Black Women Going Bankrupt at Alarming Rates
As evidence that the financial gap between blacks and whites is widening, not narrowing, we need only look at U.S. Department of Education
research which shows that black women are filing for bankruptcy, and defaulting for student loans, at increased rates.
By itself, this research is not necessarily compelling, but Kulture Kritic previously reported that the median wealth for black single women is only $100:
The Insight Center for Community Economic Development issued a report on the gender gap to mark International Women’s Day, according toDemocracy Now.
The report found nearly half of all single black and Hispanic women have zero or negative wealth, meaning their debts exceed all of their assets. The median wealth for single black women is only $100; for single Hispanic women, $120. This compares to just over $41,000 for single white women.
When you marry this previous data with the new bankruptcy numbers, it becomes apparent that black women are sinking in this recession.
Another study found that many African-Americans are withdrawing retirement savings for emergency expenses, and that 50% of African Americans carried a loan balance into 2011 compared to 22% of Asians and 26% of whites. Loan sharks, such as payday lenders, are also making more money from blacks because blacks are less likely to receive traditional loans.
Most disturbing of all is that when blacks do file bankruptcy, they face bias there as well. Your Black World reports:
A new study finds that blacks are more likely to be steered into filing a more harsh form of bankruptcy than their white counterparts. Most bankruptcy filers file under Chapter 7 of the bankruptcy code because it allows them wipe out their debts within a year. For that reason, Chapter 7 tends to have a higher success rate than Chapter 13, which requires filers to use their income to pay back their debts over several years. …The evidence suggests that bankruptcy attorneys were steering blacks into a filing arrangement that was not beneficial for them because of bias.

Sorry to hear that ladies, not too long ago this were the same ladies who were touting their credit, their big houses and being independence as if they have arrived, what happen and what changed?
If a black man has a bad credit he’s been looked at as a failure
and need not apply.
Remember no condition is permanent and wish you all good luck.
Once upon a time when Black Men pointed out things, the very same things happing to Black Women in mass now, Black Men was told to go away and shut the “F” up! A lot wisdom and yes Black Men destroyed. As matter of fact the whole world it seamed got of on seeing us suffer. Well, that was then and this is now. The whole nation, all colors and gender going to suffer!!!
I am not surprised! Until we learn how to budget, pay off credit cards at the end of the month when the bill comes in, and don’t put anything on a credit card unless we can pay it off when the bill comes in, stop having babies we can’t afford, stop giving our money to men that don’t want to work just so we can say “we have a man” and above all else pay ourselves first, which means get yourself a savings account, a 401k, an IRA, an education, and stop trying to out dress each other, until we do the above things, we will always be filing chapter 11 or 13.
AMEN!
Thank you very much. You hit it on the head. I know there are other reasons for this but some are over spending too impress.
This is sad, but its not the End result. There are opportunities out there… Check out MCA Leverage.
Stop trying to live above your means, period. Stop trying to look like Beyonce. $400 weaves are NOT what’s “hot”, but money at the end of the month certainly is. Pay off the cards, stop shopping and getting things you can’t afford. God help and bless us all–we all need wisdom for every area of our lives.
Black women are in trouble because the spirit of karma will not be denied.
As an educated professional blackmale I learned a long time ago that black women are hired first because white men want to flirt with them. And many sistah’s are happy to flirt with white men to get what they want
Second, many black women play the “baby daddy” game with as many men as they can so that can get the support checks.
Third, many black women get support from their parents and other family members, ie. free child care, help with mortgage down payments.
Fourth, many black women will choose a married man, down-low brother, or “player” who offers financial assistance over a single man who does not play the game.
Finally, many sistah’s spend their free time mocking God. They are in church every Sunday, playing innocent after a long week of gaming everybody to keep their lifesytyle.
