Torture in U.S. Prisons? Exonerated Man Says He Saw Prisoner Eat His Own Eye [Video]
In the first-ever hearing on solitary confinement, a Senate panel heard testimony from an exonerated prisoner on solitary confinement in U.S. prisons.
Even though defenders of solitary confinement claim it is needed to control the most violent prisoners, some psychologists and former prisoners testified at the hearing that it causes mental illness.
Anthony Graves, a former Texas prisoner who was fully exonerated of a murder conviction after spending 18 years in jail, the bulk of which was spent on death row and in solitary confinement, described what he’d seen while on death row, which included watching a man eat his own eye.

In viewing this clip, my heart went out for this young man. I can only try to imagine what he and his family went through during those 18 years….only in the end what he has been declaring all along to be true…I am Innocent….Im trying to figure out what are the powers that be thinking about….keeping a human in a cage for indefinte and prolonged periods and thinking that when they come out that they can re-integrate successfully into society. I do understand that there are those that are truly dangerous but the percentage relative to those that are not differ drastically….it is a very sad situation…
My heart goes out to Mr. Graves; however, there are some really hardend, guilty people in America’s prisions who have committed heinous crimes. These are the people who would be a good fit for the conditions Mr. Graves described, “no TV”, “couldn’t see the sky”. Many people have been killed and torchered by these death row inmates and don’t deserve a TV or to see the sky.
I realize that many of the people who are on death row do not belong there at all… and for that promise that I will do what I can, as a citizen, to end this abuse but I just wanted to remember the VICTIMS that got those truly guilty people there in the first place.
Please ! what the h**l do they expect when they end up in prison ? They think that they,re going to a country club for petes sake? It seems that the system is trying to twist things around and make out that these prisoners on death row are the victims ,i don,t buy into any of it .If any of these death row inmates had any sense at all they would,nt have wound up in death row in the first place.
What would you do if you were wrongfully accused, as MANY people are in America, and ended up in one of these prisons??
So what happens to the men who are in prison with a 5 year sentence, go through all of this unnecessary and non-rehabilitating h**l and then come out and meat Marcus Davis on the street??
MEET Marcus Davis on the street

Mabye you caught the segment on National Public Radio (NPR) regarding psychologists station at the prison in Guantanamo Bay. Psychologists and psychiatrists described how they consoled prisoners after torture and found out their greatest fears. Then the DoD subjected them to their greatest fears. These mental health professionals (terrorists) claimed they did not initially know their work was being used to further inhumane torture, but when they did find out they didn’t care. NPR stated the next day they exceeded any and all records for responses from the public being outraged. Our Congress did nothing. These terrorists in the US Congress do not represent us and should be the ones in jail.
Every bit of this level of judicial disparity, covert protocol, lack of hard numbers (when requested) and the inhuman treatment and conditions that these prisoners are subjected are institutionalized from the top down. True there are sadistic minded people employed as C.O.s, Wardens and the like but they receive initiatives, or more succinctly put, directives as to how to proceed in terms of how these facilities are run, i.e. the continual “monitoring” and maintenance of prisoner control. There are people in Death Row on the other hand who would just run around in the free society as very violent serial killers to be real about it!
So the instance with the man in question in this situation is unique (not so much concerning wrongful imprisonment for a black man, the main target of every police department and judge in America) but it does shine a light on the fact that what everyone from scholars to just well read citizens already know. The penal system in America does not rehabilitate anyone because the business of prisons is way too profitable to actually spend time and, most importantly, money trying to return criminals to a civilized state of mind physically, mentally and behaviorally. We’re talking billions and a lot of that money is spent to keep Mayors, Senators and Congressmen quiet, turn a blind eye and a deaf ear to the reality of the entire quagmire that is the United States penal system, especially concerning blacks and Latinos!!
they..need to dominate,control,..and limit….as well as make major ..profits off…the masses of black people…..it is a issue..that can not be resolved….unless our own institutions are…started….and we separate ourselfs….and cooperate….with economic,social, and political/educatonal initialtives….with people whom share..in our general empowerment..and have mutual needs….in addressing….that enpowerment…..meaning….our black brothers..and sisters….all over the world specifically Akebulan (Africa)……
