Spike Lee Visits Wesley Snipes in Prison, Asks Fans to Reach Out

Wesley Snipes is currently a prisoner at McKean Federal Institute, but Spike Lee hasn’t forgotten about him, and recently went to visit the jailed actor.

“Yesterday I went to Pennsylvania to spend two great hours with my man Wesley Snipes,” said Lee via Twitter. “Mr. Snipes is in great shape, mentally, physically and spiritually. We laughed and joked for the whole two-hour visit. He said when he gets out — ‘It’s on.’”

When asked about Snipe’s physical condition, Lee said he’s in “Blade” shape. Spike Lee has also encouraged fans of Snipes to send letters of encouragement to the actor to keep his spirits up until 2014, when he will be eligible for release.

Wesley Snipes has publicly disrespected black women with biased comments in the past. I understand and respect Spike Lee because he is one of my favorite producers and writers who keeps it real and his heart is genuine towards his people. Wesley Snipes does not have that level of respect. I would suggest that Wesley Snipes shout out to the Asian women he prefers and loves and see how that works for him. I would also request that Wesley Snipes to do as much time as he can as other offenders. I will quietly pray for his strength until his time is completed.

I’m not reaching out to anybody. I am sick of these celebrities with millions. They live the high life, drive million dollar cars, visit the best restaurants in the world, have the finest women live in a mansion. PAY the man….or you are going to jail. What part of that don’t people understand. I am reaching out and saving my sympathy and support to the brothers and sisters who are incarcerated for matter of circumstance. No job, No money, No education, No family, No hope. All these celebrities, in my opinion can suck it up. I bet he has the best cell in the joint…..

      @Delle Henderson–I agree with you 100%, ALMOST.
Mr. Snipes got his comeuppance for toying with the government. I am disappointed that a man with such laudable talent as Wesley Snipes, would be so greedy and foolish.
      Wake up, Wesley!!!

As for Spike Lee, THE WOODY ALLEN WANNA-BE WHO WILL NEVER BE, what took you so long to visit Wesley? And when will you re-visit? Oh, that’s right, you have your publicity as a
good brotha. No need for more visits, hunh?

Dude is incarcerated in my home state, and I wouldn’t waste a drop of gasoline to visit, or a stamp to write. If Black women weren’t “good enough” for you when you were “on top”, they certainly aren’t “good enough” to give you moral support now.

I agree with the sister (Sherrie C)! Sadly, my brothers who disrespect their own seem to only prefer that connection when they get smacked down by “the other”. I deeply respect Spike Lee and what he has accomplished and I do enjoy Weslley Snipes as a great actor; but his real life “jungle fever” and disrespect for our women is something that, as a Black Man, I cannot accept.

Come on Spike!! Let the Asian women that Wesley Snipes so loved and put on a pedestal, write him, fix him a plate, and keep up his spirits. Snipes have felt very comfortable disrespecting Black women with his negative comments (Most of US haven’t forgotten) while giving such praise and admiration for Asian women. Snipes is pitiful and gettin just what he deserves!

Best thing Snipes can do in prison is write a letter to his fellow Black Man on how to apologize to Black Women for such disrespect and learn to value US cuz they might end of like him!

Spike, how about lifting the spirits and advocating for those wrongfully incarcerated, or were forced to plead deal because they are too poor to afford adequate counsel?

Personally, I do not like the fact of Welsey Snipes disrespecting Black women in the past. But that is in the past. We have to forgive. As for him marrying a women of Oriental heritage that was and is his choice. I am not going to lie. I do not like it. But people have to make their on decisions about who they love and want to marry.
Only concern is that I want the children to have a deep respect for their African-American father’s heritage and accept that as part of their heritage and culture. Tiger Woods is a prime example. He does not recognize or accept his Blackness…

It’s not that he chose Asian women, it is the fact, and I do mean fact, that he downed and totally disrespected Black women in his Ebony and other interviews. So the comments ur reading are from those of us Black women who remember Snipes and his very negative comments he made about us once he reached so he thought, the top. Forgive? I think not, he knew what he was doing, when he was doin it!

