Why is Bishop Eddie Long Holding a “Spirit & Truth” Conference?

When I heard this week that Bishop Eddie Long was holding a “Spirit & Truth” Conference, I had to sit back in my chair for a second to think. As my eye brow wrinkled into my forehead, I asked myself, “what is there that’s truthful about Eddie Long on any level?”
We know that Long has been accused by several young men in his church so he could sleep with them.
We know that Long told his congregation that he would make sure the truth eventually came out about the allegations.
We know that later on, Long never revealed the truth and instead settled the case behind closed doors, using millions of dollars in church money.
We know that Long was able to get s*x from the boys under the guise of being a surrogate father and role model, which led to him being respected by the community.
We know that Long was the first to march in the streets against homosexuality, but was sleeping with these very same men when his wife wasn’t looking.
What in the holy h**l is truthful about that?
I stand in agreement with one of Long’s accusers, Centino Kemp, who expressed his outrage on Twitter about the audacity of Long to hold this kind of conference. Says Kemp:
“The Bahamas Christian Council needs to keep New Birth out of the Bahamas,” he said.
“How the h**l that man feel that he can have a SPIRIT & TRUTH conference 2012 in THE BAHAMAS you really got f*cking b***s.”
Kemp is right – does take a lot of f*cking b***s to claim yourself to be a representative of spirit & truth when you actually represent the exact opposite. Not only should Bishop Long be ashamed, but anyone who considers attending such a conference should be equally embarrassed. A so-called “spiritual leader” who brings innocent young boys under his wing so he can sleep with them cannot guide your spirit to heaven. Instead, following this kind of leader will only guide your spirit to the same h**l in the afterlife that these boys experienced on earth.
Sometimes, this stuff is just ridiculous.

Boyce is a PhD, therefore he title is Dr. Watkins whether or not y’all want to accept it. Eddie is Bishop, he’s just crooked. He feels he’s gotta try and save face with his followers. Give him a few more years, if that, and he’ll be sexing up some other brutha. You haven’t heard any women saying he approached. This dude is as gay as they come and he’s in total denial. Things that Eddie Long have done is the reason why many especially men don’t attend Church today. How do you expect a man that’s claim to been sent by God to teach when all long he’s doing things that’s not to Gods teaching.
God forgives and is the final judge. If things are so wrong in church you better go there so you can straigten them out. Stop point fingers if you can’t do the work.

There is not anything that can be done, that will stop these bible thumpers from worshiping their god, Eddie Long. If these nuts, want to give all their money to this fool, let them do it, it’s their money. But, the government, should eliminate his tax exempt status, and investigate his financial accounts. The nuts, that follow this fool, would drink poison kool aid, for this fool, just like the followers of Jim Jones did. Some black people, are the most stupid, and gullible there are in the world. All you need to do to dupe them, is mention the name Jesus, and shout hallelujah, and they will give you everything they have, and follow you to the ground. Hallelujah!