Lauryn Hill is a prime example…
Richmond Halls is an African American gentleman from Cross, South Carolina. Cross is an unincorporated community located in Berkley County and was once home to the now defunct Cross Trucking, Inc.. Halls of Cross employed (120) one hundred-twenty people and is the brainchild of an elderly African American gentleman, with a fifth grade education named Richmond Halls. Halls reads, writes and comprehends very poorly. Upon the death of Richmond Halls brother – Halls of Cross, Inc. suffered it’s demise as the brother handled business aspects. Halls handled the physical hard core work. Richmond Halls turned to an attorney who took the lead in bad business decisions for Halls of Cross and that attorney died in February of 2012. Before his death, the attorney – also a good friend – advised Richmond Halls to create another company and transfer it to his wife which occurred 2 months before filing bankruptcy. Thus, the birth of RNC Trucking, Inc..
The deceased attorney also introduced Richmond Halls to two bankruptcy attorneys. One currently represents him and the other is the bankruptcy trustee.http://www.blacknationtaskforce.com/2012/08/please-sign-for-richmond-halls.html
Black women are broke because they give their money to the churches when most of them are single.
If you remain in formal education until you are 27 and single you have a different track to run on. If you decide to load your life with children while White women are in college you get this result.
The statistics are an aggregate, not applying to any individual. We applaud when a Black woman graduates college at 33. Then she can not get untracked because the opportunities go the mobile individual able to go where the market demands are. Is that fair? Life is not fair, but it will have consequences. Stop applauding the dropouts. That is a slave mentality.
Hmmmm Stop hating’. Some of this discussion is way over simplified. Yes, Blacks get the worst end of every economic stick. We pay more for nearly everything, from interest rates on mortgae loans, cars, etc. U. S. News and World reported a few years ago on who gets the worse deal when purchasing a car. Guess, African Americans, worse than any ethnic or racial group, women worse than men, among women of color, AA women the WORST! We have less but pay more, insurance companies do it, nearly every entity that can will do this. What gender/racial group benefited MOST from Affirmative Action? BINGO! WHITE WOMEN! Black men were next, but as black women got Halle- fied, Beyoncefied, you know, Chris Rock’s “Good Hair”, big butts and juicy lips started being vogue and Sistahs girls started entering higher Ed. at a greater %age than our brothers (by design), employers went under cover! IT’s easier to get rid of a women than a man, white women usually side with white men or any man and are easy to shut-up, f—- up and be taken care of. Black women, “twofers,” can be counted TWICE on EEOC reporting; 1 time for being a women (unless Nursing or PreK-12 teaching); counted again in racial group! If they’re a Jew, have a physical disability, well we get the picture LOUD AND CLEAR. We may not be the last to be hired but African Americans are the first to be canned. We do tend to prefer Gucci to Goodwill; Cadilacs to Chevies, etc. When single Black women lose their jobs, their relatives are often in the same 1 pay check from welfare too! Rev. Jessie said that I didn’t. As a single Black women and/or mother, you lose that 6 figure or close to 6 figure J – O- B, if you’re married husband loses his or you’re divorced, you go from $1500-3000 a week to unemployment, $300 per week……even with 24 months of living expenses, and still unable to replace the lost income! If you work 2 or 3 part-time jobs, once you earn over that $300, you get $00.00! In these times with high unemployment, American Romneyism Greed, our jobs are gone. If whites are fighting for a living wage, we black folks are in real trouble. African Americans, not all, but some, will lose their homes, etc. and once you’ve been unemployed or ne’er underemployed, you may have no choice but to file for bankruptcy. It is often our poor budgeting, but then Donald Trump, Patricia Kluge (Google her!!!!!) Donald bought her winery in Virginia a while back after SHE, once labeled the riches woman in the U.S., belly dancer, married a much older BILLONAIRE!!! POINT:She and Donald T. filed bankruptcy! NOW HOW CAN YOU LOSE ALL THAT MONEY?????
Now at our “Po folk” level, the other 98 or 99% bankruptcy tend to looks and feels a LITTLE different, huh????!
