Yvette Carnell: Herman Cain Cashes in, Set to Host National Radio Show
by Yvette Carnell
The New York Times ‘Media Decoder’ blog is reporting that Herman Cain has inked a deal for a nationally syndicated radio show to begin in January. Mr Cain, who hosted a WSB Atlanta show before running for President, is setting the stage for grander schemes, thanks to his high profile run for the White House.
Most black people called this one months ago. I have to admit, I’ve never been kind to Cain, and it’s all been deliberate, and for good reason. Back in January, I said:
Now, as Cain re-emerges with a “Cain Solutions Revolution” tour, his intentions have been unmasked. His campaign has always been about raising his profile in hopes of winning a coveted FOX show or ratcheting up book sales. And he’s not going to give that up just because his campaign imploded. He’s a hustler. He may as well don a zoot suit, a perm, and pinky ring.
I’ve never had as much of a problem with Cain as I have with the people who pretended he wasn’t doing exactly what he was doing; using his candidacy as stepping stone to increased personal wealth. He’s always been a bit of a sideshow, but fortunately for him, he’s a sideshow that many conservatives enjoy watching.
But there is still an overwhelming sense of sadness in how blacks are overwhelmingly used as pawns, never players, on the American political chess board. Cain is akin to some sort of smiling and singing jack-o-lantern. He is a shucker and jiver. And Obama supporters tell me that Obama’s hands are tied, and there’s nothing he can really *do* to overcome an entrenched system of unfairness. Always the bridesmaid and never the bride, I guess. Any excuse will do.
