Brutal: Video of NYPD Cop Bodyslamming Teen Sparks Outrage

Video of an NYPD police officer bodyslamming a teenager has sparked outrage among many observers.

Officer Michael O’Brien says he caught 19-year-old Sean Pagan evading a subway fare, and when O’Brien confronted Pagan and  tried to arrest him, Pagan resisted. That’s the officer’s story. But as the tape is rolling, you can clearly see Pagan standing with his hands held high up against the wall. At that point, it didn’t appear that he was offering much resistance.

There is no way to be sure, but it appears as though Pagan began to wiggle and squirm when Officer O’Brien touched his groin area during the search. That could, technically, be considered resistance, but does it warrant being bodyslammed onto the cement pavement twice?

One has a hard time believing that Officer O’Brien would approve of his son or daughter being handled this way for evading a subway fare.

After the incident, Sean Pagan spoke on his feelings regarding the incident.

“I was just in shock he really did that,” Pagan told the New York Daily News. “I‘m sure there are other kids who got the same treatment or worse treatment that wasn’t recorded.”

There has been an upsurge in reported cases of police brutality in recent weeks. The murder of an unarmed man by police in Anaheim sparked protests there, and yesterday it was reported that a young man, Chavis Carter, was shot in the back of a police squad car while handcuffed. Police say Carter must have hidden a weapon on his person that they didn’t find during the search, but the mother of the victim disagrees. She says her son was not suicidal and had already called his girlfriend to let her know he’d be calling her from jail. In addition, the gunshot wound was to Carter’s right temple, but according to his mother, Carter was left handed.

Crazy. Absolutely Crazy. I am glad that the two guys got this white racist piece of s**t on tape for the world to see how people of color are treated. Now let the law suits begin. And this creep of a police needs to be fired and arrested with assault.

Why are people who are clearly scared to handle alleged lawbreakers becoming law enforcement officers? The reason behind so much of this “cops out of control” is because these cops are scared to death of the alleged perpetrators. Get some b***s or get another job.

Another case that young people should pay attention to. The law is the law. Going through the subway without paying is considered the same thing as theft. And though this guy didn’t deserve the way the cop treated him, the case can be made the situation could’ve been avoided if he hadn’t broke the law. Of course we all know you don’t have to break the law to be accosted by the cops if you’re Black or Latino, but why invite trouble with your own actions? At the same time it looks to me like the cop should be fired. This was way too much of a overreaction for something so small.

Sorry, but this guy was resisting, twice. The fact that he was holding on to the signs, even brought it down with him. Then he gets back up while the officer tries to hold him down. He still resists when being walked away. He should have stayed down the first time he was brought down. He resisted and the video shows it!
I mostly agree that there is a lot of police brutality, but this is not the case here.

Watching the tape It looks like the cop tried to body slam the kid twice but really only suceeded in taking him down. What I actually find more troubling is that it looks more like the cop was trying to ‘cop a feel’ and then body slammed him to cover up this act

The kid wad wrong for breaking the law and evading the fare. The officer should do his job, but clearly escalated it and started body slamming the kid how never tried to run but just keep from getting hurt. Both are at fault here.

This kid put himself in this situation by evading a fare. I’d say that if it were my own son. Having said this, how do the actions of the police increase the likelyhood of cooperation from the community if people can expect to be treated like this? The police officer put himself in a very dangerous situation so close to the tracks. Risking your life, and the life of a person evading a $2.00 fare, seems a bit extreme. I would have made him pay the fare, and written him a ticket. That way, the transit authority gets it’s money, the kid gets a misdemeanor, and everybody learns something.

This was excessive and uncalled for. There are a 1001 ways that this could have been handled differently, it doesn’t take a degree in quantum mechanics to figure that one out.

I’m glad it was documented on film and made public. Unfortunately, this racist brute will probably get away with this and just laugh it off while guzzling a barrel of beer.

I wouldn’t race to judge the officer wrong in this situation. The guy was probably told to face the wall but chose to turn his head around. That’s a no no because, as slight as it may seem, it could lead to a dangerous situation for an officer making a stop like this and is a failure to cooperate. So the officer needed to assert himself and used such force as he deemed necessary to make the point that he was in charge and the guy needed to follow his directions. Everyone hates cops until they need them. If the cop was really dirty, he would have shot him. And the guy with the camera or phone who was taping this and asking the officer for his name was clearly interfering with a police officer while he was performing his duty. He’s lucky he wasn’t arrested. Policing can be a dangerous job. A police officer has the right to protect himself. And this commentary is from someone who has fought police and think that a lot of them are abusive racists. Still, f your gong to be fair, you have to put yourself in this officer’s shoes. He did what he is trained to do. I know, I am an “Uncle Tom” for holding this opinion, right?

Did it occur to anybody that maybe the young man didn’t have the fare? While the officer is roughing the teen up over a couple dollars somebody is being robbed, shot or assaulted. Frankly, I thought the search for a weapon was rather lengthy and intrusive.

The question here is what is the processing required for individuals who do not pay fares?

