Man Kicked Off Spirit Airlines Flight Over Saggy Pants

No one really knows why the saggy pants trend won’t go away, but what we do know is that the trend has gotten a lot of young men in a lot of trouble. There are health related issues, such as hip damage, cities have passed laws forbidding saggy pants, and one judge even sentenced a man to jail for wearing saggy pants to court. So it comes as no surprise that saggy pants can now result in you being removed from a flight.

A man was kicked off a Spirit Airlines flight after he began verbally abusing flight attendants who asked him to pull up his  sagging  pants.

The Chicago Tribune reports:

The man and the woman he was traveling with Sunday morning threatened physical harm to flight attendants who had asked him to pull up his pants, which were “excessively low,” hanging below his buttocks, Spirit spokeswoman Misty Pinson said. The man was boarding the Orlando, Fla.-bound plane when flight attendants spoke to him, she said.

Crew members may ask customers to comply with various requests if they are in “the best interest” of the other customers, Pinson said.

The man probably should’ve pulled up his pants before he left home, but that goes without saying. Spirit’s code requires that customers wear “adequate” clothing and shoes.

When the police arrived, the two passengers grabbed their bags and exited the plane. The couple was booked on another Spirit flight.

After all is said and done, one wonders if the couple actually believes that it was all worth it. Was a fight over sagging pants worth missing your original flight? Or embarrassing yourselves on a flight? It just seems that it would’ve been much easier to pull your pants up than to curse at flight attendants. Some people just make things harder on themselves than they have to be.

It breaks my heart to see our young men walking down the streets with their pants below their behinds. It is the most disgusting style that I can remember.

I whole-heartedly agree. My Sons would never even think of because they know although they may be grown I would literally slap a knot on their head. Secondly this alledged style came from Prison, and a lot of them probably don’t have a clue as to what it means. If they did maybe they would rethink it.

I applaud Spirit airlines. No one wants to see someones freakin underwear. Part of the problem I see, in the black community is to little respect for anyone including themselves! When I was growing up there use to be a law, indecent exposure. You couldn’t walk around showing your underwear no matter who it was.

While many considered zoom suits flamboyant or even silly, they were not considered indecent. As far as men who wear them being embarrassed, they’re too ignorant to have an embarrassed level. They should have never been allowed on the plane showing their underwear. It’s getting so bad now that I’ve seen a couple with stains on the crack of their….

More compianies should step up and require a dress code before you enter their establishment. We have a MD that require you to be proper dress before you are serve in their store.

The parents who let these fools leave the house like that should be fined heavily..in fact these young Jerks need to be given Citations and fines because they’re really promoting a Prison-s*x code practice that MOST of them don’t even know about. If most of them could read and write (skills most are lacking from what a lot of them sometimes post here in the comments) they COULD “Google” “Sagging and read what it says about this disgusting “Fashion Trend”

Please get your facts straight. Sagging pants has nothing to do s*x. The look actually came from prison where the incarcerated are not issued belts to keep the the pants up that are not custom fitted. Prison issued clothing tends to be rather baggy, especially the pants that tend to fall off. While I agree that wearing pants below their buttocks is unsightly, I do know that all the youngsters we see with low pants are not nasty, dirty, stupid or thugs. How many of you adults wore/did things that your parents didn’t like when you were young? Some may not have anyone to guide them Maybe instead of snubbing these young men, you could educate them in what is proper attire for different occassions.

I totally agree. All black youth trends end up being demonized and the older generation jumps right on the band wagon. So quick to demonize our youth meanwhile white kids have earings all over their face, hair died crazy colors, ripped jeans with their underwear exposed, but its ok for white youth to wear clothes however they like. The whole jail house origin of sagging is false unless you were a true jail house trick. There are also levels of sagging and it doesn’t mean your pants are below your knees. having your pants pulled up to your belly button is not comfortable and doesn’t look good. Most young black men only wear their pants a little below their waste line. Stop demonizing Black men.

Honey, most of us I’m sure have not heard of the story that you posted above (by the way, I looked it up– and passed it on– and yes, it’s some double-standard racist mess).

But you know what? I don’t want our young men and women dressing like this with sagging pants and women’s underwear in public!! That is not our standard!

If White society is crazy enough to allow THEIR men, women, and children to dress this way in public and conduct themselves this way, that is their business, but know that the whole world is watching!! People are hearing what they say and seeing their wicked and perverted deeds and believe me, their ways are rejected over much of the face of the Earth!

I get very upset at the double-standard also. They go on every day in just about all of our American society and they are no surprise to me when they happen.

I do believe that “we shall overcome.” The tables will turn.

According to the Bible: “The first shall be last, and the last shall be first.” I KNOW it’s true.

And Geegee, sorry, you’re speaking falsely. Im from NYC and Black and other races of young men there very often wear their pants sagging BELOW THEIR b**t CHEEKS.

Also, I know people who have been in the prison system who have told me THEMSELVES how the sagging pants thing was a signal that the man was ready to get it in the b**t.

I don’t like what White youths do any more than I like the Black/Hispanics etc wearing sagging pants. I cant stand to see young people with piercings all over and dirty jeans, dirty, messy clothes. I don’t care what race the person is.

The media, and hierarchies in many factions of our society demonize Black men. But just because they do, does not mean that Black people should not have standards!

