Dr. Boyce: Why I’d Gladly Trade Obama for a Competent and Courageous White Guy
Quick note from Dr. Boyce:
Before you read this article, I’d like to make the following things clear:
1) No, I don’t hate Barack Obama – I just believe in demanding something in exchange for my political support. In 2007, I was one of the first on CNN to note that Obama might actually have a chance to defeat Hillary Clinton. This is largely due to the fact that I am so impressed with him. My daughter even went to the same college (Columbia) as Obama (and I told her to go there).
2) No, I don’t think that Father Michael Pfleger would ever be elected President of the United States, nor do I believe that he would ever want to be
3) Critiquing Obama does not make me a “hater,” “Uncle Tom” or all the other buzzwords that have been heavily marketed by men like Steve Harvey and Tom Joyner who have a direct interest in convincing you to vote without thinking.
Personally, I encourage you to disagree with me if I am wrong. The goal is not to let others think for you, it is to learn to think for yourself. You are your own greatest black leader, and the best use for your Democratic voice is for you to analyze policies of political leaders to determine if they are keeping campaign promises or just wooing you with meaningless banter.
If the Obama Administration wants to shut down all of those who’ve chosen to speak up on matters of relevance to the African American community, the solution is very simple: Show one example in which an action on the part of the Obama Administration has been as bold for the black community as it has been for the gay community, the Latino community or women’s rights groups. If the White House were to produce such a thing, the debate might come to an end.
The easiest way to kill a message you fear is to kill the messenger himself – that is when the truth has effectively become the enemy.
Without further ado, the article is below:
I woke up this morning asking God if I could make a trade. Similar to the NBA, when you have one player on the team who isn’t performing at the level you’d hoped, you try to get someone else who fits the criteria necessary to help the team find victory. In this case, we are playing for Team Black America.
Of course I know that America is not the kind of country that would elect someone like Father Michael Pfleger as its president. Father Michael Pfleger is the kind of pastor that becomes the nightmare of anyone who chooses to live his/her life cloaked in the comfort of a hypocritical life. In fact, I would dare say that Father Michael Pfleger might be well defined to be an angry black man.

just and idiot. Go find you a white man Cousin Tom.
…cha..ching..is the sound of boyce/yvettes bank accounts when advertisers buy more spots on their sities.
typical yvette and boyce, exploiting black folks with fabrication and sensationalism in their titles/articles to increase traffic.
notice how boyce now has three different sites…black blue dog, ybw and kulture? check out how many advertisers are now paying boyce to divide and manipulate us to sell their products? and believe me they are paying a lot of money to advertise on his sites. no traffic..no advertisers..no cha..ching!
boyce put us in a frenzy with these asinine articles to suck in more advertisers for profit.
he figured out..anything negative about obama will generate a tremendous amount of traffic to show advertisers. hating obama is now he bread and butter..cha ching!
he is not making money if no one responds..everytime you click to enter sites you are being tracked and counted to show advertisers how many black people are using his sites.
therefore he has to play on our emotions with this type of article article to get us to respond…it’s not about black people..it’s about the cha ching from the advertisers.
cyberspace pimps like boyce are no different than the pimps in the pulpit..yeah i said it.
don’t sleep on boyce, attacking obama is profitable and sells. boyce don’t give a d**n about black folks..no different than tavis and west when they sell their books out of concern and love for black folks.
don’t sleep now..boyce is a phd in finance..he is trying to get paid and we are making millions for him by fighting and acting a fool on his sites every time we fall for the banana in the tail pipe trick when he/yvette write these type of articles.
to those who have been wondering why would an educated black man divide us …now you know..it’s about the money for boyce..not the concern and love for black people.
i will unsubscribe..if i want someone to divide black people..i will go to fox news.
not sure why we allow our so called black leaders to divide us while wating around for the hate of the racist white leaders to unite us.
vote for obama! a half loaf of bread is better than no loaf!
d**n Mustafa, you’ve summed things up brilliantly. I’ve been saying it because I’ve known it. The only problem and question is how do discredit him or stop him? Trying to get some of these people to believe his true agenda won’t be easy and quite frankly, is it worth trying?
@james
no need to discredit boyce, he can fool man..but not god!
boyce will learn that god has a strange way of bringing us down to our knees when we are doing wrong.
what you do in the dark..will soon come to light!
he can fool some of the people, some of the time, but he cannot fool all the people… all the time.
i will not come back on this site to check response. this is it for me…peace out..stay black!
You said a whole lot of nothing. You put people in their place by using facts not a bunch of empty emotion. You didn’t name one policy to refute Dr. Boyce claim. You are the fool that will follow a black leader and not hold him or her accountable simply because they are black. Read what Israel is doing to the South Sudanese people. A member of their ministry referred to Israel as the white mans country. Wake the h**l up. Your tax dollars go to support countries that treat blacks like c**p. Our education system has failed black children, mass incarceration continues and a failed war on drugs. Yet you blindly support Obama.
Thank you Dr. Boyce for not being a blind Obamabot.
@jt
i can explain it to you but i cannot understand it for you.
piece, god bless!
peace
Please tell me what street i can drive down and see a community center that you’ve started or please show me a flyer from a health fair you’ve hosted or can you show me some pictures of a country(preferablly black)were you have been on a mission to help others?I ask you ,what John F. Kennedy said 50 years ago; “ask not what your Country can do for you,but what you can do for your country”..Dr.Boyce ,what have you done for your country? Dr. James Lawson who helped Dr. King during the “Movement” and was on the Balcony when Dr. King was killed has helped and continues to help; What have you done?Rep. Barbra Lee, Rep. Karen Bass,Rep. James Cylburn all help the President but not so you;You think because you started in 2007 that gives you some added “gravitas”? Well many of us here in Los angeles, started in 2007 also but we dont trumpet the fact,we do the work that needs to get done to get him re-elected while you continue to go on Fox and tear down the man. Why dont you go out and register someone to Vote or or host a job fair,or do some missionary work; you arent afraid to roll up your sleeves are you?
Kevin, I know you understand karma, so let’s just wait for it to hit this Boyce Watkins creature. I still say that Watkins,West, his sidekick, and Jesse Jackson, Sr. are envious of President Obama, not only because he holds the most powerful position in the world but also because he has a beautiful, educated, smart wife . “Educated” and “smart” are different, you know.
And he is better looking and in better physical condition. Lose those bellies, boys.
Knocking the president at every turn doesn’t hurt the man; it hurts the Party and shows the pettiness of these little men.
The last time I checked President Obama was the President of the United States, not the President of Chicago. Did you know that Chicago is the most segregated big city in the United States?
Where is your critique of the Chicago Aldermen, the Mayor, and the Governor of Illinois?
Last I checked mass incarceration, high unemployment, and an expensive unaffective war on drugs is an American problem. Since I pay taxes he should address it. Save the he is the president of the united states not black america. Everyone president before and after as helped specific groups. FYI your taxes are going to help Israel build a detention camp to house blacks. Enjoy.
Cut the c**p! At this point if we inject race into the matter then we are in total error-I along with many Americans feel that we should and must get back to concerns about policies, and leadership as opposed to the constant rolling out race card. I am concerned about the many, growing number of people who forgot about the flurry of failed initiatives that came from the Bush’s era which included thousands of Young American lives that were lost in a War overseas that started with the Gulf War and continues to this day. Now, Suicide becoming the Most Common Cause of Death in U.S. Military! Why!
