes to exploiting minorites.

Actually, Chante is right on the money. I run a couple of hip hop blogs, and “advertise with us links” are for affiliates. Affiliate links are static, meaning they don’t change when you refresh. They’ll be the same today, tomorrow, and the days and weeks after that (there are a lot of InMotion hosting ads like that). The ads on this site change every time I visit, meaning they’re dynamic Google AdSense ads. And they’re placement is actually related to what you’re reading currently, or something you’ve searched on line. You’re just wrong about this one Raheem.

Well the fact that you don’t understand how they get paid only means that you don’t understand how they get paid. It doesn’t mean anything else. Perhaps if you do some research you will understand that this is how Google Ad sense works. If you don’t know what static means, then look it up. It means that the ads stay the same as oppose to a revolving ad that Google ad sense uses. Google use a variety of analytics to determine what ad will scroll on what page. It is just that simple. And yes I do know what I am talking about because this is my profession. I just find it highly suspicious that people would be fixated on this rather than the content of the blog. It you want to assess the merits of Carnells blog than that’s alright, but to comment on this ad generating bot, that most people don’t fully understand unless you are a webmaster or some other IT related person is somewhat ridiculous.

Lisa, you missed the point here. Raheem said that Boyce and Yvette control the ads that show up here, and that made them hypocrites since he saw an ad for a “for profit” college. What Eric just said, and what I said, is that they don’t control Google Ads sense they’re based on what you search. Raheem saw a college ad bc he’s expressed interest in colleges during his searches online. I saw an ad for electronics. Get it? No one ever said that they don’t make their money thru ads. I get both sides, but why does a DISCUSSION have to turn into name calling? Discussion means setting all sides of that discussion with passion and not anger.
I understand what Yvette is saying, but Simmons is making valid points about what’s at stake if Romney is elected this winter. The Rush Card may be likened to predatory lenders like Ace Cash Advanced and other loan sharks in the black community but the difference between him and Romney is that with Russell you have the choice of using his card or not using his card (either to think or not to think). If Romney is elected president there will be no choice but to accept his radical right ideology as public policy (his victory would signify popular mandate to enact his conservative agenda). You see no one puts a gun to poor black people’s head and forces them to patronize the Rush card; they do so upon there on accord. So the problem is not Romney or Simmons- the problem is dumb a*s uninformed poor people. Its like we all receive Dr. Boyce’s and Yvettes news feeds about predatory lenders and their astronomical interests rates, and by taking the time to read them we elevate our awareness on the subject and are less likely to patronize these businesses. That’s education that many of our brothers and sisters in poverty just don’t receive. Why? Because they rather be educated by BET and other brain dead programs streaming live from the death box (cable television).

Listen, at the end of the day if you screw up your credit, life for you will suck!!! And that’s based on my personal experience…high interest rates on loans, etc…IF you can get one at all. My mom told me that as a teenager, I didn’t listen…took me about 15 years to finally get it.
Bad credit in the eyes of institutions mean that you are not trust worthy and high risk (although that’s not always the case)…so if they’re gonna take a risk on you, you’re not gonna get the same fluff as somebody with a positive pay history.
So why would you think that the Rush Card would be any different? Cause Russell Simmons is black?!!! Black people we need to get over that mindset…if we want better we need to stop looking for somebody else to “hook us up”, black or not. You want better than what the Rush Card has to offer, then let’s start being responsible, living within our means, and rebuilding our credit…then it won’t matter about the fees cause we won’t need a Rush card.

The only thing Russell Simmons says that I agree with is for people to go out and vote. Other than that I cant stand him! He has made millions off of Ignorance and violence and then wants to be an ambassador of Zen and peace. What a FRAUD!