Sistahs don’t usually have lots of friends like Donald, Gates, Jobs, Warren Buffet, etc……. Don’t gloat! A few bad investments, every fund you have losing, even those who budgeted and planned sometimes have NO . KARMA, YOU REAP WHAT YOU SOW, MAYBE, cause bad stuff does DOES HAPPEN TO GOOD PEOPLE. Sometime it means you have to file bankruptcy and yes, African Americans our steered towards a Chapter that may NOT be the right one. But Sistahs, stand TALL, keep your head high. We’re HARDLY ONE GENERATION FROM WHAT WE SAW IN THE MOVIE, “The Help.” We are our brother and sisters keeper. So you go girls! Keep the faith, ’cause this too shall pass. “Let your haters be YOUR MOTIVATORS.”
Well said sister! Thanks!
What is median wealth for black women $100; what does that mean? Break it down, so e understand. I filed a Chapter 13 when I was working; I still paid my bills; I filed a Chapter 7 or 11 since I retired; I was way over-my-head and could not pay; and could not afford the property where I lived. I put my Pride to rest; and moved on. I get 2 Pension checks and SS; because I have worked all my life; I just mismanaged money and did not save when I was working; I have no regrets; I live very well and I feel I am worth more tha $100. The only thing that disturbs me is everywhere I go; there are no Blacks working; all other nationalities have the jobs; and they help each other and we don’t. We are Haters toward each other; male and female; we use each other; I hope and pray that this will change.
There is a lot of pain from the years of racism and we don’t have the power to affect the cause of our problems so we cannibalize each other. This is only a point from which we must set the direction we must go.
Thanks Gladis. You are on the right road now. Too live well doesn’t mean owning everything! You have too have peace in life as well and happiness. May you continue too live a good life.
I am in agreement w/ u. Also, education is the KEY factor. I have gotten a payday loan and car title loan because there. NO ONE in my entire family (immediate & extended) that could help me. Let’s not take everything face value like its written in stone. There’s nothing wrong in taking out a loan from your 401K. The penalty in that is when the loan is a HARDSHIP LOAN. I rather take out a GENERAL loan from my 401K because I’m paying MYSELF back. The interest that’s charged is not going to a bank or some other financial institute, itself going in MY 401K. So there’s nothing wrong with that. Payday & car title loans SHOULD BE for emergencies & urgent matters only. Again, nothing is wrong with not wanting to take out a loan from the bank and having to list collateral, etc. Pay it off and keep moving. Society has made it so that if u don’t have credit you are a bad person.NOT SO!!! Credit is just another form of mandated imprisonment. Why is society not patting those people on the back who choose to stay debt free and pay for everything cash (the legal way)? Because the economy is not getting a part of the money, that’s why. Brothers, my hat off to all of you that have struggled to stay above waters while taking care of your responsibilities. Sisters, kudos to you for Bring strong and not using your ability to have children as a means to get finances. But to us all, education is the key. When your current degree is not helping, go back and get another one. Recently, my child’s teacher told me that he (Caucasian man) went back to school to get his teaching degree because he couldn’t land a job in his field of interest. He has a MBA degree. There’s nothing wrong in continuous education. LASTLY, have your own mind & factual evidence. Just because an article says “Black are more in debt than whites” doesn’t mean that its true. Statistics is just a survey in a regional area or by some other factor. You can’t judge the entire world based on one small area. Use that type of info as insight not the ultimate truth.EVERY SITUATION IS DIFFERENT. Live a healthy & happy life. Prepare for the future but don’t live today for the future. Save & spend. Be Happy because tomorrow is not promised.
Well if Romney wins, Black MEN & Women will suffer. This Country never had our ancestors or us in mind, so don’t feel or think they will attempt to help our communities in the future.! African Americans had better begin to due ” without help” because the future will be difficult for all, especially African Americans.
Romney wins we suffer, Obama wins we suffer! Lets stop kidding ourselves! We need to come up with another plan, this political plan is not working for us!