There’s an old saying that, “if you want to hide something from people, hide it in books.” What I mean by that is people don’t understand enough about policy to make informed decisions –and then where do we go, well, we continue to turn to media (when we do) we almost always get biased points of view (Fox News). I personally feel proud of the accomplishments of President Obama, and I am proud of his historic election but I urge the public to look at policy. Here is one fact that we could point out! In contrast to both administrations;
• George W. Bush and his Republican Congress could only manage to create about 4 million jobs in seven years, despite the largest cash bubble in US economic history.
• Under the Obama Administration in less then two years-The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, created 2.1 million jobs and firing up the economy by a significant 3.5 percent.
Folks, Father Michael Pfleger and I are not good comparisons because we are called to do the work of God, and try at best-not to envelope ourselves in perpetual politics. I would understand better if of people who criticize this president, do it for policy, and not for Race! These ideas smack of Anarchism is generally defined as the political philosophy which holds the state to be undesirable. So with Anarchism it doesn’t matter what any leader does or who is in office-all they want to do is destroy, and burn, and burn.
Is Fox news any more or less biased than all of the other liberal-leaning mainstream media? We can never have a truly effective news lens if it is filtered through party and ideology.
CNN, HLN, NBC, MSNBC, ABC and CBS are all just as biased as Fox news. I watch all of them and if there is an illegal immigrant story or a gay rights story it will receive “compassionate story” on those networks. This afternoon, I watched this “Eatocracy” segment on CNN with the gay-rights-advocate-before-objective news anchor, Don Lemon, and he was discussing immigrants and their impact on the restaurant business in this country.
According to the guest and a Restaurant Association survey, without immigrants all of our restaurants would be unsustainable because they fill the jobs that your garden-variety American citizens will not do.
Well, who did the jobs before the influx of illegal and (legal) immigrants? I go to black-owned restaurants in my city and see almost exclusively black folks. I go to Chinese restaurants and I see Chinese workers. Most of these smaller restaurants are family-owned. I go to mainstream restaurants like Red Lobster, Oliver Garden, etc, and see workers of every ilk. So, it is obvious that “regular American” people will work at these places because they WANT and NEED jobs!!!
This notion that illegal immigration does not affect the average citizen in a depressed economy is absurd!! Their willingness to do just about anything for a buck and suffer through harsh treatment and disrespect, undercuts the ability of some American citizens to get jobs at livable wages. All of them are not in sweat shops, bathrooms and kitchens of your every day restaurant. They are all over.
I have walked into major stores like Macy’s, Burlington Coat Factory, Marshalls and TJ Maxx and have been innundated with workers who clearly spoke english as a second or even third language. Some of them did not enunciate well and had comprehension problems.
Do you think that in any major metropolitan region, like mine, it is impossible to find “regular” Americans who clearly speak english and can operate a cash register and stock merchandise?
I believe that something else may be going on. Many immigrants discriminate against nonimmigrant Americans who whose only language is english. I know family, friends and co-workers with stories about applying at various places full of immigrants and they can’t get hired. They will even lie and say that there are no openings, yet, immigrants or people who look and speak their language are being hired.
But, I will bet you will not see the other side in the mainstream media, except maybe Fox News.
You are probably right when you say that the average person does not understand policy. But, the average person is astute enough to know that he/she cannot find a job to feed himself/herself or his/her family, is in foreclosure or one paycheck away from being destitute, but has a President who talks but doesn’t deliver on “those policies” that make a difference in their everyday lives.
And, actually, that it about all they need to know. If policy does not deliver concrete programs and jobs that meet people’s basic needs for food and shelter, then they are worth no more than the paper they are written on and should be sent to the shredder!!!
In the 25 years at my job, the janitorial jobs went from 80 per cent Black–20 percent White, to 100 percent Hispanic/Latino. Once they got a foothold in, they broughtt in their own kind and pushed the Blacks and Whites out.
One of the Human Resources managers was Hispanic and he replaced the Director of the Janitorial services with another Hispanic ( once that position was vacant) That new Hispanic Director then hired only their kind, and eventually pushed out all the Blacks and Whites.
What you say is true Jalen.
Our Civil Rights groups are so concerned about helping everybody except their own kind FIRST!
powerful!
Barbara, I agree with you, get a Hispanic, Chinese, or Indians in a position for hiring, and you notice they get rid or workers with a quickness and employ their own kind.
@powerful!
I agree with you on one poin, because I was asking myself the very question that you put to all of us who read this piece. I have considered how Obama has stuck his neck out for Gays and Latinos, but he has yet to take a out of the closet stand on any issue concerning Black America. I, like Obama see black issues as American issues, therefore I don’t want to believe that there should be policies created only for us. Issues facing Black folks cannot be fixed by legislation. This nation has tried that. For Black Americans to fully live the dream in this nation, the minds and hearts of non-black Americans must change towards America’s Black citizens. Obama has tried to make it possible for all Americans to get healthcare and a good education, which happens to be some of the things that Blacks are lacking more than any other group, but healthcare and education are issues that all Americans deal with, not just Black Americans. The President can’t make non-black folks hire us, allow us into their schools etc. Affirmative Action was put in place for that, yet Latinos, women (especially White women) and some Asians benefit from AA more than Blacks by leaps and bounds. Black Americans still must contend with negative attitudes, and one cannot legislate how people feel about Black Americans. As a group, Black Americans must learn the benefits of loving and caring enough for each other to stop the black on black crime in our neighborhoods, and the jealously of seeing one of our own succeed, and Black men must see the value in raising our children with their mothers. No President can change the hearts and minds of a people! All that Obama owes Blacks America, is to be a good American as he holds the office of President.
Blame the victim syndrone another negro problem.
My concern with your comments are that they appear irresponsible in an election year. While you continue to complain about President Obama’s failings, in your opinion, you are not addressing the only competitor he has in the upcoming election. By implication, you are encouraging a vote for Mitt Romney, as if he would do more for African-Americans than President Obama. They are our only options this year. Is this your intent? Are you seriously endorsing the other candidate in this Election Year?
Last time I checked, politicians support the constituents who Communicate with them with persistence. In my opinion, you are whining to us and by default endorsing Romney as if he would do better by us.
Shame on you.
Vote for your great white hope then…..as usual….
Ok Obamabot. He continues to publically help gays, women, and Latino’s and you won’t even threaten to pull your vote from him.
I, black woman, want the same equal rights for everybody else that I want for myself and my family. We black people should be ashamed to be bigots and racists. Two rights don’t make a wrong, and Truth is no respecter of persons.
What the h**l are you talking about. First black people should care about black people first, last I check we aint in a good condition but our president seems to be more focused on people who shouldn’t be here, white women and gays and for that I am not voting and I will try to get as many black people not to vote. We can not continue to be ignored by the right and taken for granted by the left. The only time this white house and the dems have did anything for blacks while obama has been in office is with the voting rights violations wow how obvious why didn’t they try to federalize voting standards when they had power I mean this aint new but gearing people up for an election with racism is easier when you cant do it by telling them what you did for them.
