Black Democrat Turned Republican: “African Americans Are Prepared to Look Seriously at the Republican Party”

Former Democratic Rep. Artur Davis appeared on CNN with Wolf Blitzer and said that African-Americans are prepared to give Republicans a second look once President Obama’s term is over.

Davis, who lost his 2010 primary, recently announced that he is leaving the Democratic party and moving to Virginia, probably to run as a Republican.

Davis says he left the Democratic Party over a number of issues.

“The reason I got behind [President Obama] was twofold,” said Davis. “Number one, Perhaps naively, I believed that if Barack Obama got elected that it would completely change race relations in this country. Number two, I believe that the Democratic party would change because I believed, again perhaps naively and it turns out mistakenly, that Barack Obama represented the kind of center-wing of the Democratic party that Bill Clinton represented.”

Davis went on to say that he believes President Obama has led the Democratic Party too far to the left. He also said that he believes that when Obama’s term is up, African-Americans will hit the reset button, so to speak.

“I do think that after President Obama leaves the scene, win or lose he will not be on the ballot again,” said Davis. “When he leaves the scene, I do think African Americans are prepared to look seriously at the Republican party, as are Latinos, if the Republican party earns those votes.”

If the Blacks Demoractic turn to Republican is RICH, they will fit right in with the Republicans’, but if they are not i wish them luck.

Herman Cain can tell you about what the Republicans’ will do for you. They hung Cain out to dry, he was so naive he started blaming the Democratics, i’m thinking Herman look to left and than to your right one of you presidental Candidates are thinking you are getting to much attention with your 999.

Herman Cain finally got the message when they induced the other woman.
President Obama would have be glade to debate Herman Cain.

This guy obviously is bitter after blacks in Alabama rejected his candidacy. I saw him on morning Joe hitting softball questions out of the park. Not once did he give a credible reason why he now wants to be a republican. I was wondering while watching him spout his bullshit, with voter suppression laws, the southern strategy, and the racist tea party. Why would any black person want to be part of a club that will not allow you to attend ALL ITS MEETINGS!! What fu#king planet is this guy from?

Blacks are also leaving the GOP. Any time you have people limiting votes through their manipulation (In Ohio it was the weight of the paper) not providing the voting machines based on population and those districts that snake through diverse counties, rural, townships and urban snip its so that Republicans can win.The ID boondoggle . If State IDs are mandatory the state should provide them free of charge. Opportunists exist without regard to ethnicity, or even self interest . Even those who started the Republican party wouldn’t join or be defined by it in 2012.The old Dixiecrats are now called GOP.

He thought the President could change race relations…Really? How would his election be able to do that? I don’t understand the logic of that statement…

I agree with Maria, what kind of thinking is that. How can anyone but the people themselves change race relations. He is thinking like Sarah Palin.

      I also, agree with James…totally…

This guy is only concerned about keeping a job. He just like some other Democrats in Congress who are straddling the fence because they have doubts that the President will get re-elected. He’s a hypocrite just like the others. The only Black people looking at the Republican party are naive fools that are so easily brainwashed that they would vote for snoopy if they heard it enough. The President is trying to make things better for “all” Americans, Blacks included. If America prospers, Blacks prosper. That’s the way it’s always been. Republicans are only interested in the affluent and couldn’t care less about the average American.

Exactly. This guy knows that he will never win another race as a Dem, so he’s going where there are few Black politicians to contend with, and the republican party is eager to pay big money for a housen!gger to say about the Dems and this President what they get in trouble for saying, but say it anyway.

The Republican party is not a party for black people and it will never be a party for blacks. I agree with James, this guy is merely planting roots for a possible campaign as a Republican. He’s playing a “Herman Cain” so to speak, blacks as a whole will never ever take a serious look at the white people’s party known as the GOP. This guy needs to keep his wayward thoughts to himself, because no one really cares what he thinks or says concerning black America.

So Arthur Davis want to be a republicon, let him be free to do it. Who cares? It is Negroes like him, Allan West and Herman Cain who are sell outs pandering to the republicon party ideology that is anti-black, anti-immigrant and anti every thing that government does for black people. The man is disillusioned so let him go be a republicon and let’s forget him.

Changing to Republican will not help this brother in his quest to totally identify with the white race. And then he wants to move to Virginia where some Black people fear to tread. He will undoubtedly move into an all white neighborhood and think that he is going to fit in, and there is a chance that he may. But what if he does not? Is he going to blame racism for his choices to be Republican or Democat? I know a woman who switched from Democrat to Republican and they only thing that I get from her is that she is able to get into places because she switched. She also does not empathize with poor people. She was poor at one time. Some of these Black people are so F’d up in the mind until a lot more time and space is needed to explain them.

Two questions must be asked. First, how relevant is the Democratic Party in much of the south, especially the deep south. Second, how effective are progressives in that region. There was a time when the likes of Dale Bumpers could get elected in Arkansas. Even in the 1940′s and 50′s Alabama elected senators in Lister Hill and John Sparkman who while voting against cilvil rights as a necessity in those times where sent there for other reason, to bring home the government bacon so to speak. Those days are long gone. If race is not the issue, then opposition to government, a long standing southern trademark is. The south may well be a right wing bastion for the long haul, it roots in slavery being just the tip of the iceberg.

