Hip-Hop Artist Afrika Bambaataa Named Visiting Scholar at Cornell University

Hip hop trailblazer Afrika Bambaataa has been appointed to a three year term as visiting scholar at Cornell University.

The appointment, announced Tuesday, was made by Cornell University Library’s Hip Hop Collection in conjunction with the school’s music department.

From Cornell University’s website:

Cornell University Library and the Hip Hop Collection are honored to announce the appointment of DJ Afrika Bambaataa as a visiting scholar for a three-year term.

Bambaataa will visit Cornell’s campus in Ithaca for several days each year to meet with classes, talk to student and community groups, and perform. This is the first faculty appointment for a hip hop pioneer and legend at a major university.

Cornell University Library is the home of the largest national archive on hip hop culture, documenting its birth and growth by preserving thousands of recordings, flyers, photographs, and other artifacts.

Considering Bambaataa’s role in hip-hop, this appointment is well deserved.

I commend Mr. Bambaataa on his achievement. My African-American fraternity Alpha Phi Alpha, Inc., was founded at Cornell University.

Why did u put the statement “Your comment is awaiting moderation” in my message? I did NOT put it there myself.

I have decided not to write any more messages to your blog. I despise being disrespected. As an Alpha brother, if you need to scrutinize my statement “for moderation”, then you need not receive any more.

I see you erased “your” comment that my message needed to receive “moderation” before you published it. Did you do that to make yourself seem innocent? Or is it that you did not believe my Black fraternity, the first Black fraternity Alpha Phi Alpha, was founded at Ivy League Cornell by its brilliant Black founders in 1906?6

That’s “1906″ without the 6 following “1906″. Technology works in “strange” ways, doesn’t it?
