BET Awards Dominate Twitter With More Than 10 million Tweets
There’s nothing like social media on award show nights because everyone wants to join the conversation.
The 2012 BET Awards were no exception.
The show show generated 10 million unique tweets throughout the night— up 683 percent from 2011. That number made the show third only to the Super Bowl and the Grammy’s in its social media impact.
The show also drew 7.4 million viewers on Sunday night. It was a slight decrease down from last year’s 7.7 million, so maybe all those who vowed not to watch this year actually didn’t. Still, the 2012 BET awards made great numbers.
That record breaking number makes it the top awards show on cable at least until the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards which threaten to take that title soon.
All this was made possible by both fans and foes of the show who ranted and raved about everything from the misspelling of Debra Lee’s name, who was in attendance , who wore what, and chatter about the best performances.
Attracting much of the attention was the highly-anticipated return of D’Angelo to the stage as well as the return of The Carters and Kanye to the show. Beyonce’, Jay-Z and Kanye had been visibly absent from the show in previous years.

I thought the show was wonderful and, D’Angelo did not disappoint. He still got it and added a little more flavor to the kool-Aid. Oh, and I’ve got to give props to Joe, Tyrese and Ginuwine, they were great and they looked like caramel and mocha blended (my favorite combination). I was proud of how Joe and Tyrese stepped in and helped out Frankie Beverly as he struggled with his voice. Overall, I thought that all of the performances were really good.
Keep up the good work BET and Debra Lee.