Short sighted point… Obama’s presidency cannot represent a direct change for Black America.. plain and simple, it just can’t. Why we raised the bar so high for him when we have NEVER done it for any other president is beyond me? Because he is black he is expect to directly show us favoritism? This is ludicrous! This is talk filled with desperation, like he was expected to be our Moses. Come on this guy has been embroiled in trying to save this country from total financial ruin! He has the car back on the road and running, but he will never get credit for it from anyone. No matter what he does it will never be enough.
Dr. Watkins,
You have added yet another false choice to the debate about the effectiveness of President Barack Obama. President Obama is NOT the President of “Team Black America.” So, as long as you compare him to the mythical leader of Black America, you are always going to be disappointed in his performance.
He is the leader of Team Democratic Party — and that team is trying to get him re-elected to President of “Team America.”
There are many constituencies in the Democratic Party Big Tent — Team Black America is one of those constituencies. The reality is that the range of socio-economic diversity on Team Black America actually makes the team look a lot like the whole of America — we have LGBTs, Latinos, Women, Middle Class, Union Workers, Teachers, Fire Fighters, Cops, and small business owners. When these constituents are helped, so is Team Black America.
Yes, Blacks are disproportionately poor, under-educated, and unemployed, as well as more negatively impacted by the economic recession. But that is not the condition of most of Team Black America. It may the squeaky wheel clamoring for more grease, but the advocates for these constituents — like yourself — should continue as loudly and strongly as you are. You need to form stronger coalitions with other constituents, and not blame the President for your disappointment with the outcomes achieved, or not achieved.
I don’t think that the President has taken the Black vote for granted. He is still offering a better deal than the alternative. The choices he is offering are wrapped in a bigger package. Don’t lose sight of the bigger picture. Ultimately, we all want to be on a winning “Team America.”
As smart an intelligent as you, Tavis Smilly an that other foolish professor Tavis nappy headed friend thats not smart enough to comb his hair Cornell West better known as the Baffoon Crew, you all sit an talk about President Obama like he can undo all the pass 300 years, you guys should know its gonna take a long time an a lot more blacks to be elected to the White House to Governorships, Mayor of Major Citys before we as blacks see real change or to right the wrongs that american black is living today, you guys cant convince me that what you are doing in front of white america, all in the media or in front of who ever listen. The majority of blacks still back President Obama, an i think that we should, but its almost like you want reverse racism, which would be totally wrong. You posted the town hall meeting with Louis Farrakhan a couple of days ago from 2007 an even in it he said that President Obama couldn’t change the United States of America because the powers that be would not let him, an i saw all you jack a***s jumping up shouting amanning like he had just recited the 10 commandments, but before he was sworn into office you Baffoons started with your Baffoonary an d*****g him out, I know black folk is in need of help but so is the rest of America, get America fixed 1st. Can President Obama clean up the mess GW Bush left him, i dough it but he has started, the economy is better than it was 5 years ago, people are starting to go back to work, foreclosures or down for the 1st time in 4 years, unemployment is down from double digits when he took office, it’s a lot you don’t talk about but tell me or us you llisteners what would u have done differently, how would the Baffoon Crew have gotten all these black rules put into place, around congress, the senate, the supreme court, lol, i dont think you can answer these question truthfully, I think your just trying to blow smoke up our a***s to keep your job, lol, maybe them white folk done put you an the Baffoon Crew in line like some good house niggars, see the powers that be also tell you an the Baffoon Crew what you can say an print, in other words they write your checks. I think President Obama’s approach is about right, chip away a lil at a time, but the Baffoon Crew just gonna go boguard, make them change the laws, lol, someone need to take you guys intelligent card, because your not as intelligent an you think you are, it take ball to run for the top office in the land, something it appears the Baffoon Crew don’t have, or whats wrong to many skeletons in in your closets, Big minds speak of ideas, medium minds talk about events an small mind talk about people, Baffoon Crew you have small mind’s HATERS
why you could not trade him for a black courageous black
president. This goes to show how black self hatred is portrayed
in our community, always looking for whites to save you, instead
of dealing with the problems in our own community.there are
plenty strong black men with courage to do what obama did not.
you talk about racist whites, but you wanna run to them to solve
black problems.you are a writer writeing in hypocrisy. Now how can
i ever take your rationale seriously in your articles.
Just one question, what didn’t Obama do? I’ve been asking this question of everyone who’s been saying it but nobody seems to have an answer. Maybe you have one because if you do I would love to hear it.
EDUCATION IS A MEMORY GAME,AND IT DOES NOT COME WITH
COMMON SENSE,AND EVERY MAN THAT DO NOT HAVE IT IS A
EDUCATED FOOL.Mr. BOYCE,YOUR RATIONALE DOES NOT MATCH
YOUE EDUCATION.YOUR RATIONALE MATCHES THE HOUSE
NEGRO WHEN YOU THINK ANOTHER NEGRO HAVE DONE
SOMETHING WRONG,YOU GO TELL YO MASSA TO FIX THE
PROBLEM BECAUSE YOU SELF HATE YO SELF.
Race and racial politics are tricky things. It should be obvious to anyone paying attention that President Obama (by virtue of being the first black person to hold his office) is judged by an entirely different standard by friend and foe alike. Unlike his dominant culture predecesors, President Obama must assuage the racial anxiety of even the most progressive supporters by assuring them that his is a administration is one for all people. This phenomenon is true for the black mayor who receives majority support as well as for the corportae CEO, school district superintendent and a host of black people who are expected to repay dominant culture supporters by not being too black. Dominant culture persons can be expected hire, promote and mentor in their image, while non
dominants are watched carefully to make sure they do just he
opposite.
One need only recall how alarmed many in the dominant culture community became over the President calling [stupid] Cambridge police officers stupid, to understand just how threadbare support can be for black folk who are [even] “perceived” to be advocates for black people. There is a reason John Edwards could stand in the 9th Ward of New Orleans and wax eloquent about poverty and its affect on black people and Barack Obama could not, for had he done so his “mile wide and inch deep” support among dominant culture supporters would have evaporated in an nanosecond. It appears that in spite of the things this President has done to benefit the black community, large pockets of his support within our community is shaky as well.
Just an under cover uncle Tom.dis is why we are still behind, brothers like u.
In the history of the United States, all of the rules and laws have been written to most benefit the rich white men, this was very evident even with our last president, the shrub, who was willing to destroy this country for the greed of a few wealthy men. What President Obama has been trying to do in his term is to make this country equal for ALL, doing so while battling the say no to everything Rebulicans…and even more disturbingly the ‘supporters’ who apparently heard Pres Obama make specific promises to them duing his election campaign…which he absolutly did not. Now, basic logic should create the understanding that if we increasingly establish a society that is more equal for all, then the people who benefit the most would be those who have less equality…and since the black community continuously claims to have the least equality, then we are benefiting the most from the EQUALITY FOR ALL legislation President Obama HAS passed. You don’t have to specifically target someone to help them…too bad all of the black Obama naysayers can’t get that simple logic through their thick heads…
DR. NOT you how smart is this ma n.I wouldn’t give a d**n. about how much he has or hasn’t done. One things for sure this country and black people are better off with Obama that we were with “The Bushes” , his opponents the last electiin McCain/ dumb a*s palin, and now this election (Romney ) you know dude ive supported you on about 99% of your topics and missions brother you have lost me. Leave this president alone Obama has been treated so bad by white America, mwdia, and congree .Now here you are with your negative bull s**t this is bad
What is it with you idiot black men of little prominence like yourself, Cornell West, that other fool Tavis Smiley who claims to only have two pairs of shoes and others that down the President because you don’t see him doing what you want for blacks. The man has had his plate full since he walked in the White House door and has taken more harassment than any previous president in the country’s history. He does not need the likes of you and other so called educated black buffoons pecking at his brain while trying to deal with the Tea Party and other Republi-KKK-ant jerks. Besides, what is the so called black agenda you guys are howling about like starving puppies that is so important and doesn’t fit into the everyday national agenda for all citizens of the country. Are you upset because you haven’t made the White House guest list?
