Red Sox Player Says of Heckler Who Shouted Racist Slur, “People in Boston Don’t Even Do That”

In one of the best backhanded compliments ever, Red Sox player Carl Crawford said of a heckler who shouted a racist slur at him, ”People in Boston don’t even do that so I don’t even know what that was about.”

Crawford says someone shouted the racial slur at him Thursday at a ballpark in Manchester, New Hampshire.  But Crawford, who has been undergoing injury rehab, didn’t let the comment get under his skin.

“I can understand why people can be upset about me signing my contract and me having the kind of year I had. I understand,” Crawford said. “They love their team and they want you to produce when you signed the contract like that. I can’t get mad at them. All I can do is just get ready to play this year and try to produce.”

Way to handle ignorance with class.