I totally agree Nicolette! Spike should use his media voice and demand JUSTICE for Trayvon Martin the young Black man (and his family) who was murdered because he looked suspicious to a racist, while Florida Law Enforcement has refused to arrest George Zimmerman, the racist demon who killed him!

Please! Use ur pens, voice/encouragement and support for this young Black man’s family….

That said, you have every right, and so do sistas. But we need to learn and/or accept how to get to a place of healing from all this POST TRAUMATIC SLAVERY DISORDER! We gotta stop countering every ARGUMENT WITH ANOTHER ARGUMENT! I personally LOVE and respect Black women. That’s my opinion and I’m entitled to it. Similarly, if Wesley has other preferences, he is entitled to them as well. Thank you Spike! Finding forgiveness seems difficult judging from some of these comments here. Part of keeping it “Real” is about forgiving others (especially if you ever want to be forgiven for anything). Just my two cents… BTW, here is how to contact Wesley:
    Write to Wesley:
    Wesley Snipes, #43355-018

Wesley Snipes is in jail for refusing to pay illegal taxes collected by a corporation that is NOT the government. Wake up to his real cause and stop making it a racist thing against your own. Think about it, if someone you respect like Spike Lee endorses him, maybe it’s time to look beyond your first reaction. I believe a lot of these comments are fabricated by the very organization that put him there, slurring the issue because THEY don’t want you to know he is a freedom fighter. Wakeupwakeupwakeup. George Carlin had the same message. They are coming for your pensions. He is dead now.

I too remember when Wesley said when he wanted a women to bring him a cup of tea he wanted it without any lip like black women always give. Therefore I have not seen any of his movies since he made those comments. I also would like to address the hateful remarks spike made about Tyler Perry!! spike does not have to agree with Tyler’s ideas but to publicly demean the brother was immature and wrong. spike if you feel that Tyler promotes black stereotypes maybe you should take your bourgeois butt and speak with many of us who have family members exactly like those characters in Tyler’s movies. The most important thing about his movies are the positive messages of respect, love and family..

Talk about hating, there appears to be some angry black women out there with Wesley Snipes. For those women who considers themselves Christian please read Matthew 6:15, now this is no excuse for Mr. Snipes remarks and it surely might ‘define’ his character, but your resolution to his statement “is” a defining characteristic to “who” you are! That being said, I think it a good thing to write Wesley Snipes because afterall, “he is” a blackman suffering (self-inflicted) the indignity of incarceration. We all know the disproportionate incarceration of blackmen in the United States my a “just us” system that sees color before justice. I will write the brother because I don’t think anyone should be locked up like an animal especially for the kind of violation he committed. If he was willing to pay “back taxes w/penalties” than he should have been given a lesser sentance. For those of you don’t have a clear understanding of “who” the IRS or Federal Reserve really is, I recommend that you purchase and read the book entitled, “Web of Debt” by Ellen Hodgson Brown, J.D., it will definitely enlightened your mind about the “shaft” the American people are getting from the “elitist 1%” and the “sellouts” (including our current president). Knowledge is power, we need to get more knowledge to gain more power! I think that Wesley Snipe had a “glimpse” of knowledge about the IRS, but he didn’t have enough knowledge about “how” to deal with the IRS or their power. I’m sure he knows now both the power of the IRS and the resentment of blackwomen regarding his statements. Now he has plenty of time to contemplate both of these miscalculations!

@Richard, I am one of the most not angry harmony making aand harmony keeping happily married black woman who is a Christian and servant in the community anyone will meet. Snipes was forgiven when I read the comments years back and I prayed Father forgive him for he knows not what he does (or says), but that does not mean I have to write Snipes. And there is nothing not Christian about that. Snipes knew he had to pay taxes. Hubby and I report income on 2 small businesses each..We although we do not have to disclose as much income as Snipes, nevertheless he was responsible for paying taxes like all of us or ask the right questions to get assistance. We can be ever so heavenly minded and no earthly good.