Boyce stated :” I just believe in demanding something in exchange for my political support. ”
Well, I’d like to ask you what the hayell did you demand & get from any of the other white politicians that you may have supported…….Do you even VOTE?…….It’s black people doing and saying things like this at such a crucial time in a presidential election year, that are to the detriment of your own people…….That’s why Harriet Tubman had to hold the shotgun on her own and threaten to kill them rather than let them continue to be a slave when their freedom was just over yonder……..SMH.
OK, Boyce (refuse to use Dr. in front of your name, for you seem to be less doctor and more patient in your writings), can you spare us from your passive-aggressive rants of late? One op-ed has you all but drinking the president’s bath water and the next reads like a scorned “what-has-he-done-for-me/us-lately”. Take your meds, pick a stance and stick with it. You’re very confusing sometimes.
Do you even know all that he’s accomplished?……..Do you really expect someone to believe that this has no affect on your black life/living?

President Obama is featured on the cover and the caption reads: WHY ARE OBAMA CRITICS SO DUMB?
8. “If President Obama were white, he would be hailed as a tax-cutting, terrorist killing, business friendly, and right-leaning centrist that deserves re-election and a place of honor on Mount Rushmore.”
First of all, I like Obama, but can’t stand, and will no longer put up with “the company he keeps.” And I am referring to all of those d**n anti-Jesus Jewish crooks, who are bossing him and running the whole show. Just as other Jews are also the masters of “Uncle” Tom Joyner and Steve Harvey. So I might would still stick with Obama if he could and wold, but can’t, get rid of some of those Jews, and add a FEW strong black advisors, instead of little Miss Valerie Jarrett, who is also a flunky for the Jews, and that old gang of whites that have long ran Chicago. However, I will NOT stand with you, Brother Boyce, on your selection of Father Pfleger. And I don’t know of ANY white, at this point, that I might support, but would like to see Colin Powell as president, no matter his ties to the Republican Party, which I don’t like. He seems to have more of what it takes, and what is needed. Obama has too much of his momma in him, and not nearly enough of his father. So find fault in Obama, but will some of you blacks beg, borrow, buy or steal enough nerve to stand up and tell the truth about these d**n Jews and their domination him, and just about all blacks. — Rev. George Brooks
I agree with everything you’ve said; however, Steve Harvey does not fit into your list of misfits. Steve has supported the President from day one and has vigorously defended him at every opportunity.
First, Dr. Boyce their is nothing wrong with being partial to our first AA president. Second, any other vote other than OBAMA would be worst for AA. Last, my cousin lives in Chicago and she says “Father” is always out there fighting for something.
First, he is not Obama, he is President Obama.
Second, you are one “IGNORANT” piece of work.
Dr. Boyce:
I’m appalled at the fact that you don’t support or even give President Obama the benefit of the doubt. What President, white or black, in their right mind would advocate for African Americans in their first term? Don’t you know that would be presidential suicide?
I’m optimistic that when President Obama wins his 2nd term, he will get African Americans what they duly deserve, in a good way. It takes more fix what’s wrong with African Americans but the other things he’s dealing with right now, is not as BIG as African American issues. Be still Dr. Boy!
What you and your other, black president, bashing brothers should be doing now is making notes in the support of the, “Black Agenda”, on what your issues are. Make sure your a***s are there for the President because it seems like you’re the only ones bickering the most behind some bullshit that you have no control over. Don’t let your egos guide your already misguided minds!
You need to report to the dunce’s corner until you learn how to deal with grown folks business because President Obama is handling it, like a grown man, as smart as he can and will.
Furthermore, learn to be more optimistic. African Americans will know exactly when to stand up. They don’t need you to tell them what the h**l to do or what their needs are. It’s all apparent. African Americans will prevail! President Obama 2012!
Boyce I’ve always followed you but not anymore!!!
@REALLY, for real, you stated a mouthful.!!! Thank you.
Boyce Watkins; just when I thought you couldn’t stoop any lower you go and prove me wrong. The title of this article is so absurd that I’m truly ashamed that it could come from a person with black skin. You are an embarrassment to every formally educated black person in America. You are an embarrassment to every Back man, woman and child who has ever endured tremendous hardships in order to get a college education. You yourself are probably a product of Affirmative Action in some way but it’s apparent that you have no regard for the sacrifices of the people that made it possible for you to even get an education. The President is a Black man who has risen to the highest level attainable for any man in this country (Black or White) but the only thing you and your self-serving cronies can do is hate on him because he hasn’t invited “yall” to the White House. None of you have an inkling of the spine of this man. I listen to all this talk about what the President hasn’t done for the Black community; well let me tell you what he’s done for all true Black Americans. He graduated from Harvard with honors, became a U.S. Senator and now is the President of the United States, the most powerful position in the free world. A Black man Dr. Watkins. a true role model for every young Black child in America. Regardless of what happens from here; The President; Barack Hussain Obama has given the Black community the greatest gift of any Black person before him. For all the Black people who have fought and died just so Black people in this country could have just a little dignity and self-respect and be treated like a human being; how do you think they would feel if they could read your statement? It truly saddens me to know that there are Black people with so little pride and integrity that they would put their own self-interest before the good of all African-Americans.
James, I agree with most of your analysis regarding negative comments directed at President Obama’s style and process. Suffice to say – I have strongly disagreed with some of the President’s choices regarding policy issues, but I am mindful that despite President Obama’s shortcomings in dealmaking with the Republicans, I trust his vision for a just and educated America more than any Republican involved in national politics.
I am a strong supporter of The Affordable Healthcare legislation that might be overturned today by the Supreme Court. I much prefer President Obama select the next three or four Supreme Court nominees in order to protect the landmark law in case it has to be relitigated in President Barack Obama’s second term.
Professor Watkins and other President Obama critics should be mindful that the Republicans are a party of Do-Nothings. We must invest and innovate as a society in order to create opportunities for future generations of Americans. Doing Nothing isn’t an option.
Dr. Boyce, you have finally lost me as I have just today unsubscribed from your rant. In my view and going by your off and on anti-Obama stance, your web has always been a suspect, though some part has been informative. As an intellectual like me, you should have known that it is dump to join the non-black people to attack the first black to be a US president. It begs the question, do you hate Obama because he is light-skinned like Mellisa Harris Perry? Or because the black blood in Obama came directly from Africa? Whichever or whatever, clearly it shows that you are a confused intellect. I cannot take it anymore, so I unsubscribed from you. I will even ask colleagues to consider.
Thanks to all of you informed African Americans who see straight through this nonsense by Boyce. It is time to take action and let him know that his nonsense will not be tolerated any longer
One thing that is happening is that more and more African Americans are determined to support President Obama in spite of all of the bashing coming from Boyce and Company! I hope he continues his nonsense so that more people will be alerted to get out the vote.