Brain,
You are so right! If your financial well being hinges on who wins the presidential race you are in trouble. A minister broke it down wonderfully regarding keeping up with the Jones and comparing yourself to other or what they have.
Try to avoid comparing yourself to others, because in doing so “you compare your insides to their outsides”!
This means that you compare what you know about yourself to what you don’t know about them! Save your money. If that vacation takes a big chunk out of your bank account, just don’t go!
Blessup yourself,
Rode B.
Amen!
We all have to take Financial Literacy Classes,it’s very hard to Budget Money when there is not enough money to Budget periiod…However,we do have some very Successful Black Women, who know how to handle their finances….Remember Wall St. Auto Industry and Banking Bailouts? It’s Ok,better days ahead….Vote-Vote-Vote-Obama 2012!!
Okay this is going out to all real brother and sisters
Straight up ? Now is not the time to gloat or rub in the pain of this situtation. Now is the time to UNIFY.
Let’s get this straight ?
The money system we live under is an updated slave type dependence system. We know that both genders have been and are being played to the left by ole massa.
How come nobody has ever decided to create liberation currency and create a new liberation value system.
Yes some brothers are hurt and have been betrayed because of this trickery. But now is the time to rise above all the hurt and pain and focus on UNITY $$$$.
I had a business for 5 yeaars, closed it and filed Chapter 7. That was 7 years ago. Since then, I’ve bought a second property. I rent out the first property which pays both house notes plus insurances and taxes. I’ve also started a second business in addition to a part time business I’ve always done. I also have a full time job. Bankruptcy didn’t stop me from doing anything. I cleared my debts and moved on. Since we want to compare to “other demographics” here, I did exactly what they do. I used bankruptcy as a tool and not a permanent death sentence for the rest of my life where Im filled with shame, depression and anxiety like all these downtrodden, pity party stories that are offered in Black media.
We as Blacks allow every instance to become a drag on our lives and total being. You don’t see such stories in “other” media because they don’t have a “victim mentality.” We need to get educated on how this system works and wear it out. “Others” do, get educated and move on with their lives instead of playing the victim role and writing these statistical death sentence stories. It doesn’t matter who is in office, we are wage slaves if depending upon a pay check from another entity. If I lost my job todaay, Id have something to fall back on and would have to try and find healthcare coverage at the most.
Im one of those sistahs who stayed in school, got her degrees and came out into the workforce. I am lucky I went to school 7 or more years, got 3 degrees and all on academic scholarship or charged a few fees on my credit card so that I wasn’t saddled with loans. There are ways to make it but stop listening to this “Black Pitty Party, Woe-Is-Us” c**p. Learn and work the system like whites, Jews, Asians and a lot of other Hispanics are doing.
I read the article and all the feedback. I agree that there are many deeper problems that are controlling our behaviors and attitudes that work against us behind the scenes – this includes everyone not part of super wealth. But many problems are our fault and we need to face up to it. Debt from credit cards and fancy cars are our individual choices – we chose to live like the wealthy ones when we have not. Dangle a credit card in front of us and we will sell “common sense” to the “prince of material things.” We should stop criticizing people who don’t have as much because we encourage them to keep up with the material things. I use to feel so bad because I didn’t own a Coach purse and I felt I loss favor and respect for what I could not afford. We put so many folks in an uncomfortable place and hammer their self esteem – so they try to keep up with the “what haves” which is a smoke screen. Use common sense, not credit cards — appreciate what you have and work for the extra. Do not sell your soul to debt. The pressure of debt is not worth our peace of mind and spirit. We as a people will fail because of bad choices and low self esteem.
I cannot believe what I am ready 95% of you are so far off course. So what you made it, some have not and still trying. So what you go at degree, some wanted a degree, but lift did not allow that, So what, It is what it is.
My God!!!! We all need help. And yes I am a working woman, have worked since I was 12 years of age, went to college for nursing but because of life growing up I had to give up that dream to help my parents and my siblings.
My God!!!!! We all need help.
No rejection here.
