Mike Tyson on Chad Johnson: It All Comes Down to “Believing You’re More Than What You Are” [Video]

Regardless of what you think about Mike Tyson, you have to admit that he’s lived the majority of his life as a black man in the spotlight. He’s been accused of s****l misconduct and domestic abuse, so he has a lot of experience in dealing with what Chad Johnson is currently going through.  In a discussion about Johnson’s troubles,  Tyson says it all comes down to “believing you’re more than what you are.”

For those who don’t know, Johnson was arrested for headbutting his wife, and then summarily cut from the Miami Dolphins. Your Black World reports:

Chad Johnson, formerly Chad Ochocinco, has been released from the Miami Dolphins.  His cut from the team took place less than 24 hours after he was arrested for domestic violence against his wife Evelyn Lozada.

FOX Sports’ Jay Glazer reported Johnson’s release, tweeting this statement:

“The Miami Dolphins have just released Chad Johnson, scouts cleaned out his locker”

Tyson says when fame hits, it’s easy to believe that you’re special, that you’re someone you’re actually not. Tyson says, “you’ll even believe that you’re not a n****r,  you’ll believe that ‘I’m different than the rest of the blacks.’”

Tyson goes onto say that you always need to put “who you are in perspective with the perspective of the world that you live in.”

“You can’t explain headbutting a woman” says Tyson. He also says Johnson is everything he never wanted to be in front of the whole world. Tyson ends by saying that if you’re not conscious, emotions can take you places that you never thought you’d go.