Congratulations Boyce on your rantings and nonsense! I hope the $$$’s that you are getting is worth selling your soul to the devil!
Well, you really stirred the natives this time, and I was pleased to see that so many were willing to speak for Obama. I know what would happen if our first African American President tried to do what the black community needs. I would like to see more from blacks who have influence do more, want more than conversation, and was fortunate to work with many who had solutions in my early years.
Many blacks treated us harshly saying we were troublemakers, but we couldn’t afford to give up. At my age and with my experience I don’t trust any white leader to do what we need; not that there are none who are willing to do the right thing. I prefer to trust and believe in my own.
We are the crabs of the world. All people of other ethnic groups disagree, But become together as one I can not understand why we have a million different opions and can not come together because we are smarter than the other and we know all of the answers, and will not be moved. We watched all of our leaders die. for what? and still have not learned that together we stand. We are a sad bunch. We claim to love being black–but we are just begaining to accept being called black. You know that you are lieing. Your first black president who has gone through humiliation, chanary, lies, deseption, and hatred from you and the h**l from the republican party, and you will not stand with him. Do you think that if a republican wins, they will give you a better life? or will you stand with them just so that a black man don’t win? He has already been groomed by white America. Then here you come. You slave minded jealous negros. We are divided by religion, color, jeliousy, self hatred, and stupity. “I am smarter then he.” (but he made it to the white huse,) DID YOU? HE IS WORKING FOR THE COUNTRY. He can not consertrate on your dumb a*s at this time. Even though he has made a few moves for you, He has too much on his plate. Back him up. Don’t kiill him because you are jealious. Learn to reconize the feeling of jeliousy. If the republicans get back in there now, What do you think they will do with your dumb a*s? First: they will make sure that you never have another black president, Your education will really drop then. Jobs will drop more . Every thing that we fought for will die. They will make it known that your first black president was a too ignorent to hold office in this land. And you will be one step from slavory, right now you are two steps. worst than you are now. God help your grandchildren. If ther are any.
You said show you a bold statement by the President, because
he has made bold statements to latinos, gays and women.
Let start with the women, the Liedbetter act the says “woman
should get equal pay to men by law”. Next Latinos, he stated
that they have a right to be in this country if they where
brought here as children with their parents. Next, gays, he
stated that they have a right to marry whom they choose.
They can lose their life fighting for this country, but can’t
marry. Are these the “BOLD” statement that he made Dr?
Black people can marry, are already citizens, and in most
cases recieve equal pay to equal job. The point is you dislike
the President PERIOD! and it’s an obsession with you because
you are on here every day belittling his efforts under the
banter ” Why haven’t he done something for me” you are SAD.
One more thing. What the h**l is Mitt Romney’s official site
doing at the top of this page? Are you indorsing this man
Dr. Watkins ( no…we are not remotely related by blood or marriage) is on the money. I do not feel that President Obama has repaid his political debt to Black America. Every other ethic/ special interest group has seen their agenda advanced by this president…as it should be. NOT US THOUGH ! Obama needs to repay his political debt to Black America immediately…if it is not too late. In my humble opinion, President Obama can not count on record numbers of black voters coming out to support him in the next presidential election. Black folk are talking among themselves about this president ignoring the blight of our people.
Hopefully (for him) record numbers of white, gay-lesbian, and special interest groups will in the next election.
Can you possibly imagine how frustrating and sickening it is to hear people like you talking about what the President hasn’t done for the Black community. Once and for all: Tell me what is his political debt to the Black community, and secondly why does he owe it?
I will tell you. When he ask black people , not just american but he says black people vote for me, I as a black man say what will you do for me. This is how politics work incase you didnt know, and he has on his website African americans for Obama. Why is he singling us out when it comes to supporting him but he is president of all americans when it comes to supporting us. Look pass his complextion and you will see the truth that him and the democratic party takes blacks for granted.
@ DWatkins, speak on it, your comments are on point! Many of us have been enlighten.
Boyce, looking at the majority of the comments here, I would give up hope on our race if it wasn’t for the fact that a lot of Blacks now realize Obama is not for Black. Unfortunately the chains remain on their brains no matter how much evidence exist they will continue to blindly follow Obama. If watching Obama stand bold for and do for all others, including appointing, and putting a Hispanic woman and another White woman on the Highest Court of the Land (Blacks excluded once again) don’t remove their blinders, then nothing will. Of course the Ob-ites will excuse him for that as well. @Jalen, @Barbara, your comments and experiences are shared by alot of us and increasing becuz we realize we can no longer support a President who has shown us time and time again he does not support issues affecting Black. Even with the Trayvon Martin issue, it took him a long time before he came forward and then all he would say (running from the race issue) is a carefully scripted Trayvon looks like me, BUT he immediately supported and boldly defended the White woman testifying she needs birthcontrol pills being called a hooker, BUT did not speak out against or support Ms. Sherrod when she was under attack. Those of us who speak truth to power know the Republicans don’t and won’t do right by Blacks because they never have, never will just like Obama, their actions tells us so, and there lies the problem, Obama shows he’s no different than they are. It’s funny how the Ob-ites accept Obama boldly doing for all others, but if Blacks expect (as we should) him doing for Blacks then we are expecting a handout, or want something for nothing, that we should not expect him to do for us we have to do it ourselves, while we watch him help others now, but we need to wait until next term, are they serious?
Boyce, keep doing what you are doing, you have alot more support than what is reflected here!
correction, chain on the brain refers to those who blindly follow Obama.
Daisy, I was about to say some mean and nasty things to you but then I realized that insulting you is pointless because you’re so clueless it would be a total waste of time. You’re just ignorant, and that’s a compliment considering how I really feel about you. I know you won’t understand this but I actually feel sorry for you.
James, what you really mean is you like me bcuz I checked you on your constant use of fks, sh_t and other ignorant words you’ve mastered using to attack those of us who refuse to blindly follow Obama while he takes you to the edge of the cliff and push you over it. I’m sure as you’re falling you will yell out an excuse for why he’s pushed you over it, and why we should follow. I appreciate your sympathies for me, but you better save them for yourself you’re gonna need them while you continue in your delusional state of denial….p.s. You must like my ignorance bcuz you continue to read my comments and responding to them!
@ james..don’t waste your time…daisy is a paid poster working for the repubs.
Who are you voting for? Just answer the question!! You still have not answered that. All you are doing is spewing this anti-Obama rhetoric. Are you voting for Romney?
You need to fu-k off you are a stupid idiot and you need to stop writing this column because I’m getting ready to stop reading it because you are going to force me to use the “N” word.
This guy is a nut!!!!!
There are a lot of bloggers that lambast Dr. Boyce and others calling them “uncle tom and house negros” ; but the real “uncle tom and house negros” are those that go to the white man’s job every day do every thing he say do to get money to drive luxury cars and big houses and get on the internet and sound off as if you are so great in the world and talk about the white man as if you did not kiss up to get a pay check from him, our foreparents had no choice it was for survival you are free and you could go back to the “mother land ” but stay here and do every thing the “white man “say just for a check shame on your thinking.