@mnyama ~ say it again girl! Thank you for the positive. We need to uphold ourselves.
@anonymous ~ sounding a little bitter, like you’ve been rejected many times. I apologize for your pain.
@Gladis …when the statistics report the mean (average) wealth for a black woman is $100, it is simply refering to if she died and all debts were settled then her decedents (kids, etc) would get a $100. Gladis, Im happy that your stable and have pretty good income but its not about income or cash flow. Its truely about if you were to die what value in cash or equity would be left to your children. You see african americans think only in the short term (i.e. monthly cash flow) but there is a big picture. Creating stability in our community must start with passing on wealth or leaving behind something valuable so that our kids have a great start to accomplish even more. Whites set up trust funds, leave behind homes fully paid for, have cash set asside for college. These things allow the child to build wealth quickly because they don’t have to take on much debt to succeed. We as blacks have to get a loan for almost everything…no matter how good the ideal we rarely have any funds.
A great example of how success works is look at RUNS House (MTV) tv show. Most of the kids from this show are successful because they have the money to go out and invest in their ideals or skills. Of course there’s is pretty rare but the concept is still valid for regular house holds. LEAVE SOMETHING BEHIND FOR YOUR KIDS. STOP SPENDING EVERYTHING ON CLOTHES AND A LIFESTYLE.
Give Y’all votes to Calvin Barack Coolidge Obama 2012 for more of the above.
I can so relate to many comments in this post, especially those by EBrooks. I have been humiliated and ridiculed because I don’t own a “Louie” purse/bag of any kind, because I don’t drive an expensive car (with it’s corresponding $500 a month payment), and because I buy my clothing at discount stores, instead of “grandstanding” and “paying full price.”
And I’ve worked hard every day of my life, too! Forty-one years to be exact — I started my first full time job two weeks out of high school (age 17), and I’ve been working full time ever since — with only six months off in 41 years – - first for surgery in 1972, and secondly, for childbirth in 1977.
Black folk ridicule my lifestyle; white people say it’s smart. Hopefully, I’ll be able to retire from working full time before I am 62 years old…..and let’s see who “ridicules” me then!
When you set up somebody for failure, how is it that a person of color, Hispanic or anyone from poor backgrounds measure up to bank accounts of middle class white Americans? I would disagree because when I worked I save my money in IRA ($100 per pay check) and when left the job or unemployed, I had enough to survive on until I found another job, or if I wanted to stay home awhile. This ad does not apply to all Black women. I wish that these would stop putting black women into some categorical distribution line with privileged populations. This article indicates that the median wealth for single black women is only $100; for single Hispanic women, $120. This compares to just over $41,000 for single white women. Should not it be on the grounds of how black women are doomed by systems to stay on welfare, and given pat on back to have babies out of wedlock, settle without marriage, and struggle on her own to feel like she is strong. What happen to the black men? Why black women are carrying all this weight and not given help by her own mates? How far back do we need to go to justify wrongs of reasons why these ads are making attempts to send our black men to the greener grass with this bias ads?
This article only shines a light on the Willie Lynch letters. Will Lynch in 1712 describes how to keep a people enslaved and economically depended rather than self sufficient. I pray that our people eyes will be opened and we can be a success story rising from the ashes.
@Anonymous why are you so upset with black Women? You seem to have a strong dislike toward us. Its upsetting to me because I feel that whatever happened to you had to be awful.
I will pray for you my Anonymous Brother because your wound is deep.