@ Sherri so well put, you just took the air out of sir Richard!! @Richard ” angry black women” really? That term is so played out and is only used as a defense for limited minds who use it as a convience response to try and further degrade black women, which doesn’t work with those of us who know better. Black men and women do each other a disservice using the brainwashed term “Angry Black Woman”….. you notice “Angry” is not a term used to discribe any other race of women who do not allow themselves to be used and abused especially by black men, yet one will continue to praise them for their strength, and you know this is true. In fact many of these other races of women openly disrespect you, calling you and your mothers every name in the book, then walk away from you and the children you have with them, yet likemindeds like you will not label them “Angry”. It doesn’t matter whether you believe it or not but the comments are not from “Angry Black Women”, the comments are from smart Black Women who realize more than water recycles in life, so does your deeds! Oh, I guess you would know that since you were quick to quote God’s word the Bible, but it appears you are some what of a hypocrite, using it to fit your point, bcuz you failed to keep reading the book of Matthew 22:21 “pay back cesar’s things to cesar but God’s things to God”.
@Sherri your last statement is ever so true!

This dialogue is ever so needed! However hopefully while we continue to share our thoughts, we will support the family of the innocent young Black Boy Trayvon Martin who was murdered by a racist, while racist Law Enforcement tries to cover it up in Florida. This is in my small opinion is a better way to use our brilliant minds and resources. If we Black women are so angry and unforgiving we would not support causes affecting Black Men, yet we’re the first ones there supporting and the last staying loyal and committed!

@Richard, by the way I forgot to mention I work on high risk and previously incarcerated especially BLACK MEN’s issues, changing policies thru SB18 legislation, and design programs and projects to help them and their families become self reliant and sustainable. Many times it was only black women (no bm) with other races in the trenches and on the frontline demanding these changes. Is that knowledge enough for you?

I totally agree, Knowledge is power, but without action it’s wasted!

It is so sad to read all of the negativity among the people. People tend to get caught up in what is being sold to them when it comes to paying taxes. If it sounds to good to be true don’t fall for it. Regardless of what you believe with regards to paying your taxes is your belief, however, someone like Mr. Snipes got caught
because he is in the limelight and was given bad advice. People in the limelight is easier to catch, those not in the limelight takes a longer time to catch, because the goal of the IRS is to make an example of people. What better way to get the message across other than catching those actors/actresses who some of you idolize. Whether or not you believe you should pay taxes is your opinion which you are entitled to. However I am go to write the brother anyway. P.S. Support one another and stop being so critical of people and most of all, watch what you say. Retired IRS say.

Wesley Snipes comments were printed in the Ebony. As far as I know Ebony would not print false information and if they do they usually print a retraction. Ebony did a big article about Black intertainers dating within their race and Wesley degraded Black women pretty badly. There are many folks who hate their own and don’t care if their family knows this so why should Wesley care how his love ones feel? You can forgive ignorance but you have a hard time forgetting. Like O.J., Tiger, and so many others of color who publically demean their own…… go to those you love and respect for your support!!

Thank you Cheche, I appreciated it! You, Sherri C, Lisa, Nellis, Nollete, Furgan, Cindie, Renelda, Delle, have renewed my belief that that some of us black folks do get and all ain’t lost…Not only did Snipes give an Ebony interview that had no retractions or admissions of errors after he did it, he did a live interview as well so there is no mistake about his position on Black Women, it came from Snipes own very black mouth. So, Neilden before you accuse us of slander, I suggest you look up the word before giving suggestions…..and just for the record I too was a Snipes fan before reading, seeing and hearing him outright disrespect us! After that I made more informed choices of movies to spend my money on and which actors to support. Nothing about our position is being critical, it’s called being smart….there’s no need to watch what one says when one is speaking the truth. There’s no anger, resentment etc., here and neither is there a desperation or care to be accepted by those like Snipes who don’t value themselves. For women who accept such mistreatment that’s ur choice, not mine!

Hey Mr. Spike!! How about reaching out to your Pro Baskeball friends and other high profile Athletes or tourist to take a stand and Boycott any and all games to be played anywhere in Florida until they arrest the admitted murderer of young Trayon Martin?!!!

