Listen to the President of Ireland Make a Fool of This Tea Partier

by Yvette Carnell

This exchange, from 2010, is of Ireland’s President, Michael D Higgins, taking apart Tea Party loving radio host Michael Graham. What Higgins makes apparent is what most people already know; the current incarnation of the Tea Party is actually antithetical to American values. The idea that hard working Americans should be without health care isn’t American, it’s Ayn Randian.

What is sad is that Higgins knows more about Americanism than do most Tea Party devotees, which mostly demonstrates the power of propaganda in this country. Case and point, in 2002, according to Gallup, around 62 percent of Americans believed that it was the responsibility of  government to ensure that Americans had health care coverage. That number has plummeted over the past decade, and not because of any new information, but because the right wing has been successful at convincing the American people that universal health care is socialist and, therefore, anti-American.

Remarkable really, that the insurance lobby, and other  people with more money than they know what to do with, could convince poor and middle class people that they’re not entitled to health care, or that their government, the richest gov’t in the world as luck would have it, has no role in ensuring that they receive health care.

Anyway, America would probably be better off if we had more people like Higgins, who are willing to call out than Tea Party, as opposed to mainstream Democrats, who prefer to cow tow with them.

WOW!!! For the first time that I can remember, a tea partier was shut down completely!!! I agree with this gentleman on each and every thing that he has said. I am in awe about the way that these people have treated Obama since he has become President of the United States, to say the least!! This Tea Party organization was birthed at the very same time Obama won the election. To me, this is the new face of the Klan without their white robes and coned hats!! They used to hold their tongues a little when speaking ill of a President in this country. But now, they let it all hang out to the point that you don’t have to listen very closely to what they were trying to say anymore!!!! The disrespect of this President comes from all levels of our society even the military. When I was in the military, one wouldn’t dare say anything bad about the President and if you did, there was an Article 15 coming your way!!! A federal judge in Montana even said that Obama’s mother has s*x with a dog and this is how she got pregnant with him. He said that this was a joke. Can you tell me where the punchline is?

It seems hate and greed has moved to the top of the line again in America!! Stevie Wonder had a song a few years back that really defined what I am feeling right now and that is “love’s in need of love today!”

it was inspirational! and it came from someone who seems to love american ideology more than those who actually are American. Its kind of sad in a way that someone from another country can speak more truth about what we are supposed to be about than those who live here. He tells it like it is and the opposers had to listen because what he spoke was the truth about what they are really about.

Interesting. If I heard him right he is concerned about the collapse of civilization with intellectualism that rejects God. You know that we are in trouble when minds like this are sounding the alarm. There is no more progress if the civilization collapses. Prove all things and hold fast that which is good. Knowledge based on false premises lead to false conclusions. Anything built on those conclusions have a very short shelf life historically speaking. It seems that God is involved in the education and discoveries of His people. He did say, “Without Me you can do nothing.” He also said my people die for a lack of knowledge. What you do not know can kill you. Prove God for yourself, seek Him and do no harm. Real knowledge is based on truth and God established truth. He said, “If you reject knowledge I will reject you and your offspring.” Education is serious business to God.

Excellent comments samdromeda! Any one who claims that anyone in the U.S. is in favor of absolutely no social safety net for the needy is a liar and takes you for a fool if you believe it. There is a huge difference between providing a social safety net and pursuing a policy of wealth redistribution regardless of need. Remember what Ben Franklin said: Those who would give up there liberty for safety provided by government will soon have neither! And, the Good Lord helps those who help themselves! He never promised to send us a government to take care of us (or a President…only a Savior)!

The distrust of concentrated wealth was so great that, in an extreme sentiment, Ben Franklin argued “that no man ought to own more property than needed for his livelihood; the rest, by right, belonged to the state.” You should remember that when spouting off about God and helping yourself….

This man’s understanding and desire to tell the truth about this “tea party” in America; made my day. I love this man for telling the truth, and caring about the people in this Nation, who are finally going to get health care under Obama, because the the tea party and the GOP are fear and hate-mongers. This man should go down in the history books as one of the greatest men to ever live!!!

Oh God i thank you for sending Mr.Higgins with this sound words of wisdom to let the tea partiers know that they are nothing but devils.I have ever wished someone to come out one day and tell the republicans what he has just said.i dont know whether the way they are treating President Obama with lack of respect is the same way they did to other US presidents?Obama has had tons of insults from these imps.but i bet you their plans have woefully failed.in their greatest chagrin they will see Obama reelected.Thank you Mr.President Higgins for the way you put them in shreds on the health care issue.God bless you abundantly.

Thank You Mr. Higgins, it is nice to see that there are some people who are willing to stand up to the Tea Party and say what they are truly about instead of thinking that they should be intimidated by them.

hilarious that people think this is so great. all the guy does is rant and not give the host a chance to have a discussion. and again, as you will always find, the name calling. people who are opposed to obamacare are against a government mandated, government run healthcare program. not against people having healthcare. we are against overhauling a program that needs tweaking and repairing in spots. not the “fundamental change” deems are so fond of. climb down off your soap box, irishman. take a breath.