@cindie…I get “checked” and the * side eye* for driving my old car and living where I do but I like the freedom that comes from not having all that c**p and car/ house notes that look good to others but cant afford. You keep doing you and keep the lifestyle that best suits you and not the superficial crowd that goes into debt just to impress others….
this scheme is a bust , we have been muted from getting this information out to the public since 2005 , and it was designed to affect African Americans and Latino’s mainly but they also included whites into the design to keep the issue from warranting a civil rights violation lawsuit . i have had attempts made on my life in order of keeping this scheme muted . i have also made a second attempt on this very page as the first one i made was deleted or not posted . the scheme has many other included affects such as police profiling used as a diversion , gentrification , educational and economic tricks to disallow people of color certain advantages . i’m not going to put out all of the methods of the design here since the first one was some how deleted but i will say for those who are gifted or educated enough to understand reading through what i’m about to prove is to google the invisible contracts and the armen condo letter and see the design and the person who created it . i just hope people can understand what they read .
any one looking to see the documented proof as to who and what this person and whom they’re connected to must contact me at frazierdonald49@yahoo.com and just to let you know , we are trying to get to the associated press since i and others have been muted by the media here . the designer of this scheme is now ninety years old and still living . and as i’ve mentioned on my first attempted post , they have made a failed attempt on my life to keep this information muted . i was a business owner and has driven tractor trailers for over thirty five years and they sought to destroy my business and career after it was demonstrated that i had found and discovered them and exposed how they made this work . they have the backing of many political officials and have secret contract of police departments who aid as cover and protection . i have the documents as well as whistle blowers who worked on the inside of many of the unlicensed corporations that did banking on a regular basis . and the documents of the son of the person who created this massive scheme , they have people connected to them that would blow your mind , doctor, lawyers , judges , and too many to list . they are at us and people must wake up fast .
people please stop feeding into all these media statistics and stop generalizing..all black people are not this…we do have it hard grant it but as a whole we have also been resilient…or we would not still be in existence…learn the system use it to your advantage and stop living in fear….media and all these statistics are to promote fear and cause you to fail…lots of people go thru financial problems… most of the time it is when your young….let us move on and stop badgering each other ….this is not a black male thing or a black female thing….we are hurting big time!!!!!!!!!!!!! but we are survivors so lets survive…do what we can do and keep it moving…i have been working since i was 14yrs old…i have had my ups and downs and have taken care of my mother children and husband …so what ..bad and good cycles happen…concentrate on the good enhance it and learn from the bad….IT IS CALLED LIFE’S CYCLE..LIVE IT…EMBRACE IT…AND RECOVER AND PROCEED FORWARD….GOD SPEED…BLESSINGS TO ALL.
I want to encourage all of the above contributors to this insightful discussion to purchase my memoir: “From Dunbar to Destiny: One Woman’s Journey Through Desegregation and Beyond.” In it, you will learn how my home, my schools, and my indomitable spirit pushed me to overcome so many adversities: poverty, divorce, and racism. I hope all women who read it will be inspired to keep moving forward, taking care of themselves first (“put the air mask on yourself first, then attend to others) financially, spiritually, and physically. We can all get through dark passages by seeking out opportunities– no matter how small–and casting off fear which is the ultimate bondage.
This is the first thing to do do not say poor me. Start a group pick up your bottom lip and start thinking of all the ways you can as a group make money from baking cookies to making bread, use your God Given Gift to make money. Save, save and save. Turn down wants and buy needs. Come on when I look back to what Lucinda(cinda) Harriet, Easter George Ann and Eula went through you can make it. Dont take care of no lazy men. These were my Grands, great grands and great great grands. MMy mother Dorothy could do any thing from cooking to cutting hair. Everytime somebody mentionsomething I say mother did it. Look within yourselves and find out what you are good with. If you readn this I am 67 and it was important to go back and learn about these wonderful women and how their lives influenced mine. I am a former business owner for 18 yers my husband built the business through faith and prayers with the help of God. God is a keeper. He will never fail you. Go in love and peace.
Wealth and lack there of is a spiritual issue.
You are what you think and believe.
The rest is mental masturbation, fault finding and bull!
everybody is correct, except that crack about giving your money to the church. it’s called tithing fool! we are in the best covered up depression in this country’s history. but, if you tithe, pray, and forget about peer pressure we’ll be alright. the other thing is that too many of us are single and it’s extra hard now to enjoy life without a partner. our social system is broken, we’re supposed to be marrying each other and working towards our goals with a partner if you can find one. black men and women are so hard on each other now. We must do better on this!