If we using that logic that why don’t you listen when the white man say all black men of criminal. Black women are always in black men corner. Wesley Snipes got himself in this position. He should pay his taxes. As for forgiving and forgetting, that’s not going to happen. What about an apology, black women didn’t get that. Only thing he tried to do once he realized what he was to try to clean it up. To late. I still have the Ebony with that article.

Well Nielden, again if you took ur own advice and listened, or should I say read carefully what I first wrote, you would have known I revealed who I was from the very beginning, no need to hide….And, I didn’t drag anyone into anything I just gave props where was due and pointed out where it wasn’t….Ur comments show I must have hit a nerve or 10 with you…..we both obviously have alot to say, but I think yours comes across more as “riotous rabble”? Lol, it ain’t sexy Nielden…..Also my sis Cheche holds her own (and the others) and I’m sure don’t need me to speak for her but u so off the mark when it comes to Black Women and our feelings for Black Men that I responded bcuz I wanted to…I noticed u didn’t address the points made bcuz u couldn’t, so u went into attack mode like those with ur mindset do, try and blame us for ur shortcomings….it ain’t sexy Neilden come with some facts, then maybe I take u serious

Neilden, it’s alright for Ms. z to name me in her comments because I support her…and I have an issue with you naming her as having issues. You do not know her personally, and that is an attack upon her although dissimilar to Snipes, it resembles the same disrespect. It appears that you may have relationship issues with your sistahs and they should be addressed. So I should speak against the white man but not a man who looks like me who talks against me and disrespects me? Well I will clue you in about me (not that you are entitled). I am not a racist but I know the truth and I speak out against the white man and the white woman, and whoever else is out of order (even the sistahs and brothahs who look like me)…in love and truth. I don’t hate any race, but I know our history, past and present racism from the white man (and his woman)…and now we have our man..the one we birthed, nurtured and raised up to be a man speaking against us? I ain’t writing Wesley Snipes because it would be hypocritical and that before he is and physically free, he becomes spiritually free…and then he will be free indeed…and that’s the Word.

Hello Ms Z and Ms Sherrie, I must apologize for falling off our communication for that short time.. I was caught up with the murder of Trayvon Martin.. may God rest his soul. I’m not using this as an excuse for not responding to yous promptly, becouse yous are important to me as well.. even thou your ideas are counter productive and boarder line irrational at times..never the less, I care about how you feel and your state of mind.. I don’t have the leisure of throwing my opinion at yous and just walk away, giveing up on you.. Yous might find it easy to give up on a black man but I can not.. as I said befor “I need a sista” problems and all. I believe that some how, someday, we will heal each other; if we just stay together?? I say “stay together” as if its easy for us when actually, this is the hardest part of journey.. Unity sounds like proper gander to our ears but proper-gated by who?? why is it that black people won’t stay together on one issue?? I mean, look at you two? your teaming up against me like I am the one who made you scrub floors day and night to send your kids to school; did I build the prison for your sons? did I make the law turn its back when ever a black woman was raped by a white man? did I do any of these things to you,.. but yet you have the audacity to stand against me.. how can yous justify approaching a Black Man in this way? I know both of you can do better than this? and I will answer each of your discontentment’s in a separate blog..

Damn Neilden….why can’t they have an OPINION? They are stating their OPINIONS. What’s wrong with that? Do you want people calling your OPINION “border line irrational”? That is the very thing they are speaking of….”brothas” like you dismissing their point of view.

Neilden, Ms. Z and I replied to each of your comments and addressed them head on. The comments you have made hereinafter has no substance because you expressed in the front how you felt about this and Ms. Z along with other black women were stereotyped. The white man…blah blah was never the issue…The topic was Lee visiting Snipes and asking the fans to reach out. Treat then retreat….that’s what they call the game you are playing now. As they say in legal terminology, this issue is now moot.

Hi Ms Sherrie C, I’m not quiet clear on why you need to stay in attack mood? Your clearly a one track mind kinda person.. I hate to say this but Sister,.. you didn’t hear anything I said about needing black females in my life? careing for you all; not willing to turn my back on you guys? girl its this kinda attitude that drive black men away from you all? can you possibly come down off you high horse long enough to smell yourself.. you don’t have to be so nasty.. did I not apologize first of all.. so where is your show of good faith?.. you know I don’t believe you are a black woman at all.. no real man loveing black woman would respond to male kindness like this.. If your trying not to be attractive to MEN then this monkey you got on your back will certainly keep the men away.. so what is this going to be,.. we going to get pass this or are you to bitter for kissing and makeing up?

