Cory Booker on The Tonight Show: Obama Was “The First Person” to Defend Me Over Bain Remarks

Cory Booker took some time out to drop in and chat with Jay Leno on The Tonight Show last night. As you’d expect, Booker’s remarks about  how he was uncomfortable attacking Mitt Romney’s time at Bain came up.

Booker said that during the dust up, President Obama called to offer his support.

Booker noted that he was among the first people to endorse Barack Obama over Hillary Clinton, and that he and Obama were friends long before he was President.

“He was incredibly gracious in the things he said about me… he was incredibly kind, and that’s the shame about the kind of politics we’re in– people often miss the essence of a man.” Booker also said that Obama is a “good person” and “the first person to step forward and say ‘hey, you’re my friend, we all say things that don’t come out as we mean them, and I’m still with you.’”

A good friend will stick with you through the good times and also the bad times. A good friend is really hard to find.