The guy was sagging. I mean as big as his a@@@ was, he was sagging. IT was totally disgusting and I was put out that a young lady would be seen with such gutter trash. I couldn’t agree with you and Moonhead more!!! It is exponentially worse when so-called intelligent folks in the black community and the media “crown” rappers like Jay-Z and Kanye with their profane and disgusting lyrics as “musical geniuses” and the genre is heralded as an ideal means of creating wealth even as it has dumb-downed those who patronize these artists and emulate what they say and do. To paraphrase one of rap’s “legends” (I recall) – “rap is not just about music, it is a culture – a lifestyle.” And, that is precisely the problem.

It is destroying our culture of civility every day because these folks are bringing offensive behaviors out in the open for all to see and be offended by and there does not seem to be anything that the common person can do about it.

My husband takes the train to work and every day he has a bizarre tale about some young guy with sagging pants so low that his dirty underwear is shown or even the upper crevice of his behind, some Nicki Minaj-type hairstyle or attire, loud/lewd language/music, disrespect for passengers to include the elderly and young children, etc. It has become an epidemic and we have to take some pragmatic steps as a civil society to curb this increasingly vile and crude behavior in our public venues.

The least civil of us should not have freedom to unleash their incivility with impunity while the rest of us remain silent or has to “take it” in fear of confrontation or even loss of life.

and they are the future of black america. the few that will pursue education, military etc. will be preyed upon by these who will be for the better choice of words losers in society. if you dont want to be stereo typed as something dont wear clothes that put you in that image. black people dont get it. these young people want economic power thru rap music etc. well i have no problem with rap but we as a people have been here longer than any other ethnic group and by now we should all take a good look and see what is it that everybody wants to buy from blacks? nothing. music is not going to employ black people. black people are making everyone else rich except ourselves. the prison system as well. for every black man confined is one less black man they have to worry about becoming great. yeah there were black communities of wealth destroyed by whites. but now no excuse we should know the system of capitalism better than the foreigners who open shop whom we support. simply buy black to build black economics. the rich blacks especially our athletes love to open bars, clubs, etc. dont we parade around enough in the nice clothes and cars etc. and we dont even control our own black hair market. yet we have enough rich black who could get together to try to make a change. i have been around the world all cultures served three branches of the military and noticed that
the Indians, Chinese, Koreans, Mexicans, etc. some have surnames
like Patel which is simply a group of rich people that form businesses. which is what we should be doing. They dont have to like each other just work together start companies have someone
else manage it and employ your own people. instead we continue to earn riches from the white man and give it right back. we need to stop the slave mentality mind set. there is no excuse any longer.

The sagging pants trend started in prison with men using g this as a signal to other prisoners that they were open to s****l relationships. If all the teens who refuse to end this trend knew this, the trend might disappear overnight. Once this left the prisons and hit the streets it was adopted by those lazy and not wanting to take interest in looking presentable. It is a statement “accept me like I am because I will not conform to what is appropriate”. It is disrespectful but very telling of the self esteem that the wearer has. This trend is not longer “laziness” because these young people put so much energy into matching the underwear with the shoes or some other accessory. Problem is, if I was to interview a young man who presented himself like this, he would not get the job. If he is too lazy to pull his pants up and too obstinate to conform to what is socially appropriate then he does not need to work for me.

DC: Interesting take. He will not get a job if he ‘looks’ a certain way. I think I heard that before, like in the 1950s. It was called employment discrimination. If you have your own business you can do that. If you do not you might be carrying water for some one else’s cultural views. It is like the Tuskegee Project. Black church goers subjected their fellow church goers to untreated syphilis, thus caryring some one else’s water.

What intelligent, caring adult, would want their young people to look like filthy animals, and fools? It is scum like you, that is giving approval to these young people, to their thuggish way of life, and contributes to their unemployment, mis education, and incarceration, and then you people try to blame it on racism. Well, you can call me a black racist. I am racist toward people that want to look like trash. I am racist toward people that call themselves n*****s. I am racist toward people that rape, rob, and murder people. I am racist toward people that don’t want a job, nor an education. @Oscar,
I agree with you. There are not only issues of a lack of respect for themselves and others, but there are also some health issues that concern me. Everyone is not clean with the bottom and I have a problem sitting in a seat behind someone sagging. The belt or waistband is below his b**t when he sits down which is no protection against the spread of odor and bacteria. How hard is it to pull your pants to your natural waist and look like a man? I adore a well-dressed and neatly attired man no matter the age. When I was a little girl the men wore suits and ties everyday. My dad and all of my male relatives were dressed to kill when they were not at work. They alwaaays wore a belt and some wore both a belt and suspenders. My granddad wore both and when someone came into the house he pulled them up on his shoulders and was the man of the house too do business with or whatever role it meant at the time. I wasa raised in the 50′s and 60′s when there was no such thing as sloppy. The young guys out there today leave much to be desired. If I was their age I’d just be alone, I can’t stand sloppy. But I’m waiting for an ordinance in Chicago that one of our alderwomen put up for discussion in the City Council. I’m waiting to see what happens.

Spirit Airlines took a stand … “a line in the sand.” This was probably tough as “sales” normally does not care as long as you buy. Perhaps, in the interest of common law and decency, the Spirit flight attendant is showing the way. The question now is who else will follow suit. Take note, the offending couple took another Spirit flight. We don’t know if they (the couple) complied with the dress code.

Brothers and Sisters, we should not care about what other races are doing. The Black youth is in peril today; therefore, we need to set standards in order to produce productive citizens. Yes, white folks have their outrages trends in society. Unfortunately, there are double standards in America between black and whites. We must teach our youth that we can be different but not disrespectful and outrages.
