Russian Fans Throw Banana at Black Soccer Player
We’ve been through this before. When Venus and Serena Williams first emerged onto the international state, white tennis fans were notorious for
shouting racist insults at them. Obviously, the reaction of some white fans to black international sports stars hasn’t changed.
A Russian soccer fan threw a banana at Chris Samba after his team, Anzhi Makhachkal, lost to another team in Moscow on Sunday. To Samba’s credit, he tossed the banana back into the crowd. The Congolese born soccer player called the banana incident “an act of a stupid person.”
But this isn’t the first time Samba has had a banana thrown at him. It happened twice last year, and will probably happen again since there is a strong Neo-n**i faction in Russia.
The soccer club has called on Russian security to locate and punish the person responsible for throwing the banana.
