Comedian Louis C.K. : “When a Black Woman Tells You to Get a Job, It Just Hurts More”
Comedian Louis C.K., whose crude comments about Sarah Palin forced him to withdraw from speaking at this month’s Radio and Television
Correspondents Association Dinner, now has a bit to say about black women.
On his FX show, he casts a black woman as his ex-wife, and discusses the differences between a black wife and a white wife.
“As far as her being black,” C.K. said, “she’s very different from my ex-wife in real life.”
“This woman,” he continued, “is harsher on the show. And she puts a lot of pressure on me. Like she’s a professional, and she wants me to kind of step up.”
“So there’s like a scene there later in the season where she’s, she’s trying to get me to get a real job,” said C.K. “And when a black woman tells you to get a job, it’s just more, ‘Get a job,’ it just hurts more.”

If a black woman is constantly telling you to get a job that only means she is tired of that man laying up on her watching her tv…eating all the food out of her fridge….running up her phone bill and chillin with his friends @ the house while she is @ work!I feel it is better to badger him about getting a job and hope that it motivate him to get up off his b**t and @ least try to do something instead of keeping silence and let him keep doing all of the things that mentioned above and the woman is silently hating him!
Well , come on …Im a black women I watched the interview …its realy not that bad. I think he was implying if a Black women has to tell you to get a job and she is a professional and direct than he is going to feel it. Also , he may also be implying that with all the odds against a black women and all the benefits of a white man and Black women , has to tell you get a job you must be a REAL LOSER therefore hurting more. Lets not make every thing racist …it wasnt that bad ladies.
So what, I’m black and I tell jokes about white people all the time. Look at all of our black comics, they joke about whites..
I agree with you Rachel. And the cards are stacked against our race so when the man falls, us women for years now have had to pick him up while trying to stand on her own and feel in the gap! So with all the struggles we face and deal with on a day to day I agree, it will hurt more because black women have had to walk in a MAN’S shoes much more closely than women of any other race!
I really feel he meant the stereotypical ‘stressed-out, taking-care-of-3- kids-by-myself-with-no-help-from-your-sorry-a*s’ black woman.
A man makes, on average, 25% more than a woman doing the exact same job- there is NO reason why a man not be working! This is ridiculous!! Should black women lower her standards and accept a b*m? That’s why I ain’t spreading my legs for anyone and getting knocked up, only for my ‘boo’ to question me as to WHY I want him to get a job! Cause we got mouths to feed, you dumb a*s!! American men have absolutely no sense of responsibility, and now they with white women as black are left with the job of 2 parents!
Louie CK is a very funny non-racist guy. If he were a racist, he wouldn’t have a black woman as his ex-wife. His “children” are very white, but that’s not important. What is important on his show is the talent of the ex-wife character. Louie acknowledges that this black actress has what is called for.
I don’t get it. I thought it was funny. I’m a black woman and I wasn’t offended at all. I didn’t see the racial undertones or anything. It’s not that serious guys.
I don’t think the comments were racist, but I am curious to know why it hurts more coming from a black woman than a white woman. White women want their men to get jobs too. I would have liked to learn more.
black women are known for “going-off” “neck rolling” “reading” and over all “tude” that’s what hurts more. that’s what he meant, not the other side — that black women don’t mind if men don’t work because black men don’t work. Bad call black community, not racist but sassy black woman stereo-type based comedy.