@joe l
you say in your defense of dr. watkins: the real “uncle tom and house negros” are those that go to the white man’s job.
i didn’t know watkins worked at a hbcu..that being syracuse university. good to know watkins doesn’t have to go to the white man’s job! lol
I too am amazed at how self proclaimed black voices constantly overlook the fact that even with an obstructionist opposing party, President Obama’s accomplishment are quite amazing. First, the U.S. Constitution does not state a specific number of votes required to pass legislation. Only that 2/3 of the members must be present to take a vote. The document specifically states the if legislation receives more than half the present votes it either passes or fails to pass. Filibuster is not a constitutional provision, and is downright treason in the face of the will of the people. It does not take 60+ votes to pass legislation as the pundit would have the masses believe. It only takes a simple majority. Knowing that American politics has been taken hostage by the Tea and Republican party to undermine President Obama, I think these so-called black intellectuals that purport themselves as speaking about black issue, as if someone asked them, would be calling for these politician’s who obstruct the legislative due process of the American people to be thrown in jail so President Obama can have a more robust agenda. It is truly brilliant that the Obama administration has been able to accomplish anything at all. I am surprised that we have spent a lot of time this past 3 1/2 years talking about propaganda and have not done what Latino’s, gay and woman have done in creating a untied front that gives rise to voicing our concerns as a people so that they have to be addressed and not ignored.
What I learned from the civil rights movement, Dr. King, Hajj Melik El Shabazz and many others is that we don’t come to the process complaining about what we perceive as problems we face. The problems are quite obvious! We come to the table with solutions to those problems and demand support for the remedies we choose. Affirmative Action isn’t a governmental action in and of itself. It embodied Dr. Kings vision. Yes, he was a black man, but civil rights was for every who was opposed by America’s backwardness and not just for African American’s. Affirmative Action benefited other groups more than black because other groups became more organized and galvanized around their issues, while we blacks as a people are all over the map. We cannot agree on anything and are totally disagreeable about everything. However, we do agree the Boyce is out of line with this one!
After reading many of the comments on this sight I beg seriosly to differ. Barack Obama is not God. He is not the man that was or will knock on our individual doors and ask us what can I do for you? Our support for him is not infact mandatory for his life, but in the majority his support for us is. It would seem as if he’s done nothing tol increase our wealth, make us respected in the world and supply us with the much needed employment to feed our families and help our communties succeed in a world of abusers to our kind. This is simply not true. Let’s look at another perspective.
First, the nay sayers as I would refer to them are nothing more or less than haters. Their reasons for hating or going against President Obama relate to no more than jealousy and personal financial gain. If Dr. West who sits in a position of power everyday were to put forward an agenda to specifically administer help to the thousands of black youths who could advance in some many ways it would be commendable. Yet why hasn’t he. He’s occupied a position of respect and authority for many years in our community, however, I have yet to hear of any organization initiated by him as a template to our success. As Dr. West has the advantage of being a professor at Princeton University, the same opportunity exists for him at Howard University or Morehouse College. Yet he chooses to stay while interjecting as often as he can about how and why President Obama has chosen to let Black America down. He wasn’t elected to be the Black Community America President. He was elected to be the President of the United States. For him to carry his responsibility in that vein would counteract everything he chose to do for African Americans since he has to walk a fine line between his wants and deeds regarding us and the many persons who everyday block his aspirations to make our lives more successful in every way. Let’s look a little closer. I’ve always believed one should vote their interests. Vote the party that best represents your needs. The party that hears you desire to have a better, safer life. Vote the party that understands what a black persons like is like and how government can…and does play an integral part in multiple aspects of our lives. As I say vote your interests, I mean. The issues President Obama has fought hard to achieve as I see it, for us, more than most, have been consistently block by a strong united Republican opposition. We have all been privy to his struggle and yet we can only find additional ways to make his position even more difficult by not supporting his endeavors in what I feel are first. Change isn’t always visible or announced as some blacks seem to want it to be. Change is often times between the lines, especially when it seems it could be deemed someone else’s reward and not ours. Further, everything he’s fought for these few years have shown great reward towards us. Answer this, among society who needs, mortgage modification, tuition reduction, medical coverage, jobs, tax relief, national security assistance (Amnesty International Issues) immigration laws and most of all a seat at the table of respect that is viewed throughout the world, because of him. If in fact, you cannot see the fight President Obama has fought for all of us, I’m sorry. The core issues are the issues that matter to us, every way, everyday, in the black community. During the Bush years (8) to be exact, when everything important to our community was consistently overlooked, yet the response from coming from the black community was miniscule at best. However, the onslaught of complaint for President Obama is relentless. How much more can be done. He has campaigned for every Democratic position in this country and almost begged us to keep them in office because that is where are additional hope would come from. Republicans don’t see us, and will never acknowledge our desire to improve. Few of us listened, now look where we are. Republicans dominate, both the house and the Senate, which only served to ensure the obstructionism against his agenda. Many of his opposers, have had ample opportunity to offer their expertise to help their community, however made no move to bring it to fruition. What the they have done is use the very image, idea and obstructionism not only from all the legislative branches in washington but also their own. Many cultures have existed in America for hundreds of years, yet how man of these cultures chose to destroy their leaders only to serve their own individual interests, not many. As we continue to go without our own self respect, yet demand other respect the very images we present to them everyday (this blog included) we must ask ourselves. Who do we have, who hears us, who is resisting and who is taking the ultimate risk to give us a voice at the table. Like it or not, Barack Obama is us. When the world views him, they see us. We should think and give ourselves the same image. This election will be history making. It will change the world…our world vastly. Should it go to the Republicans OUR world, will absorb an unimaginable hardship. The next President will appoint three Supreme Court Justices. With the majority being conservative, they will fight first to reverse Roe v. Wade, then turn all their might on overturning Civil Rights, which speaks directly to our level of comfort and opportunity in this country. None of our interests will be noted, we MUST put our interests in perspective and vote Barack Obama back into office. The reality is that Barack Obama doesn’t need us to live we need him. If he loses this Presidential Race he can go back to private live. Live a good life as a millionare and change the world on a singular level as we all can. However, he has chosen to fight for us. In this fight (which may not be visible) the obstructionism should not be coming from his own community. It’s disrespectful, unintelligent and self depreciating to risk the only bridge we have, between them and us.
Don’t believe all you hear, and what the Republican, work hard to make you believe. Think about all of this, look deeper into our circumstances and………….Vote you interests.
Well said Sandy.
Most thinking people will disagree with President Barack Obama on some of the hundreds of policy issues he deals with on a regular basis. That fact doesn’t mean those of us who support the Democratic Party should lose our minds and fail to vote or vote for reactionary and racist teabag/Republicans.
I am a student of national politics and I can state without doubt, if the Confederate/Republicans win the presidency and a majority in the Senate. I believe the Republicans would repeal Roe v Wade, privatize Social Security & Medicare, and repeal the Affordable Care Act. And stack the Supreme Court with rightwing bigots for the next 25 years.
Re-electing President Barack Obama to a second term is our best hope of avoiding the disasterious policies the Republicans would institute. I don’t want to live in a teabag/Republican controlled America.
I’m done. Today I am unsubscribing
See ya!
The more I read, The more hopeless I realize it is for us…
I agree with Dr. Boyce on this point…. I would gladly take a white courageous president over a mediocre black president. We need to president to support and protect our rights, and our futures… Our children’s futures.. I dont need for him to be black… Thats nice to see a black president in office, but other than that its not worth sh*t…
Stakes are too high right now… we need the best, most courageous president out there..
