Black Teen Jailed For Defending Himself Against White Mob? [Video]
The reason many activists across the country are working so hard to change ‘Stand Your Ground’ laws is because the laws are not interpreted objectively across the
board by police and judges. Some people are allowed to stand their ground, while others are carried away to jail for the same offenses.
While the details of the Eric Oliver case are sketchy, Oliver’s family says he was jailed for preventing a white mob from attacking his friend. According to the family, the white mob wanted the family to send out a young man named Mikey, but when the family complied, Mikey was attacked. Eric Oliver then came outside to rescue Mikey from the mob. Then, a white woman allegedly yelled, “n****r you’re going to jail!” and called police on Oliver. According to the family, police arrived at the scene and refused to hear Oliver’s version of the events. Police allegedly arrested Oliver after hearing only the white mob’s version of the events.
What is still unclear is why Mikey was attacked. What precipitated this fight? Who started it? There are too many unanswered questions to reach a conclusion in this instance, but it would appear that not enough has been done to get to the bottom of this case. The circumstances of this young man’s arrest are outrageous. As you are probably aware Eric was arrested on June 12, 2012 while defending his family and friends from a white mob the encroached on he and his mother’s home. This is Trayvon Martin all over again, except the victim survived this time. This mob attacked a 16-year-old young man but nobody from the mob has been arrested. If there was ever a stand your ground case this is it.

My question is… “if a white mob shows up at my door asking my son to step outside; why the h**l would I send him out???” Why weren’t the cops called to remove the white mob from my doorstep??? This is sounding crazy as heck right about now.

When did it ever happen in this country that African Americans were ever dealt the same justice or penaties? NEVER. We as a race of people in a land that has always been hostile to us just because of our complexion coloring need to understand that each law, each situation will always take our race into consideration. The laws may say one thing but when you bring judge, jury or media into the mix, we will always come out on the short end of the stick. Always do the right thing and never give them a chance to judge your motives or actions because you will never win. I’m just saying.

Danita I agree with you once I looked out the door and saw a mob I’m shutting the door, I’m not going out there. Call me chicken, then call 911. I don’t understand why the family didn’t call the police and what bothers me is why there comparing this to Trayvon Martin. I understand this young man was protecting his brother and doesn’t belong in jail and nobody is listening to him, I get that. I live here in Florida and I shutter to think about what this will bring here again between this and the election. The tension is so high as it is across the country right now with everyone it is disgusting. I wish it would just stop.

It was stupid to go outside. Was the kid who was asked to come out of the house a bully? Why didnot he get singled out by the mob? Did he disrespect one of their family members?
Mr. Oliver was released on 26 June after his bond was reduced. Still, something should be done about the way the police approach situations between whites and blacks. The person who was in charge (on the ground) should be punished.

Hopefully justice will prevail but when the white media is not shining a spotlight on these type of cases they get swept under the rug. After doing a Google search I can’t find any info on this story other than this link and this incident happened on June 12 over a month ago.

I am sorry, as much as I want to sympathize with this family I find it hard. For you to allow your child to go outside because a gang asked you to bring him outside is beyond me. Black people need to stop being so afraid of seeming like cowards. if that had been a mob of black people at a white family’s home, do you think that white family would have sent their child outside. h**l No. They would have called the cops and then they would have come outside.
The story sounds fishy. Did the white mob tell the black family why they wanted their son to come out. Why is this story even on this website with so little information about it. Did the son get badly injured. Did the brother send someone to the hospital. I don’t get why so little is known about it and why this Yvette person even bothered putting the story on here, with so little research work.
I’m not surprised the cops arrested the black teenager, but I am shocked that the meat-wagon didn’t have to come to collect the bodies of the white mob. I don’t know or understand why the people in the house didn’t start killing people in the mob, because a group of people demanding to hurt my child deserves nothing but death, regardless of what my child may have done. I wouldn’t kill the people out of revenge, but out of the necessity to protect my family. What makes their lives more important than my life? This is something that is happening all across the United States. Whites are hailed as heros for defending themselves, but when Black people exercise the exact same right of self defense to keep from being killed the judicial system wants to jail them. Self defense is a HUMAN right not only for those of white skin.

Florida seems to be climbing higher and higher on the incompetence list in this country.
First, why would you send someone out there in front of a “mob”?
Second, why not call the cops yourself when you see it turning for the worst?

My solution to this would be to bring as much media attention to this circumstance as possible while verifying police statements and contacting any and all political connections to make sure that these police chiefs and forces either take on a new stance or submit their resignation.
I am honestly not surprised especially considering the governor is participating in the voter purge that removes more natural citizens than illegal aliens, not to mention restricting minorities and usual democratic voters from participating. I would hope that this would be more encouragement to get involved in political arena and making our communities voices heard, the Latino and gay community have learned that. Why haven’t we?

I’m not arguing that there was racist intent in this circumstance as the details are omitted from this story. I would like to understand why it is that someone would send one person out to meet a mob that is likely to have some malicious intent intended for that poor individual.
Given the other observations of the community that you’ve stated, I can’t argue with too much of what you have stated. I do know that those examples of that particular ignorance is relatively rampant more often in the urban environment usually owed to the influence of poorly chosen role models and misguided views of education and society. While I’m not attempting to insult those of my own community, I believe that there must be something done to better our circumstances.