1- Is it a ticket/citation…and then escorted out?
2- Is it an automatic arrest?

    What is the proper response?

The officer in this video is NOT PREPARED to handle the situation and requires additional training. This is the CITY’S FAULT!

The juvenile’s family should get an attorney and sue the h**l out of the police dept for brutality. The juvenile did not deserve that type of treatment for not paying a fare.

For the sorry SOBs who support that officer’s handling of the situation….remember this…it is this type of brutality that causes people to react negatively to “police” AND PUT OFFICER’S LIVES IN DANGER….the juvenile did not put up any resistance what so ever and to condone this activity is criminal in itself!!

That kid was resisting the first time the office placed him on the ground he should have stayed down instead he would not comply to the orders that he was given. The officer was surrounded by people who could have pushed him in front of a train at any minute. Lets save the righteous indignation for real abuse. Any body with an ounce of civility could see that the kid should have went along peacefully.

We rather you just come out with your true racist feelings, rather than hiding it behind your ridiculous fake and phony comment regarding this RACIST PIG’s safety. No one was anywhere near that cop and the kid was not resisting him at all. You do not know how cops handle young black youth when they are subduing them. There is such a thing called body reaction. When your face is being pressed on the ground or cement, or your other body parts are being pressed against a wall or something, your body is going to resist, because it hurts you RACIST. I could see if he was trying to fight the RACIST, but he was not. These RACISTS do this, because they are told by their superiors, that they will only have to deal with RED TAPE, nothing criminal. And behind the scenes, they will be rewarded. You would really gag, at how many KKK members are police officers. I mean you would really be completely and utterly amazed. But the thing is that, all this does is make Black youth HATE the police. Yes, they do commit crimes. But so do white youth, and most of them get off without being arrested and they certainly are not brutalized. These racist PIGS are not going to stop this until we get a president who puts a war on RACIST PIG OFFICERS. It will take a man who has the brain power of Barack Obama and the will power of Al Sharpton to go after Racist Piglet weak police officers.

All of you closet racists on this thread can kiss my you know what. You all look and sound stupid as all h**l, trying to defend this RACIST’s actions. Yes, we all know that this petty misdemeanor that the young man attempted was wrong. But it is not criminal. All he had to do was to search him and write him a ticket like they do in EVERY SINGLE MAJOR CITY THAT HAS A METRO SYSTEM. White kids avoid paying train fares all the time. Do they get arrested and body slammed, h**l no. This RACIST is going to get his just dessert. God does not like ugly and he isn’t too fond of “smug” either.

Perhaps some one should have pushed the officer in front of a train, only there was not one there. BUT this officer was in the wrong cause if any man comes up to me (cop or not) and I’m in the same position as that kid (and I’m in my 60′s) and starts playing in MY crotch like the officer was doing. Why did he GO to the crotch? He did NOT start a pad-down at the top and go down, HE immediately went to the kid’s crotch. What did the officer want?, to find a gun in baggie pants or to COP A FEEL? This officer either more common sense, more training, or a firing! THE officer was totally wrong and mis-guided in this situation! Another similar one occurs and HE is probably going to pull his weapon and SHOOT first. I tell you the COPS are out of control in this country!

IT APPEARS THIS WHITE OFFICER WAS DELIBERATELY FEELING UP THE PRIVATE PARTS OF THIS YOUNG MAN AND HE OBJECTED AND WAS BODY SLAMMED. A LOT OF PERVERTS ARE NOW ON THE POLICE FORCE. NO CHILD IS SAFE ON THE STREETS FROM GANGS AND NOW THE POLICE.

HE TOOK TO LONG WITH HIS HANDS ON THE PRIVATE AREAS..SICK!

At the present rate of silent video recording of police actions and the negative impact of same, it won’t be long before the police just stop trying to apprehend criminals, even when they are attacking you or me. Why should they, if when they attempt to do their job, they are faced with an array of criticisms by people who know how to be nothing but negative.

Play close attention to the video and put aside biases. When he tried to put his hands down, the kid was holding onto the sign, brought it down with him. The kid was not compliant. The kid broke the law which is why he had the encounter in the first place. Everyone is a racist when a minority is caught doing something wrong.

How old is this kid 14? Officer’s all use the same excuse “he was resisting!” it took me awhile but at about :39 the “suspect” lifts his right leg as the officer is frisking or coping a feel, :40 he is busy looking at his pockets so doesn’t see exactly what the suspect just did. So training kicks in. He asks what shenanigan are you committing’? He says i flinched because it your reaching in another grown mans pockets..something of that sort maybe lets just say he grabbed his junk! (and I’m not a cop but I have watched it on TV and they usually cuff the suspect before frisking) at about :41 -:42 the officer places his hands on the suspects arms (heck lets give the officer the benefit of the doubt and lets say at this time he asks him to put his hands behind his back even though i highly doubt it) at :43 you clearly see him push his elbow forward, now if you wanted someones hands behind their back why would you jack it forward? Well it’s for one reason.. to set up the chris beniot supplex! I was Varsity wrestler this guy is a wannabe. Fire this officer!