There is nothing wrong with not being sure; feelings are often misplaced. but the greater question could be “why are you angry over a black man not wanting you? this is not easy to say but this is the real problem.. i don’t like seeing Sisters with white guys but I don’t let it bother me so much.. Nielden, I am a happily married black woman. I do not have anger issues with black men…I interact with black men on a frequent basis in my community, etc., and I do not have an issue with you or anger towards you (energy wasted). My father and brothers are black…I have addressed every sentiment you have made very carefully. Let this issue die a natural death.

@Sherri, seeing the numbers coming out and doing our part for what is right is what forced the President and Justice to finally do something, so inspiring….It’s ironic that u mention dreaming of how this innocent child was murdered bcuz I too can’t stop wondering if this child was actually shot in the chest or was he shot in the back tryin to get away? We know the Police there is so corrupt, It wouldn’t be surprise if the Coroner is too. Do u know if it’s been actually confirmed in the chest? The 2 women stated immediately upon hearing the shot they came out, and said Trayvon was layin face down in the grass with Zimmerman stradling over him. No mentioned by them of cuts or bruises on Zimmerman….he also just tell them to call the police he doesn’t say he’s just been attacked, which he would have if he was as he lied and said was the one cryin for help, not Trayvon.

God reveals the Angels singing as well as the demons muttering!! That’s why we could hear that racist demon mutter Fn Coon under his breath before killin that young man. When I first heard the 911 tape, I heard it but thought I was overreacting bcuz I was so mad hearin this demon period! I asked others some said yes, others said no until it was enhanced……There’s more than enough evidence of their level of racist hate for Blacks, and their level of corruptness so we know we can’t trust anything from them….they get more ridiculous tryn to make us think we’re stupid by saying he said fn cold or fn cones but there were no cones so they’re tryn to stick with cold…..God has blantantly revealed the truth for the world to see, just don’t trust corrupt system to do whats right unless we Collectively Demand Justice….April 10 is too long for Justice….

We should exercise caution while criticising Wesley so that we dont end up bcomin racists to the Asian girls. Sheriff, Asian’s think that using Oriental to define them is derogatory due to its connection to imperial 19th century Europeans and Americans who are thought to have held a patronizing attitude towards the region. African’s throughout the diaspora love everyone more than they love and respect themselves. That love and respect is not reciprocated. Wesley Snipes said that he would never “go back” to a black woman. He was abusive to black women and he has said and written many negative things about black women. On the other hand, I respect and support Spike Lee. He is a conscious, positive brother who can perhaps help Snipes in many ways. I will not support someone like Snipes that has disdain for those that look like him, who birthed and mothered him. Since he has a preference for Whites and Asian’s perhaps they will visit and support him while he’s incarcerated and has lost all his money – Not!!!!!

Snipes reminds me of Oj Simpson, many Black folk stood behind him when he was on trial and afterwards, but the fool still dissed us by snubbing us and dating the enemy all over, agin. Now his sorry ass back in prison because they were going to eventually get him if he just spit on the sidewalk, but he goes and do something stupid and they get his ass. Snipes has no use for us so I will not entertain him by writing him only for him to get out and show disdain for us again sorry you in the pookie wes, but you made the money and you know your best freinds, meaning “whitey” was going to snatch your azz one day after they let it get to so many millions. Though I have never dated an Asian woman, I had have business dealings with them. And they do carry themselves in a more respective, intelligent manner than most Black women I had done business with. Maybe it’s a cultural thing. Two of my co-workers married Filipina women after having been married to Black American women, and they both have stated, “that they would never go back!”. Let’ s be frank here people. Black on Black relationships in America are in trouble…..Even my son is involved with and has a beautiful child with an Asian lady.

