What’s Up With Kanye West and Nicki Minaj Worshipping ‘Vogue’ Editor Anna Wintour?

by Yvette Carnell

Remember when hip-hop was CNN for black people? News from the urban streets?  Now, not so much.

If you’re looking for true insight via the prism of mainstream hip-hip, don’t. Artists like Kanye West and Nicki Minaj are much more interested in singing the praises Vogue editor Anna Wintour than speaking on issues that impact black America.

In an upcoming song called “Thera-Flu”, rapper Kanye West brags about having dinner with Wintour, and Minaj boasts about sitting with “Anna” at the front row of an Oscar de la Renta fashion show. They’re both smitten with the fashion icon.

Idiots.

Do you hear “Anna” bragging about spending time with them? Of course not, but some black people are just so aspirational. It’s all about “keepin’ it real” … until it’s not. Until it’s about $6,000 shoes and hob nobbin’ at fashion shows.

Anna is influential, but she’s not hip-hop. And with what black people are going through, it sure would be nice to hear our stories on the airwaves instead hearing the Kings and Queens of hip-hop kiss a fashion editor’s a*s.

When I think of all the love and care Dondra West bestowed on her only son…it’s almost blasphemous that he is without a scintilla of ‘consciousness’. This is one of the most brainwashed men I’ve ever heard of. I’ll be so glad when he goes away. He has nothing but contempt and disrespect for Black women and idolizes all things non-Blacks. It boggles the mind that any Black woman could bring herself to support anything he’s attached to.