For some reason, people neglect certain scripture in the Word of that reflects the fact that all men have fallen short of the glory of God and that there is not near one of us who have not sinned.
It pains me to read the replies and hear how quickly we are to judge when truly if we didn’t go too far, matter fact if we stayed right on our own front porches we’d each find sin in our own individual lives.
Furthermore, as a former member of Bishop Eddie L. Long’s congregation who left prior to all of the allegations, I can truly say that my former pastor has a love for his flock and God.
Should he stop worshipping God in “Spirit & Truth” according to John 4:23 “But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.” Does making a mistake abdicate one’s responsibility from worshiping God in spirit and truth. Should he just quit serving God, because man has a problem with him? Should he be a God-pleaser or Man-pleaser…hmmm. My bible teaches me that it is not what we do that makes us righteous, but what Jesus did. The last time I check the blood of Jesus took care of past, present, and future sins. So why keep putting Bishop Long on the cross, when Jesus has already taken care of his sin, like he has yours and mine??? Is Jesus’ blood not powerful enough ???
People we all need a Savior, and His name is Jesus Christ. I would hope that no one who is making the negative comments are Christians. Our main goal is to build the body of Christ up, not tear each other down. This is unproductive and destructive, there are many more important fights that we should be fighting rather determining whether a man of God wants to have a “Spirit & Truth” conference, regardless if you see some sort of hypocrisy in it. Pray about it, if it concerns you that much. God holds the kings heart in his hand and he knows how to turn it. It is NOT and repreat another man’s job to tear a man of God down.
We are truly are living in a day where no one is without sin, and if you are, honey go on and cast the first stone. I am more that certain you won’t qualify, because none of us can. As Jesus told the woman at the well, “Where are your accusers??? Did even one of them condemn you?” There was NONE. So I say to each of you. Look at your own lives before you determine you have enough say as to another man is righteous before God or if he is leading his sheep to the slaughter, let each man work out his own salvation before God with much fear and trembling. Believe me at the judgement seat of Christ, it will be due season for each us.
In the meantime, let’s keep our focus on JESUS who is the author and finisher of our faith. Jesus, not Bishop Eddie Long, I’m sure you have enough dirt of your own to consider.
You made a very well prepared comment on the Eddie Long “Sprit & Truth Conference”. I can agree that we need to stop bashing Eddie L. Long and employ some Critical Thinking concerning what he does. I believe Eddie Long is a perfect example of Master Scam Artist. He is brilliiant at running a scam, as is many of his fellow churchmen, but being called by God, I don’t think so. He could not be Bishop Eddie L. Long If his members were capable Critical Thinking.
The Word of God is true. Ppl would rather believe a lie than the truth. Innocent men don’t hide behind closed doors. How long will gullibe ppl allow themselves to be seduced by lies…..Unbelievable!
People want a person to follow. They will follow anyone who makes them feel good. The truth is that these people would follow Eddie Long if he killed someone. We blacks unfortunately seem to be more prone to religious con men. I predict that Eddie Long is going to do something so stupid that even the lemmings who follow him will eventually leave him.

The sad thing is that at one point, Eddie Long, like King Saul probably was called by God to shepherd. Then he went left. Then like Saul, God’s Spirit left him. Now here he is & he won’t step down, repent & be restored.

@ Very…Whoo…..Everything God said in His Word (the bible) is the truth. We are all sinners and through His son Jesus Christ we have forgiveness of our sins if we believe in Him and do as His word says. Jesus did shed His blood on the cross for ALL OF US. He died once for all (of us.) If we truly repent of our sins He will forgive us. God does NOT lie. God CANNOT lie because He is holy, righteous, good and in Him is no sin. If three was sin found in Him then He would be a hypocrite because He would tell us not to sin whilst He did it Himself. That’s why its important to put your faith in God and not man. King David repented of his sin and confessed it. Read Psalm 51. God still loved him but hated the sin. God is also a vengeful God…and righteously so. David was punished for his sin.
As for this preacher and others like him if he too does not repent, the righteous, vengeful side of God will deal with him as well. No matter what we’ve done wrong , with God there is forgiveness. We just have to repent and try not to do it again. That does not mean we may not face consequences depending on what we’be done like jail, etc. There is NO SIN TOO BIG OR BAD that God won’t forgive if you turn to Him in sincerity. Anyone who tells you or has told you differently IS A LIAR and a false prophet. That person has not been sent by God but by the devil and will have to give an account to God Himself.

I agree with LadyLovely…since Bishop Long has not been fired from his job but forgiven…he must continue with performing his job. Apparently, he may have engaged in homosexual acts but he preached against homosexuality. if i get all caught up with adultery I still now it’s wrong…as a preacher i can’t stand in the pulpit and say it’s okay for some to commit adultery. He must still function in the whole capacity of his ministry. Commonsense and some legal issues should prevent him from ministry involving male teens.

