Yvette Carnell: Rev. Al Sharpton’s 5 All Time Worst Failures

by Yvette Carnell

Rev. Al Sharpton is set to deliver the eulogy for Rodney King, and I have no idea why since Sharpton has had enough awful moments in his career to demonstrate that he shouldn’t be at the forefront of anything. Since you probably don’t believe me, I thought I’d take a moment to list the five worst Sharpton failures ever.

5. Al Sharpton’s not a journalist, and when he first took the helm at MSNBC’s Politics Nation, it showed. In fact, it still shows. He looked like the muppet Swedish Chef in this segment:

4. Taking Bill O’Reilly to dinner at Sylvia’s soul food restaurant was a publicity stunt,  made all the worse by O’Reilly using the Harlem field trip as a way to caricature black folk. Remember how shocked O’Reilly said he was that  ”there wasn’t one person in Sylvia’s who was screaming, ‘M-Fer, I want more iced tea.’ ” That insult to black people everywhere was made possible by none other than Al Sharpton.

3. Rev. Al Sharpton went to the White House, with pseudo-black leaders in tow, to discuss a black agenda with President Obama. Instead of getting getting President Obama to commit to an agenda, Sharpton and his posse were sent out in a snowstorm to tell black America that one boat lifts all ships. Later, he would announce that he wouldn’t be criticizing the President – at all.

2. It’s a bit difficult to fight for the rights of the same people that you’re trying to sell predatory title loans to. This was, obviously, a mishap.

1. You already know….  FRAUD.

boyce, yvette..another asinine article to play on our emotions to increase traffic on your sites…how low will you go to make a dollar?

boyce do you think we don’t see you have created new sites, kulture and black blue dog to go along with ybw to make more profit?

nothing wrong with making money..but do you have to exploit, manipulate and divide black people on your sites with senseless articles written to play on the emotions of black people to get us to react by blogging so you can contract more white advertisers?

some of us are well aware that if you have no responses and people are not hitting post comment, advertisers will spend their money somewhere else.

maybe you think we are naive, but some us have noticed all of the new white companies who are now advertising on your sites.

you attack obama on being controlled by the powerful, white corporate america. but one could say the same about you with all of the white corporate companies who are now advertising on your sites. are you now being controlled by the white companies who are making millions for you by adverstising on your sites? i’m sure they all support obama! lol

we don’t see any black companies advertising on your sites, all white..therefore you would not be making any money if the white companies decided to not advertise on your sites.

so tell us boyce, are you dividing us out of concern for black people or is it to increase traffic to attact more wealthy white companies to advertise your sites to make you more millions?

interesting…..maybe it’s time we start watching your feet and not your mouth!

your feet say you’re controlled by the people who pay for advertisement on your sites and your salary as a professor at syracuse university. who would that be boyce? lol

eventually black people will see boyce/yvette for what they are, just another race hustling pimp..but all in the love and concern for black people lol…pimpin ain’t easy…you might fool man, but not god.

Yvette cracks me up as usual and so does the rest of my so-called community. Black people are the only people in the World who will ride hard for someone who hasn’t done s**t for them other than having the same d**n skin color. When Hobama loses even though his entire Presidency supported White Supremacy and their agenda. Re-newing the Bush tax cuts, keeping Gitmo open, keeping 100′s of thousands of Private Military Contractor’s in Iraq, still going in Afghanistan AFTER Osama Bin Laden’s death? Remember Shirley Sherrod? He won’t lose because those of you who didn’t gain a thing from his Presidency (Black People) stopped supporting him. It will be because you supported a Republican in sheeps Democrat clothing. When ever someone like Ms. Carnell critiques this man or any of his bootlickers the first thing you cry is ‘how dare you, what have you done?’ It’s like if you saw a Doctor snorting Cocaine just before he goes to perform heart surgery on your Mom. Waitaminute stop right there dude, what are you doing? He says – ‘Do you know how to cut someone open, did you go to med school? Well then shut the f.. up’ and his Nurse (the Sharpton’s of the world) says how dare you speak to Dr. Basehead like that, you know he is one of the only Black Doctors we have?’ Your Mom then dies. So according to my people when we see someone Elite, rich or powerful f*****g up we are supposed to shut up and and start tap dancing cos wez so happy, they exist? Why would White people enjoy making you happy when they can spit in your face by electing someone who is the same politician as Hobama but is White: Romney. The policy remains the same no matter who wins. Nothing for Black people. The Press will say it’s because of the economy or because White people wanted Change. All bs. He didn’t do what he said he was going to do and he didn’t do a d**n thing for Black people that’s why he Lost. Mark this date down. So you can thank me after Wolf announces it in November.

Obama hashis faults and I agree that he is weak when it comes to helping blacks directly, but what in the h**l do you mitt is going to do, but make it worst. Instead of deriding the president about things that he did not do, how about reading the paul rand budget that mitt supports and then tell us how much he cares about blacks or the poor and middle-class compared to obama.

You sound really silly. Oh, because my President did not say “I’ll give food stamps to every black person, I’ll give every black person reparations, I’ll give every black person jobs that they want without a high school diploma and college education, or better yet, I’ll clear your credit and make sure you benefit directly from everything I do” he did not do anything. I got news for all of you stupid, ignorant, uneducated bafoons, he never made any promises that reflected race in anyway. He was elected by an entire nation, so what the h**l do you mean “He never did anything he promised, he did nothing for black people?” What exactly was he supposed to do that he didn’t? He has done more than any other President has done in the whote house and that was reported in 2010, but bebecause he didn’t give blacks handouts, then he really hasn’t done anything for black people. h**l, black people don’t do anything for theirselves. Get over yourself already.