Barack Obama said he was a CHANGE AGENT… HE IS NOT. he is simply another president doing all the c**p the white presidents did..
As I read these comments from the usual Obama apologists I see that him being black is quite enough for alot of folks…
We are doomed if they can put a black face in front of you and have you accept the same policies that would cause an uproar if a white president had tried to pass them off..
The sad part I dont think black folks understand is that THEY HAVE YOU FIGURED OUT. They know you’ll accept BS if it is given to you by a black person. They know you love Obama more than you love yourself. They know you arent really paying attention and you think this is about protecting a black man…lol.
We got the same wars going on and same foreign policies. We got the president OBAMA taking away our constitutional rights BY EXECUTIVE ORDER, and you still love him as he kicks you in your a$$.
He is not your friend, and he doesnt love you, he is doing his job. Protecting his masters which are the corporate and military industrial complex…..You are just a resource to used up, unless you stand up prove otherwise. Either you make him serve YOU, or he will serve someone else at your expense… We have the numbers (and Im talking all Americans not just black folks) but we need to get ourselves together and stop letting these politicians serve the banks and war profiteers, and prison industrial complex, and the corporate interests.. Its us or them.. They got the money but we have the numbers and the sheer resources in terms of people. They cant live if we dont cooperate.. People need to understand that use the power we have.
I remember a comedian saying he had given up on Americans a long time ago.. He said he will just sit back and watch the US crumble..
I always thought that was such a pessimistic view, but now I am starting to see where he is coming from. Its pretty late in the game. The people advising the President are telling him to screw you and serve the banks, and corporate gods… And guess what? He is going to do it unless we can come up with a way to make him serve us.
Moeblues, Ditto, Ditto, Ditto. However, I think Obama is in a learning curve. He was left with a Big Business, Republican country that was furthered and set into this direction by Regan and carried to perilous destructive heights by Bush and Chaney. America is slowing being consumed by corruption and greed. Obama has some serious weaknesses as a leader and country rebuilder, however. He appears to be a poor team building, vital to successful governance. I think he is lacking in talents for wise appointments and meeting with his cabinet and advisors. His talent searches are rigid and unimpressive. He reminds me of a CEO that micromanages and this is not the way a country is ruled. If Romney is elected, I feel this country will be irretrievable from its downward spiral into the total possession of big business and ultimately perhaps only leaving revolution as the only remedy for the 99% since elections appear to be getting futile. Trickle down economy, privatization of entitlements, all these are components created for the enrichment of the 1% who are no more deserving than the majority of people in this world. Ingenuity, brilliance, and inventiveness should be rewarded but not too the extremes that we are allowing it to be carried to – salaries of CEO, tax breaks, outsourcing, repealing the Glass-Steagall act, etc. In fact, it is the majorities’ stupidity that plays into their aggrandizement. I see the Republicans as the stooges of Big Business and this will be the ruination of this Country.
We have been kicked in our behind ever since were’ve been on these chores by the 10/1 %. Why are we rushing to get rid of this Brother. We’ve given the White People all of this time, why can’t we give this Brother Eight(8) years. He’s only had Three &
1/2 and no help from the Republicans. They told the world what their plans was on day one. Make sure that he is a one term President. Why are we helping them do this. Why aren’t we trying to help this Brother fight this Devil. What’s the Problem???
I really don’t know my brotha. I am educated and refuse to hop on this bandwagon. I support Obama and will help his campaign as much as I can.
This is so daunting! Seems like everyday there is an article bashing Obama. Oh, but this one is much different because you prefaced it with ” I do not hate Obama.” Why the preface hmmmmm. Surely Obama could not have got into office and gone all black panther party are YOU SERIOUS! He is the President of AMERICA not Black America. Damit this is not “Your black world” IT’S AMERICA SERIOUSLY! All that education you “educated negros” have and yet you can’t grasp something that simple. Let’s attack Obama he should be doing this and that. However has made it to and is sitting in the white house and you well I guess you will always have “Your Black World” I support the Pres always have and always WILL!! #OBAMA 2012
Good Morning All,
I Hope You Had And Enjoyable Independence Day or 4th Of July With Family And Friends.
While Enjoying This Holiday, Did Anyone Discuss Or Debate Any Resolve To Our Perpetual Challenge Of The Divided People?
Why And How Do We Expect President Obama Alone To Fix All Of The Problems In Our Cummunities.
I Have Committed My Vote To ReElect President Obama Because His Spirit Is Right. I See That God Has Taken The Son Of This African Man And Kansas White Lady And Tasked Him With The Stewardship Of The Highest Office In The Land. He Has Endowed Him With The Wisdom That Applies.
Our Communities Have All Of The Resources Within Ourselves To Create The Beauty, Jobs, Good Health, And Anything That We Desire If We But Decide And Commit To Do So. Oneness And Collective Effort Are The Missing Catalysts.
Boyce, Cornell, Tavis, Professional Athletes, Entertainers, Doctors, Lawyers, Bankers, Educators, Builders, Seem To Have Lost Sight Of The Foundation Laid By Our Forefathers To Advance Our Abilities To Create.
Let Us ReElect President Obama For The Overall Good Of The Land. Then, Let Us Focus Upon Uplifting Our Communities For Future Of Our Children By ReInvesting Our Dollars Within.
Remember, We Are A Resiliant People. Our Resourses Reach All The Way Back To Africa. The Resolve To Elevate Our Lives Is Within A United Us.
Dr. Boyce, I try to read your articles everyday, thus, I am not going to call you any disparaging names. However, as I have said, many times, before some of us have to look in the mirror and accept the blame for our position. The reasons for this are we dropped out of school too early, got thrown into prisons, and we hardly ever try to correct those mistakes…. If we had listened to Min. Farakan(sp) and others like him when they were preaching to us about developing our economic base we would not be look to others now!!!
I read an article the other day by somebody from the President’s Administration/re-election Committee, who said that the President has done three (3) things for the African American community and they are as follows: 1) the health bill; 2) same punishment for crack as for powder cocaine; and 3) funds to further education. Is that true, in your opinion?
I personally think he deserves a second term considering the mess he inherited and the opposition he received from the house.
Dr Boyce:
I’m outraged by your article. YOU’RE writing all these negative comments against PRES. OBAMA because of your two buddies. WEST AND SMILEY.
PEOPLE: WE NEED TO “UNSUBSCRIBE” FROM BOYCE’S WEBSITE.
HE’S TRYING TO MAKE A NAME FOR HIMSELF BY BASHING PRESIDENT OBAMA!!!!
I Have Committed My Vote To ReElect President Barack Obama Because We All Know That He Is The Most Qualified For The Job. The Three And A Half Years Of Experience In The Office Will Assure Us Of His Increased Confidence To Serve The People Of This Great Nation.
I Find That Many Other Ethnic Groups Have Committed To ReElect President Obama Because They Have Observed The Character And Integrity Of The Man. I Am Certain That Many Of Us Have Made Our Commitment.
Enjoy Your Day.
Many more of us Blacks would be supporting Obama too, if he put the same committment and support for Blacks like he has openly and boldly done for those other Ethnic Groups who you say are supporting Obama. It’s very simple they are supporting him because he’s directly supporting them, and not thru the catch a crumb affect, but supporting them SPECIFICALLY because of who they are and their issues, while Blacks are being told to help themselves. Shame on Obama!