The sad part about Long’s transgressions is the poor parishioners that held on to this mans very word as truth, and now are wondering in spiritual confusion. You know, the folks who work hard to help build a ministry because they blindly believe in their leader, and forget about that it is God that they should be putting their faith in not this man. And when he falls and surely those of us preachers who get full of ourselves and forget about who it was who called us will fall, we inflict so much damage to those folks who maybe be spiritually weak and walk away from the church broken and often bitter. Those are the folk we don’t hear about when the Eddie Long of the church are not honest. I am believer that every pastor should sit down for 40 days just to reflect on what it’s is that God has for him to do. The time should not be used to go to the Bahamas, he should come down from that lofty perch called a pulpit and sit back where God called him from the congregation amongst the people. Long is either stupid or arrogant not to realize the collateral damage of his conduct, and I believe its the latter. As ministers of the His Gospel we are commissioned with a great responsibility to”feed His sheep.” Feeding is not just by teaching the Word at Bible study or on Sunday morning, but allowing God’s Word to glow through our example. No, i am not judging my brother thats God’s job…..I just know there are some good folks who have been wounded by his conduct. Jeremiah 12: 10 warns the pastor of the damage he can inflict; ” Many pastors have destroyed my vineyard, they have trodden my portion under foot, they have made my pleasant portion a desolate wilderness.”
This guy looks gay and he lives in Atlanta the #1 gay city for African Americans and now #2 in the entire United Stated overall next to only San Francisco. Therefore I am not at all surprised.

It was up to Bishop Long’s congregation to reprove his conduct, for him to ask for forgiveness and repent to God in front of the congregation. It appears none of these things happened and he moved and swayed enough of the office holders and officials in charge of running something in the church to aide in his vain glorification of self to overlook his discresion. Remember Pastor Creflo Dollar said”he only had a little wreck” and used his pulpit to chastise those who wanted to leave Long’s church and told them don’t run over to his. With that backing by Dollar and his tying scripture into Long’s infidelity as he is to big of a wheel for anbody to put a wrench in it other than God. So the people I guess prayed, that he will again not strayed and so they stayed and he continues to get paid and everyone else get played. Amen
why are people still following him?! I’ve come to the conclusion that some people know he did it and they don’t care. But there are also a large majority that actually believe him when he says he is innoncent. they probably think that by continuing to stay with him, they are showing some type of loyalty.

First, regarding Eddie Long: This is a pastor, who used his money and influence to seduce young men AFTER throwing a full scale barrage of insults at all homosexuals. His hypocracy has no limits! He has not CONFESSED, OR ASKED FOR FORGIVENESS! He just goes on spending his congregations’ money, and plans these mega-seminars!! He’s a jive-a*s hustler who has a sweet spot for young boys, period! Just because people in church mess up,and some leaders mess up doesn’t prove anything.church folks mess up while they are committing themselves to a process to try and do better.People who aren’t even trying to learn or do what’s right don’t fail.
that said the man has achieved the title of Bishop according to the by-laws of his denomination,and has earned and deserves that title.
He has,however,been accused of the kind of horrible act against defenseless boys from which horror no man has been known to recover.This man should sit.Even without proof,several accusations should create enough shadow on the ministry itself to warrant a thorough housecleaning.He can still repent and retain his favor with the Lord.He just shouldn’t be preaching.
vcr listen,Ive been guilty of many of the sins of which you speak.I was a womanizer and drug addict while a training minister in service.This went on for over 20 years off and on until God removed those desires from me,and gave me back my freedom.Although I never hit on church women (I liked my women fast and worldly),I often feel bad for things I said or did that aided the devil in downgrading any woman God created. and while I am confident that most of these women don’t even remember me much,I pray the effects of my behavior isn’t permanent.
If Bishop does repent,and I hope and pray he does,or has.I don’t see much hope for the boys he anally raped.To this day,I have never heard of one case of a man being sodomized and going on to live a healthy and normal (by any means),happy life.Im not saying this is a miracle God can’t perform,Im just saying He hasn’t yet.and it’s gotta be 150 times worse when you’re just a boy.