It has become quite apparent that Dr. Watkins et al have sought a losing strategy here, all in the name of boosting their acclaim. I don’t know what could be more transparent than to have minions write articles and essays that accomplish nothing, and provide no useful insight. The evolution of Al Sharpton’s consciousness has been one that has had an uneven trajectory, but I cannot discount where he is now.
It certainly seems as though Boyce want to be where Al is, with media mics stuck in his face, and rendering commentary to the American public about issues of the day. That’s really alright with me, but pay some dues. Don’t get there by tearing down anyone whose position and achievement you seek to emulate.

I agree with most of the panel. Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson are not perfect; however, they have contributed Black American struggle. Rather than criticize our Brothers for the things they did wrong, we should point out the things they did right. I am not a big fan of Al Sharpton nor Jesse Jackson, however I respect them for the things they have done. How many can have their lives scrutinize by the media, public, and their own people. Lets talk about the positives and leave the negative comments to ourselves. We all have negativity and no one is perfect.

    Dr. Boyce Watkins,
I want you to know and understand that when this site first went up I had high respect for you and was most impressed with the issues and concerns you advanced here. However, I am sad to state that your site has greatly depreciated to a point that you are now advancing issues just short of three-headed men. You have been provided an opportunity to do great work for our community, but you have now apparently decided to do something far less than great work. Now you are producing trash on this site and that is too sad! I will not stoop to character assassination on this site, so all I will state about Ms. Yvette Carnell is that I hope she finds happiness in her life because it seems rather obvious that she may be an unhappy and scorned woman. She seems to hate President Barack Obama, and anybody in their right mind knows that all WOMEN love President Obama! Republican women are obviously not in their right mind!
President Obama is doing an outstanding, tough job for all of the American people, and will do a lot more in his second term if we-the American people- have enough sense to re-elect him! He is experiencing brutal, unfair and extremely racist opposition and you! I am a 72 year old African-American man and obviously a lot wiser and smarter than you! Let’s be a lot wiser and smarter than we have shown! We all must see that the Republicans, Blue Dog Democrats, Tavis Smiley, Dr. Cornell West, Ms. Yvette Carnell, others racists, and you, Dr. Boyce Watkins, are working against the President! Et tu, Dr. Boyce Watkins? Let’s re-elect President Barack Obama on Tuesday, November 06, 2012!

That is a good thing, however in their effort to be objective they end up being mediocure and clueless. There is not one reason to get muddy over Al Sharpton giving a eulogy at Rodney King funeral, Their is nothing honorable in attacking anyone who is trying to giving a going home message for someone who lived h**l here on earth. I understand why the two of you score so low in your feeble attempt to be journalist, the main problem is both of you are educated idiots. I see a lot of Rush Limbaugh in the way you treat our high profile African Americans. I’m certain you probably know the president will alway leave you and those like you..ie..Tavis..Cornell..to your miserable self. The black race have to many like you, that want to be on the inside so you can distort facts and spread poison like the O’Rileys and others just like them. It’s a hoax when it comes to black women but its not a hoax when it comes to black men raping white women. What would sharpton do if it was his daughter who got rape by a white man. Would he sell out for Silver……hope not…..black women do the research on brawley and tell me of it was a hoax. Because a white man rarely goes to jail for raping our women.

Generally speaking, Yvette seems to have a pure disdain for black folks and her world view is very limited. Also, the female writers on Dr. Boyce’s team, who write negatively about black women, show mediocre to almost no critical thinking ability, yet they are often featured. This outlet needs a quick reboot before it becomes nothing more than fodder. Not much that is constructive comes from it anymore. In fact it is becoming very anti-intellectual and in some ways destructive to our community.

I’m a bit late to the party and it appears that there’s been a campaign of sorts to disparage Dr. Watkins and Yvette Carnell. Now, I don’t necessarily agree with everything either says, but I do appreciate the analysis and the attempt to hold black leadership accountable. During the Twanna Brawley affair, there were thousand of black folks who supported Sharpton, Mason and Maddox on the basis of them telling the truth. I’m not sure if Brawley deceived them or if they just told outright lies about the entire affair, but I do know that they never explained what the h**l happened, so all we’re left with is the press accounts of them lying and making all of this up. Accountability means just that–they should have accounted for what happened in the Brawley affair. Similarly, Obama should be held to account for what he does and doesn’t do. I think it’s breath of fresh air when Carnell, Watkins, Smiley, West or anyone else offers a critique of black leadership as that’s the only way we can hold folks to account. We need to get beyond this whole symbolism thing were we satisfied merely to have a black face appear somewhere even though the appearance does nothing for us. I’m beyond celebrating someone’s “job” unless that job results in something for me and mine. Sharpton’s promotion of MSNBC analyst does wonders for him and the Obama campaign, but does nothing for the masses of black folks. He is only there to deliver the vote much in the same manner as Bill O’Reilly does for the white conservatives. The Obama presidency has fallen short on several measures, yet we’re all to happy to keep our “symbol” in place rather than put pressure on him (along with other black & white politicians) to actually deliver something meaningful. It’s like we’re klieg light and photo op people and as long as black faces appear on TV and in the newspaper, we give up the vote, our money or our time on the cheap without anything substantive in return. To advance our cause, we’re going to have to be far more sophisticated than that.