Dr. Boyce, when you find one please let me know.
Black folks who read this garbage by Boyce, please UNSUBSCRIBE
Now!!!! This will show Boyce,Tavis,West exactly what Black folks can do together. Bring them to their knees, since we as blacks are stupid enough to vote for Obama.Every race is together except Blacks.Everyone knows it except black folks lets do something on one accord.UNSUSCRIBE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You will learn a great lesson!! Boyce and friends will learn about Black people power!!!!!!!!!
I learned long ago that when Someone starts a statement with, “It’s not about the money.” Then, “It’s about the money.”
So, when Dr. Boyce Watkins starts this article with,
“1) No, I don’t hate Barack Obama…”
“2) No, I don’t think that Father Michael Pfleger would …”
“3) Critiquing Obama does not make me a “hater,” “Uncle Tom”…”
Well, you draw your own conclusions regarding what this is about.
I Am Getting Sick & Tired Of These Racist Pieces Of Trash Belittling & Blaming President Obama For All This Mess Bush, Regan & Other Repulbicans Created. If President Obama Don’t Get Re-Elected A Lot Of Racist Pieces Of Trash Is Going To Leave This World Soon.
Rommey ain’t that guy.
Barack Obama is the president of the Unites States and not tge African American community. It is crazy to place the burden of our issues on this president and demanded nothing from the others. There are many others who ca neffect change in our communities, but they do not. We can effect change, but we so nothing but complain. We continue to spend our hard earnes money with companies that so not support our neighborhoods, schools, churches, small businessea, etc. Upon achieving some level of success, we will not stay to build up our own communities. We flee to white surburbia and begin taking on the mentality of our oppressors. Or if we do help in some ways, we feel the community owes us something. We are afraid ro teach others what we know because we don’t won’t the competition. And you think Obama should has not done anything for the community. Dr. Boyce, do you have a nonprofit agency that will help convicted felons reintegrate into society with through job placement and fiscal responsibility and parenting courses? Are our celebrities sending out all calls to community organizing? Are they founding home ownership efforts to help struggling families get out of the projects? Those with wealth, how many of them are starting schools with strong and identity rich curriculums for.our babies? It’s Obama’s responsibility? How many black men and women are opening grocery stores, doctors offices, retail shops, etc in the communities rhat they were raised in? Is the black church really dealing with the social issues of the community it serves? The recession does effect our community more, buoy what have we done within the past sixty years to improve our social and economic health? Regardless of whom we choose as president, our issues are local. We have let classism, sexism, internal racism, and religion distract is from reestablishing our community. We so long to he accepted by others that we have damaged ourselves in the process. We can’t look to just the president, but we need to look at our mayors, city councilman, school boards, state leaders, pastors, business men and women, mothers, fathers, families..once we have done the work to build the foundation for social and economic stability, then we can look to our president.
There’s been a lot said. I hope you are listening Dr. Boyce. I am sure that you would be one of the first to endorse the concept of unity within the black community yet you are using this platform to speak out of both sides of your mouth. Sound familiar? I will no longer allow you to waste my precious time with your petty, insipid, luke-warm, small-minded journalism. I would not be surprised to find that you are really a pimply-faced, white man hiding out in an attic apartment somewhere in middle America! Get a life brother!
Utterly and completely ashamed of Dr. Boyce Watkins.
Unfortunately, the Newsweek cover got it semi-wrong. The title should have read: Why are Americans so dumb? It’s clear that many Obama critics are no smarter than those who manage to stretch any legitimate critique of a sitting President while black to be an attack against the race. While you may disagree with Dr. Boyce, very few actually attack his argument with anything nearing logic. To post a list of the President’s accomplishments is not enough. I don’t think any logical human being would say Obama has done nothing for the country or nothing for black people, but to say that this President has been great for black folk well data spits in your face–check the black unemployment numbers that came out today.
What have you done for ‘your people’ lately? You and your side kicks are some sick puppies! President Obama is one man and occupies only one branch of the govt. but you expect him to undo hundreds of years of raciusm in on term. He is flawed as man is but what have you done since becoming the FIRST Black Ph. D in Finance since that seems to be your badge of honor? But for the fact that I don’t like the word, x*x, please!
Ditto to Kathleen!!!!
Just look at us as a people on this piece by Dr Boyce! Black people there are a million Dr Boyce’s in our community….are we to go in a frenzy every time one spews his or hers dissatisfaction with the President? I am one not particularly happy with some of President Obama’s policies but I will never allow myself to become either a tool of white America ( to help tear down this man) or a p**n of black America just to follow a person because he or she is black. We were all given the greatest gift from God…a mind….please unwrap this gift and use it in the most positive way. Don’ t le the Boyce’s, the West’s, the Smiley’s, the Harvey’s etc influence your thinking in any manner….be you because everyone else is taken.
Dr. Boyce — You know the double standards used against blacks in positions of power. You know the reality of racism. Yet, you continue to bash President Obama and speak in favor of white candidates who you ASSUME will do a better job. Fact is, they will face the same limitations and challenges as Obama. They will not meet your expectations, believe me.
If there was such a courageous and competent white person as you assume there is, why is America in such bad shape as it is? Afterall, all previous presidents before Obama were white.
Get a grip. I, like many others, see through yours and Yvette’s attempts to degrade Obama’s presidency. It’s getting old. I do not take either of you seriously on anything you write about President Obama. I do respect your views on other issues, however, so I will continue to read items posted here periodically.
I would unsubscribe from your website if it were not for the fact that I like reading comments from other enlightened blacks who do not expect the first black president to walk on water, as you seem to assume he should.
Greetings Dr. Boyce,
I think you have a right to your opinion, but you don’t have a right to tell me up front before you present it, how I should interpret it. If you have such strong arguments to make that are so provocative, just make them, and let the chips fall. Starting with caveats seems suspect…
In November you will have a choice, President Obama or Mitt Romney. I guess there is a third choice for some, and thats for you not to vote. Which Dr.. Watkins has stated he may do. But, it appear some you think we have other options. What? I have been issues with the President, but at the end of the day he has my vote. If Romney wins, Dr. Watkins will still be a tenure professor, only he can revisits his complaints to Mitt and play both sides. If Dr. Watkins want to advance the cause for Africian-American he should spend a year sharing his knowledge at a HBC.
We should know what the issues that face Africian-Americans, it’s the solutions we have a problem with.
For me President Obama promoting and passing the Affordable Care Act was a big step for helping most Africian-Americans.
god its disheartening to see how racist the black community is on the whole. 2 trillion spent by big government to help american blacks. where did that money come from? objectively the worst by president in our history…by any rational indication. blacks way better off in USA than any other country on earth…by the way I work in africa, any africans, any africans would come here tomorrow if they could, that includes all races. all i hear is hate, racism, and total blind support for a totally unqualified and inept president. successful hard working white independents that have bent over backwards to be fair, promote opportunity and civility in our culture are near giving up and finding a place where freedom lives. where people are not looking for government to be everything and do everything for them when 96% of one racial group votes for a person because of their color, glosses over their incredible failures and calls it success its getting time to go elsewhere. god help you when we abandon ship.