I think what is really dubious about the tax illusion when it comes to blacks, is not so much that they are intending to defraud the government; rather, the counsel they inadvertently obtain is fully aware that when they scheme and con artist’s out of their earnings for personal gain, blacks are left holding the bag.
I can give you two examples of incidents which have happened in my life which have not only robbed me of income, but also set me up to where the IRS might attempt to collect money from me, which should not be taxed.
In 1975 I worked for the Colonial Penn Insurance Company in Philadelphia, PA, as a cashiering clerk. I introduced the idea of having insureds prepay for their burial plots, by increasing the amount of their monthly premium. While I retained a lawyer ( Mary Belle Hammerman ), it did nothing to prevent me from getting fired trying to protect my idea. What ensued was, the president of Colonial Penn ( Grubb ), the president of the White Chapel Cemetery in Feasterville, PA, and my attorney got together and took the idea, grossing 25 million that summer, and I was fired from the company for not accepting a phone call on 3rd shift ( the time at which I worked ) from an alleged supervisor on 1st shift.

In 2010, after being injured on duty, I had to obtain a lawyer to fight for Workman’s Compensation. A settlement was reached, and the court order mandated that the insurance company pay me in a lump sum. The attorney’s got together, drafted a letter of resignation in my name for me to sign, and withheld half of the payment, until I signed the letter. The opposing attorney sent me a 1099 tax statement for the portion they retained. The problem with that is, the settlement amount should not have been subject to tax. So, who will protect you from the attorney and judge, when they violate a court order?

Wesley Snipes is in jail. Wesley Snipes is in jail for not paying his taxes. That is the sum total of this story. Does he deserve to be, my answer would be NO. Not for the reason that would seem obvious to some but simply due to the fact that income tax penalty isn’t something that every American has to adhere to. There are many people living in America that refuse to pay their tax and yet, no one seems to have enough outrage about it to find an opportunity to express disgust towards their practices. I’ll explain. How many over paid CEO’s in this country don’t pay taxes, how many corporation owners simply refuse to pay their share of taxes due to the learned knowledge of simply hiding their incomes, while collecting salaries most of us will never realiize. Many millionaires have become that way simply due to their refusal (technique) of guarding or simple finding a so-called loop hole that affords them the outcome of not paying taxes. Therefore my question is why has Wesley Snipes been incarcerated for committing a crime that is as prevalent in this country as any other. Yes, I could use the issue of his skin tone or the fact that possibly he was viewed as self entitled or just plain stupid. The fact remains, he didn’t pay them due to possiblle reasons beyond what we choose to accept. My concern is that while Wesley sits in jail, many others walk free of the concern and what it will cost those who actually benefit from the tax $’s that supposedly support many worthy causes (seniors, etc.). The double standard of this system is just that. No CEO has gone to jail for this very same matter, and yet he has. Finding a loophole is just as offensive and should be treated with just as much injustice as someone who literally tell the government to “go to hell” when it comes to facing up to their responsibilities and yet some walk free. Wesley has, is and will do his time accept his punishment and move on. My concern is to those who don’t even have to worry about it after committing the exact same crime. I find it reprehensible that so many of the bloggers on this post find it necessary to refer to his lack of disrespect towards black women, as some sort of karmic justice for his previous actions. This arguement has to stop. At one time Wesley may have or had disrespected many black women or black women in general. But hey come on sistas. Respect comes where it should. Representation of black women has been flagrent and yes that is not an excuse for Wesley or any other man to disregard women or any culture for any reason. The sista’s problem iis that everything ( real or imagined) is seen as a put down towards them. A look..attitude of indiference or disapproval, is untolerable, when the statement or activity comes from a black man. That is simply not the case. The disrespect of black women traditionally has been prevalent through time. It’s obvious, not only in our historical reference. but in the way society as a whole treats and regards our very existence.everyday and openly. Not that other culture hide it or ever will, but let’s get real. Sista’s live with it everyday. More importantly is how we feel about oursellves, by identifying towards what Wesley may have said or felt regarding black women. If we believe or feel that Wesley or any other man knows us…..or enough about who we truly are and then determines he will disrespect us for whatever reason he chooses, it shouldn’t hurt, offend or disrespect until or unless we feel that way about ourselves. Regardless of that it’s just his opinion……who cares.