Sorry he’s entitled to be and do whatever he wants..
But Black folks know all about white folks.. We’re able to be as black as we want yet white enough to succeed in their world as well. We know when we’re loved liked respected and denied..unfairness and
racism we carry everyday of our lives..from Police c**p..DWB..Employment Discrimination..Housing..TV Commercials..
yadda yadda and etc etc..I can name ga-zillion of signals we acknowledge everyday …So with all the obvious stuff to pillage how in the world can a sensible or not educated or not black man/woman support a Republican/Tea Party /Conservative group when we know they despise us..87% of Republican Party are white folks…they don’t adore blacks and they dont pretend they do anymore.. just watch FOX Cable you will see….Maybe we all arent Democrates Liberal or are Independents but regardless of party choice we are sensible reasonable people that dislike hate/ discrimination and policies designed to lessen our quality of life. Not to mention Most or good majority would consider ourselves as ‘
“TRAITORS’ SELLOUTS’, or HOUSE NEGROES” to embrace a group of white Men that do not hide their dislike and/or concerns about us..
    Sarah Palin..Sean Hannity..Bill O’Reilly..Glen Beck…Rush Limbaugh..
Tea Party and Congress…Herman Cane..Michael Steele..and other Black Men cannot influence us..Lastly when I 1st worked on Wall St back in 79 I was labeled as a “TOKEN” I even flirted idea to be Republican because it appeared the right thing to do from being around white men….but my heart knew better and regardless of my education salary and title, reality showed we’re not equals in their minds…Republican’s now behave like a white supremicist party..

Exactly. I make a great salary, and it is only growing. I must deal with Whites daily, but I will never allow any of that to cause me to ignore the fact that there are still Black Americans suffering because of the ignorant concept call “race” in this world. Even when white people don’t hate us, they dislike us alot. They tolerate us when they must, but they would rather not. I don’t have anything against white people, but I hate the fact that I cannot have a day without their hatred of my existence. There is not a day that goes by that some white person don’t look at me sideways. When they get tired of seeing Black folks they can go somewhere and not see one of us for days, if not longer. We as black folks don’t have that luxury, and most of us don’t want it, but sometimes the thought of makes me smile!

Is this joker for real? First off his two reasons for leaving the Democrat Party were lame at best, stupid at most. Did this joker not watch president Obama’s speech at Hyde Park? I must have been watching a whole different speech because I saw white folks, latinos, Asian folks, and black folks are cheering and crying together. Why? Because history was made. We elected the first black president. Anything is possible!! So I think that race relations did improve. We all know that there is a small minority of people that are going to hate black, hispanic, an asian people no matter how positive we are. We can’t change that. Just look at what was happening during McCain’s and Palin’s rallies. And look at what is happening during president Obama’s first term, Folks are going to hate him no matter what he does, just because he is black.

The second reason is even stupid. President Obama is working in the center, just like Bill Clinton did. If president Obama was working to the left of center, you would know it. How? People, especially the poorest of the poor would not be hurting as bad in terms of making a living. If Obama was on the left of the center, tax loop holes would have been closed day one when president Obama took office and other tools to help the middle class and the poor would have been created. President Obama understands the game of politics. He knows that he has to play the middle game.

And it would be a cold day in heck before I vote for a Republican or even think about joining the Republicans. I have nothing in common with the GOP. I am pro-choice. I believe that we should tax the wealthy and get rid of Bush’s tax cuts for the wealthy. I am pro union. I think that gay people should be allowed to marry. In short, I do not have anything in common with the Republicans. Why would I vote against my self interest? It is dumb.

If other brothers and sister want to join the GOP, that is their right. Go for it. I aint! I can’t stand the GOP…minus Colin Powell. The brother is cool. But if he were to run for president, I would not vote for him…just because he is a Republican and Republicans stick together on their issues. But I would never vote for a Republican.

Mr. Davis right. So called Black people are taking another look at the GOP.

We’re looking at a party that for the past three years was the party of no, we’re looking at a party that wanted to put Sarah Palin a heart beat away from the Presidency, we’re looking at a party that is trying to put a bold face liar in charge of the Oval office, we’.re looking at a party that had a VP (Cheney) who had his own death squads, we’re looking at a party who ran a candidate for President of the United States who wanted to be separate from the United States of American and we’re looking at a party that is willing to violate Civil Rights through voter suppression.

Yes we’re looking and wodering what kind of party is this, well there isn’t much to wonder about any more.

An Obama win in November is a must. If Mitt “The Liar” Romney wins it will embolden the racist, the bigoted, the violent, and the White Supremist as well as those who thirsty for war with Iran, Syria, China, or Pakistan.

This sorry Plantation Sellout does not speak for African Americans, becuase there is no way I will ever give a Re[publican Candidate and chance, let alone the Republican Party, and sooner or later when this idiot pulls his head out of his b**t, so his brain can get fresh air there may be a chance for him. Any person of “color” that Votes for them is out of your mind. For years they have shown the true colors, over and over. During Election Year they sweet talk you, try to promise you the Sun in the morning and the Moon at night, but the day AFTER the Election, your back to being, a second-class, Kunta Kinte M………F……Until the next Election year. And since Barack Obama has inhabited the White House they have done things they’d never dare due to a White President.

If most people read the Republican platform and that is black, white, Spanish, etc. I think you would find that it is designed to give favor to Whites. Rich whites, not even these poor, ill informed whites who think this is their party.
While I don’t think that Democrats are the “be all” the party is closer to my values and beliefs than the Republican.
Don’t buy the kool-aid, prime example of how the Republicans work is to remember Green from S.C. . Someone had to pay for him to get on the ballot against Jim Dement . He was told what to say and to use him in such a way was not only an insult to him but to all blacks, because the thought process is that black will vote for anyone if there skin is black. Whites have been voting for whites since the the first ever election.
Something will need to change for me to vote Republican.