Antonio, you are the picture of hate and jeolouscy pull yourself together (look at her big picture Toni She could have been your mother who is loosing- or your girlfriend -or sister. Is that all that you can see. Take yourself out of the picture. Pretend that she is someone that you love. Would you feel the same way? i read some of your comments. I am ashamed of you. You sound like a bounch of crabs in a barrow. If I can not make it, then you should not make it. Stop the war between black man and woman. At one time men ruled. Now is different. You see that woman has a brain and you don’t like it. (MEN and WOMAN) show only hate for each other who has advanced . Grow up and band together as a people. When you turn around and look, you will both be beaten down with your own stupid pride and ego war fair against each other. This is not about you. The world will leave you behind while you are fighting war fair between black woman and black man. Why don’t you sleeping people wake up. It is not about about you and your ego. Be a long term planner. along time thinker. YOU ARE ENTERING A NEW WORLD THAT HAS CHANGED. CHANGE WITH IT. Open your smart eyes and see what is aroung you. The world is changing. If you don’t change with it, you will die. TRUST ME. Stop loving things, objects and love your people who is all that you have . In the end, all that you will have is a high sociaty bounch of fools that can not connect. Believe this is your last chance. We as a people are going to die. It has been planned a long time ago.
DEFAULTING AT STUDENT LOANS BECAUSE, OUR PIECE OF ISH JOBS ARE TRYING TO PAY US 2 DOLLARS AN HOUR. THEN MANY OF US HAVE A CHILD TO FEED ALSO. THEY WANT TO MAKE IT HARD AS POSSIBLE, THEN BLAST STORIES LIKE THIS TO MAKE IT SEEM LIKE WE ARE LOSING; HOWEVER, WE ARE WINNING BY LEAPS AND BOUNDS.
YEP, I was fooled by my friend too; however,
I’ve never spent lots of money on material things.
It’s just a waste.
All women need to realize, he’s probably got 2 or 3 other women’s names and numbers in his phone every night.
We need to be aware, these men MOST not all,
just want their two minutes, we wastin’ money on
make-up, expensive shoe’s and clothing for nothing.
When will some Black people (far too many) stop with the over generalizations and stereotypes they spout against their own race, as is the case with many of these comments? Our self hatred is pathological. When I read Black blogs generally, they typically include so many negative and racist comments that are against Blacks I feel as though I could be reading from a white supremacy based media outlet!
It’s important to keep in mind that black women and other women of color, especially those in low-wage earning jobs, are struggling to make ends meet, keep their children safe and educated and provide for them during this very difficult economic period. They are not buying fancy cars, paying for expensive weaves and taking vacations they can’t afford. In fact, the women of Color Policy Network presented a paper on Retirement preparedness for women of color that shows how difficult it is for women in the lower end of the labor market to save anything at anytime. I hope those of you who felt the need to disparage black women will take time to read the paper, which shows the problem and makes some suggestions for policy changes that will benefit all of us in the long term. The WOMEN OF COLOR NETWORK presented the paper to the Department of Labor in August, 2010. Here is the website:

A lot of African-American women make bad choices. They have children to early and without benefit of marriage, they lack proper education for jobs, they date jail house men with no future and they spend money on every fad.
Invest in you, save, stay in school, get a proper mate and you don’t need every new pair of jeans. You don’t need a new weave do and nails weekly etc.
Don’t have a baby without a husband. Read the Sunday paper, you see 1 African-American woman getting married for every 20 white women…think about it. If he does not want to marry you, don’t have his baby.
If you want a baby and don’t find a mate at least be prepared to raise the child.
I don’t see women “HIT!” with bankruptcy, As much as they have debts, loans, interest pymnts like everyone else.. Filing for chapters 7 or 13 is merely an option those particular women chose. Just like anyone chooses the responsibility of a debt. This story gives a sense of victimization..
